What an awful fucking ending.
This fucking writing forces us to always see Twilight as a protagonist and mane 6 as something so tight together no one can be left apart. But guess what!
Discord was right all the time. She learnt something, she had to learn it, that's the thing. She acted like a total top cunt all episode, and in the end what happens? Suddenly everyone forgets about it, and discord is the bad guy. What in the fuck? He was trying to teach her something valueable, and in the end we don't even know if she accepted it or not? why? because it didnt matter. The wole episode didn't happen, and they're laughing about it and ostracizing Discord. It had potential, if only they had let Twilight understand the lesson and move on. NO she didn't move on because she didn't have to. They just make Discord look like a fool so she doesn't have to feel bad anymore.

A couple nice moments like bob rosscord and seeing Zecora again but really lousy ep full of Spike-at-the-olympics-tier cringy forced humor -- even if that was supposed to be the point. Probably have to watch it again but yeah you might be right, a lot of the things just didn't really seem to work. I know it's a kids show and all but Orange you glad is hardly original or very funny. It might've been the point but it doesn't resonate well with the audience if they don't find it humorous either, so half the episode was just that and then the other half I honestly think was better

This is probably one of the most confusing episodes that I have to rate midway.

Discord's development and end game motive, as well as Twilight's denial were the better parts of the episode. Most of what the final scenes had made up for the episode's boring stretch. I probably snorted at only three of the jokes in the episode. Overall the 18 minutes of it was very weak, and I guess that's a mediocre way of handling the whole of it. In a way, I guess it was also kind of an explanation of memes or something.
Good plot, bad mid execution.
On the minor plus side, Zecora and Spike were one of the few better parts as well.
On the minor negative side, the laughter from the ponies and Discord was pretty annoying throughout.

This should have been the real Halloween episode since Discord's psychoanalysis of Twilight got really creepy. It got up to Silent Hill levels of creepy passive aggressiveness.

This one's hard to rate because for the first third, the episode works to put us in Twilight's spot of having no idea what the hell it is that's so funny. It achieves that goal: the audience wants to know what happened because we're curious shits and Twilight wants to know what happened because she refuses to accept a flaw in the context of being the ~Princess of Friendship~. But it's awkward, so it feels weird.
The second third recalls Feeling Pinkie Keen but at a more measured pace, so despite Twilight being an adorkable sperglord high on her own shit, it drags a little. The focus isn't on her, it's on the others reconstructing the weekend. Here the show has to make a choice: either (1) construct something that is very obviously funny to grip the audience but prematurely end the conflict without some lesson learned or (2) construct something that is still bewildering to both Twilight and the audience to preserve the third act. The show takes the second course, but the consequence is we're all sitting here going "uh..." The writer tries to salve this with Discord's referential humor: Bob Ross, Back to the Future.
The third act and the resolution was fantastic. The lesson was plucked straight out of Season One. The characters were able to grief Twilight for her error without going too far and forgave her when she finally cracked. The turntable was nice.
This was a really hard premise to write well and all things considered, I think the Testfag did a competent job of it.

That was fun and also very well done. And that's part of the episode- we're supposed to see things from Twilight's point of view. We don't ever get the inside joke. If we did, Twilight could have too and the entire lesson of the episode is lost. The funny is in watching Twilight slowly snap, and it's a dirty-feeling funny that puts you basically in Discord's shoes at the end of the episode: "I TAUGHT TWILIGHT MWAHAHAHA!"
Of course, Twilight gets it in the end and turns it around with everyone else on Discord so he gets punished for being a dick.
6/10 episode because frankly, it's tough to make an episode with that kind of feel entertaining when it helps you mirror Twilight's frustration the entire time. But it did what it came to do.

Discord clearly understands what it feels like to be excluded. He did not need it in rubbed in his face again. Every one of his episodes since his redemption deals with him feeling like he isnt getting enough attention. WHY THE FUCK would they need to create that feeling again at the very end. Spike's voice can be heard at the bakery at this frame even though he's not seen.
I like to think that Spike has fun on his own--with comics or books--or with other guys he knows--perhaps Snips and Snails since they seemed to know each other in Boast Busters and Big Mac since the S5 premiere began with him saying they were going to talk about hoofball.
He's a guy so he won't enjoy all the girly stuff the others do, but he's been invited to some events like observing comets with the others in Owl's Well That Ends Well.
We also know from the Gala episode with Donut Joe and from the series premiere that Spike hung out with and knew ponies that Twilight didn't have a strong bond with.
Either way this was a great episode for Spike because his characterization from S1 really pulled through here, being a sarcastic voice of reason and balancing Twilight's neurotic nature.

I fucking loved it. Maybe it's because I love noodle incidents so much, but I found it very enjoyable. Twilight was up to her old autism, which, granted, was something she should have been over in some degree. In his usual "evil" ways Discord used force to teach Twilight something, but got a taste of his own medicine right after and nothing of value was lost, only gained. Solid 8/10 if you ask me. Also props great timing on the Back To The Future and Bob Ross references.

Also, just to make the point, I really think this episode could have had a better resolution if Twilight realized she had a good time with Spike too and that friends don't all have to share the same experiences but can make new ones together.
The worst part of the episode was the resolution frankly. Next would be how amiable the rest of the ponies were to Discord that it became almost cloyingly chummy, but I guess we were seeing the episode from Twilight's perspective and wanted to relate to and feel her angst about it.

Honestly, the problem I had with this episode was how over-exaggerated their laughter was. If it was basic chuckling and palling around, I could understand, but they were in hysterics at the slightest mention of Discord's antics. I'm not buying this "you had to be there" bullshit, because it was excessive at the end too when I WAS there to see what the fuss was about. It was chuckle-worthy, not laughing so hard that everything else in the world is drowned out.
I just wish they reacted more reasonably like they tend to in other show writers' depictions. The story was fine if it was executed in a less over-the-top... "too much" fashion. Reminds me of other kids shows where everything is so drawn out and loud and annoying to bash it into kids' skulls that it was funny, see, HA HA, you're supposed to understand that it's funny! Do you get it yet!!

Discord was a dick who might have actually been trying to help Twilight, but came across as such a dick that he reminds me of season 4 Discord.

Twilight is still obsessed with books and organization. I get that it's part of her character, but is she still really so obsessed after all she's gone through that she still gets ecstatic about organizing books for 3 solid days?
I appreciate the lesson that you're allowed to feel feelings regardless of how mature you're supposed to be, but the episode was mostly a flop for me.
