The problem with that is that there's no real direction. The biggest driver for the story was some random comment on one of the first few threads that got a ton of support. And after we potentially impregnate Hope, that main focus will be gone.

The other long term goal proffered is Joyride's sexual potion but, and I can't speak for anyone else, I'm not terribly invested in it. It's a nice thing to do for Joyride, but it's not really story driving material.

Any long-term goal, for me, will probably be nailed in the ass by the story at this point because Emerald can't do anything on his own. He has no value in his person, except as the child of the Jewel family. Wherever he runs he's going to be reliant on others' generosity to help him. So my current goal is to build up some sort of skill so that if worse comes to worse, he can go somewhere and find a place to sell his skill. Get an apprenticeship or something. So it's harder to plan long term since it'll take a little while for him to build up his skills and by that time the environment will have completely shifted.

Pretty much everyone who is above a certain age who has experience with debating is aware of this tactic. I'm certainly aware, and while it might work for some, I think it is passive-aggressive and disingenuous. I think it's obvious when someone is trying to subtly change opinions of others, using words like "we" and not "I", "us" and not "me", and when disagreeing, using the term "you" to label a singular person who is vocal about having the opposing point (which is obviously not true), and labeling the topic unpopular. Emerald decides he wants to go see Hope first.

Emerald decides he wants to go see Hope first... In the other outfit he bought. He quickly changes and then Joyride leads him to her apartment. It's much deeper in the city and in an even nicer neighborhood than Joyride's. While Coursewalk was clean this place is exquisite. To Emerald's eyes, everyone is dressed up to go to a party already, with many of the stallions wearing top hats and nice vests, while the mares sport long, frilly dresses much like the one he was wearing just a little while ago. There isn't a building or edifice that doesn't have some piece of master crafted stonework, and the grass and trees are both vibrant green and obviously trimmed and well cared for.

Joyride points up at a door and Emerald walks up a small set of stairs and knocks.

A donkey wearing a maid uniform answers. She has a feather duster in her mouth, and upon seeing Emerald removes it and asks, "Can I help you?"

Emerald asks if Hope is home.

"I'm afraid Mistress has returned to her family residence to get ready for a party she is attending later. Would you like to leave her a message?" The maid asks nicely.

Emerald and Joyride return to #304 Coursewalk and Joyride pulls out a long, pointed key and puts it in the lock. When the door opens all Emerald can see are various cabinets haphazardly stacked and stuffed into every corner of the room. Joyride walks in and immediately walks to an old chest of drawers near the back and pulls out a potion, and then turns slightly and opens a chest on the ground and retrieves another. He pushes them into Emerald's hooves and tells him to drink.

He complies, and the effects are instant. His mane and fur turn a deep and light blue respectively, and mane hair sprouts from his head so suddenly it pops his hat off.

"Okay, that should do for your 'disguise'. The mane dye should last about a day, but the length is permanent. We still have some time before we have to start getting ready for the party. Anything you wanted to do? I was thinking of just being lazy myself. Maybe make a sandwich and read a raunchy novel." Joyride says, suddenly burping.

Emerlad scoops up his hat and then asks Joyride when she is going to get ready for the party, and asks if he can help. Maybe he can get some revenge.

Emerald's mind wanders to what Hope might look like dressed up, and suddenly has the urge to get her a present. Emerald asks Joyride what a good present for Hope would be.

Just put some thought into whatever you want to give her and I'm sure she'll like it." Emerald decides to go looking for some enchantment or easy potion he could give to Hope to show her how much he has learned a about magic.

He goes to the library and scours the easier alchemy or enchantment books. Just from a cursory scanning of enchantments though he can tell that it will be no good. They require a lot of time, preparation, and skill to do.

He instead focuses on an easy potion, and finds one that might fit the bill. It's a "mini-starlight" potion. All it needs is powdered metal, glowing fungus, and honey.

He needs to hit an apothecary for that stuff. but maybe he could keep looking for a different kind of potion.

What does Emerald do?

That starlight potion could work. Especially if the poem we include with it includes a line about how she "lights up our life".

Emerald packs up his things and starts to walk towards the apothecary. He opens the door with confidence and strides outside.

The colt feels much safer walking around with his new disguise. And whether it's because it's working or not, he does feel that there are a lot less eyes on him. Emerald returns to the fountain once again asks a street vendor where the nearest apothecary is. He is pointed down a street and comes across a shop named "Antimony's Apothecary" and enters.

The smell hits him immediately, even before the shopkeeps vibrant greeting. It's not an unpleasant smell, but it's one so full that it overloads the senses. While it isn't anything compared to Joyride's alchemy room he must admit it's probably just as cluttered. Bags and jars full of reagents line the shelves all the way to the ceiling and in some cases to the barrels on the floor.

A robed, bespectacled shopkeeper sits smiling at the counter, and Emerald approaches, asking for powdered metal, glowing fungus, and honey.

"Ah, a mini-starlight potion huh?" The shopkeeper says happily, scooping and weighing out ingredients, "That's certainly a fun potion! What's this for, a school project? Perhaps a Magical science fair?"

Worried, Emerald heads back to #304 Coursewalk and heads into the studio. He takes all the ingredients out, and finding a large pot begins the process of making the potion.

Following the instructions in the book, he powders the glowing fungus and heats it with a small amount of water and the honey. When it congeals into a soft lump he adds the powdered metal and... Oh!

Emerald grimaces... He forgot he needs a magically infused stirring rod like the one Joyride had in her alchemy room to complete the process. He bites his lip. Where is he going to get something like that?

Emerald decides he needs to head back to the shop, or perhaps Joyride to borrow one. However as he thinks this the potion starts to smoke heavily sputter, and in his panic Emerald sticks the only magical thing he has on him, his amulet, into the potion and stirs.

After a moment a soft glow starts to emit from the mixture, and removing his amulet from it the colt looks down and sees something that looks like the night sky.

He did it... Somehow! Well, Emerald is too thankful at the moment to think about it much.

Instead, Emerald finds some containers in the kitchen, and after filling a small vial and stoppering it he pours the rest of the glittering starlight into a big glass jug and screws the top on.

Emerald decides to go back to the apothecary and ask about getting stirring rods, and ask about the ramifications of using his amulet as one.

As he enters he sees the shopkeeper smile at him and say, "Oh! Back already? Did you need more ingredients or perhaps change your mind about the newsletter?"

Emerald asks how much stirring rods are for alchemy potions.

"Ah, well the rods are quite cheap, but the infusion can be quite costly depending on what you want to use. Dragon blood lasts the longest but is the most expensive, down to magic slime puree, which will last you a few potions at most. We even got rodbugs, but they are single use."

They discuss prices, and it turns out even a single stickbug is quite expensive at 15 bits. Maybe Emerald can just borrow Joyride's whenever he needs one...

Moving on, Emerald asks if there is any detrimental effects to using a magic item as a potion stirrer, since that's what he did for his potion.

The shopkeeper raises an eyebrow and then says, "Perhaps, let's see the amulet."

Emerald takes it out and shows it to the shopkeep. She pulls it up to her eyes and stares at it for a second.

"Hmm... It does seem a bit tarnished. One sec, let me grab something to help you with that."

The shopkeeper then disappears through the door into the backroom. Emerald taps his hooves, waiting, and begins to look around the store. Minutes pass, and she still hasn't come back.
