I think the first mistake Bethesda did in Fallout 4, was making the game revolve around the Shaun's Parent.

This locks the character into a certain role, and it really doesn't allow for deviation(like in Fallout 3). The voice-acting makes it even worse.

I much preferred how in New Vegas, the Courier was a cipher for the player to explore the world, and roleplay with.
