Most of the reason I storytime these is because I know there's no chance most of /mlp/ would consider buying the comics without knowing what's inside of them first. Even more so with how sub par they've been lately. It's sad to me that they haven't been good enough to be worth it lately.

From an American, this is just bastardly dumb, and we're the ones advertising this shit. All the more, I can't seem to understand why they didn't bother giving a better explanation as to how she got free, instead of asspull "friendship will set you free." I understand it's in the title, but I would expect something like this from a "I'm learning" children's book.

The only thing that saved this comic was the actual presence of nightmare fuel.

Hope becomes ever so slightly more understandable in her total botch of any sane reasoning as to handle this situation. She's got Stolkholm's bad and has probably been brainwashed over a thousand years, and without any love magic of her own she'd never know they weren't evil.

Oh but you'll honestly go hand in holed-hoof with one who does that every other arc. What the fuck was his reasoning when he was stealing the heart? Hell what was ANY of their reasoning, joining up with a war criminal like Chyrsalis, completely ignoring Sombra, STILL does not make any sense. The entire cast of villains could have been removed and nothing would have been lost other than the chance to not drive their characterization into the ground.

Cadance being especially tolerant of Hope was also kind of cringeworthy. She's been completely uncompromising in her theft of the heart, assault on her family and friends, terrorizing her entire kingdom, freeing the worst known slaver their kind had experienced, and allowed him to stone her fellow princesses. She is beyond sympathy at this point, and princess of love or no, it's headache inducing to not chew Hope out for all the shit's she's pulled.

6.5-7/10 not bad but needs more work.

The art was one of the better parts of the issue even if most of them were overly detailed. It didn't however do a lot in terms of showing emotion besides neutral calmness and panic with Radiant Hope, which would've benefited greatly. The Umbra was a nice touch as well.

Apart from that, the other four "villains" still feels off, like you know they're going to help out the team but them being in it still feels off. The dialogue between Chrysalis and Sombra was a nice touch too. Pacing's alright and Everything seems to be going better than I expected, and I came in with very low expectations.

Hope is fine, some tweaking to make her easier to understand motivations aside 'MUH SOMBRA' or relate at the least.

Take out the villains. They were a gimmick to introduce the arc and nothing more. Instead hell just have it so Hope tricks the main characters into helping her bring Sombra back. Lie to them about helping her 'friend' and the twist is Sombra's horn being the catalyst for his resurrection.

I mean, Twilight and co are gullible enough to do it so why not just go there? The overwhelming need to help others used against them.

They were manipulated into thinking they were just going after the main 6. They had no idea about Hope's real intentions.

Iron Will was hesitant there for a minute, but then all that was dropped and completely forgotten about. Also if his micro was canon why is he going after the main 6 again? I thought they were on good terms. Hell even in his episode he wasn't truly a villain, just an antagonist.

I was honestly hoping that with the main 6 captured, they were going to end up trying to stop Sombra from freeing the Umbrum. But instead we got an ass pull.

I actually really liked the comic this time. It's definitely the best part of the three and it has got me excited to see how the story will end up while the other two didn't.

You know, I actually feel like this could've been a passable story idea if the limited page number format didn't condense the story into what it actually is. If they had cut the contrived "villain team-up" bullshit out of it (or just use better villains), improved on the dialogue, and fixed all those minor plot holes that have been sprinkled all over the place, the conflict between Sombra and the Umbrum could've carried this whole arc by itself. They could've even used the extra space they wasted on filler to make Hope into a less gullible retard, by fleshing out how the Umbrum managed to spend centuries deceiving her, why she still cared about Sombra, what his own opinions are on this ordeal, etc. Edgy memes aside, he's the only interesting character in this shitfest.

A few contradictions to the show, but that's fine, we've known the comics aren't set in the same universe for a long time now.

I liked the dialogue between Chrysalis and Sombra, I'm OK with her motive, aside maybe from her hateboner for Twilight. I really have a hard time believing someone so rational as her would hold a meaningless grudge like that. In her own words, she cares nothing for the rest of Equestria, why is Twilight so special? Why was that part even there? It doesn't matter which side of the cage Twilight is on when they unleash the friendship. Also, why didn't Chrysalis turn on Sombra when he betrayed her and she knew he was weak? That way she'd have all of Equestria to herself.

For that matter, the friendship part was completely glossed over and very anticlimactic, and in a way against everything the show teaches us. In the show, they work together and believe in each other, here they only need to believe in Princess Perfect and she'll do it all by herself from there.

The other "villains" still aren't very well developed in the story. What the fuck did you think was going to happen, Iron Will?

Radiant Hope continues to be a fucking tool. 1000 years among the umbrum and she never suspected a thing? Really? And why on earth did she agree to let Chrysalis run rampant across Equestria? Was it for "love" like in Reflections? She's willing to sacrifice a world or two as long as she can be with Sombra?

Where is Cadance's barrier?

I just feel there are some dedicated shitposters acting like a "crowd of haters' because they have a hateboner for Whitley. The story itself wasn't that bad and Radiant Hope was justified since she literally spend hundred of years with the Umbrum. After that time you would treat them as your family more than Crystal ponies..

The smaller villains were the weakest part in the comic, but at least they managed to actually see how dumb their choice was. Chrysalis was realistic. She joined to conquer Equestria, and she left when her allies wanted to nuke everything. There is no redemption in her deed, is just caring for herself.

Yet not a single negative comment adressed any major issue beyond generic "le shit" and "le moe face XD". We had comments about Hope being an idiot which was intended to see her like that by the writer (even Chrysalis called her dumb) and we had comments about pointless villains. Yet somehow no one can give any detailed rant like they love to write about Reflections. Perhaps because you just want to hate it?
