In that event I'd suggest the following:

If the owner of the Golden Super Toots account is inactive for 3 months and they've ignored at least 5 email reminders then a tournament is held to determine the new owner of the Toot. I'd call it The GST Tournament

Contenders would compete in a standard best of 3 match with winners moving onto the next round (as mant people live in different timezones this might be hard to co-ordinate). If a shittonne of people apply we could run several sub-tournaments with the finalists of each competing in a playoff culminating in the Championship Match (which would be best of 5). The winner is then awarded the Golden Super Toot at a ceremony by TFHdevs in game (should also stream this) and there is a Roman style 1 week long orgy/party held in the lobbly.

However regarding the original owner of the toot; since the guy raised like $8000 fucking dollars there should be a clause that allows him to reclaim at any time, then maybe TFHdevs could craft a Championship Belt for the current champion.

Hey I like the idea of having some sort of "ingame championship", where there's a belt going around, based on fixed tourney schedules. It sounds like a fun addition to normal leaderboard rankings. If they actually pulled through and managed to get dedicated servers running, and then you'd have servers where the "champions" hang around for people to challenge and fawn over... community fostering on a whole new level. Would probably be real hard to set up and maintain but it sounds like a fun little thing. On your profile it'd read that you're the current champion, maybe you can get an actual belt as a lobby accessory for the time to show off... if there's one thing I would add it's you definitely need one champion per continent though. EU people playing Americans is either uncomfortably laggy or does not work at all so having seperate EU and NA champions would make much more sense.

All that having been said - decouple it from those toots. They're a super special one time thing and should stay that way, and if someone feels like abandoning their grand price that's their choice I guess. I mean that's just how it is, if you make something special and bound to only one single account for eternity, it's gonna die out in due time. No matter what you do. Same holds true for all the "non-special" toots and party hats and OOAK accessories and stuff, all of that's gonna be less and less and less common overtime. And that's good and okay cause that's what makes them special, if these things were obligated to switch accounts overtime that would just make them lame.

And at the same time that's what would give a proposed "championship" like that all the more weight. Cause whoever is currently a champion, they are people who are actually active at the point in time, who actually defeated other active players, and they are not guaranteed their success for eternity but only for as long as they keep sticking to it and fighting for it. That's a whole new level of prestige.

I tried to ask one of the devs about automated online tournaments a bunch of times, but I guess my question got lost.

Something like Warcraft 3 and Starcraft 2 do - have a weekly tournament at fixed times that people can sign up for in advance, and when it starts, they compete against a number of other players within their skillrange.

The tournament mode could change every week or depend on the amount of players that signed up, but Round Robin and Single/Double elimination (or both combined) would probably work best, seeing how you can do those with as few as 8 players, but also with 32 or more. Naturally, there could also be "global" tournaments that ignore the skill range and everyone can fight everyone, but I imagine it's more fun for average players to actually have a chance of winning.

As for the price - the normal tournaments could either grant the winner (and to a lesser extent people who make it far) things like a lot of additional rating points or little lobby accessories, while the global ones decide the new owner of the Super Toot, a champion bell theb elt or something, but you can get crazy with ideas regarding the rewards.

In general I've always preferred the automated tournaments over the ones organized by other players because you have to wait for opponents way longer, have to contact admins, manage your account on their site, etc.

I don't know, a tournament once every 3 months that's not automated sounds more enticing to me than weekly automated ones. If there actually was a global champion title to be upheld, and if that champion was determined not by some bot but actually by a judge who can make sure the brackets are actually filled with real people, could rule out people with terrible connection / make people rematch if the connection just fluked or whatever, that makes the tournament way more meaningful. Winning it or even only doing okay in a tournament like that would mean that much more than if it was just an automated weekly thing.

Like you would also have way more people competing if it was a rare special occasion. You couldn't really do skill matching like that but I mean what worth is there in a tournament where just a couple of people compete who are just as good as you. What kind of "tournament" is that. Where capable people are kept away from you so you can pretend to do really good. But if there was one huge global tourney (or at least continentals) then even just doing okay would feel like a big achievement, like if you just won some rounds - and losing wouldn't feel terrible. Cause you know you're thrown in one pot with the big dogs either way. That's what a tournament is really, some people win and some people lose and the thing that makes either outcome meaningful is to look at how strong your competitiors are in comparison to you. If I'm matched with people on my skill level then winning doesn't mean shit and losing feels terrible... if there's one guy I don't want to play in a tournament it's the guy who's exactly as strong as I am. One of the players is gonna feel ass and the other player is gonna feel hardly accomplished.

However, I'd still keep the "small" tournaments with the skill range. If I know I'm going to play ranked matches for the next 1-2 hours, I might as well make it interesting with a tournament instead of just having all of them be single, unrelated matches with no special tension. Even with the skillrange in place, it's still a unique experience because it doesn't happen every day and you can actually win some cool stuff rather than just rating points. Besides, even with tournaments organized by sites, there are still occasional beginner or amateur tournaments. Also, if you play ranked matches, you'll be playing opponents of your skill level all the time and will be happy about winning while not feeling bad about losing.

I understand that there are people who would rather play in one bracket with the best players in the world, but honestly, I don't see the fun in just being dependant on luck. You either get a few rounds of beatable opponents and make it far, or have a strong player right of the bat and be eliminated in the very first round, so your tour is over after 3 minutes. Making it far still doesn't say anything about your skill - it only shows how much or little luck you had with your place in the bracket, and you'll always know there is no way in hell you'll ever get close to first place unless you belong to the best.

As for the connection problem - I think that's something both versions of tournaments will have a tough time dealing with, and it depends on your luck with the admin on whether he considers your opponent's connection to be sufficient or not, while you may think it's barely playable. If you know your internet just had a short derp and you'd like a rematch, you could always implement the option of replaying the match if your opponent agrees. (cont.)

The crowdfund just finished a week ago or so. They're going to be on an 18 month dev cycle, so the game will probably be out in early/mid 2017 if everything goes well (lol). As far as characters, yes it's just been Arizona and Velvet that are the most finished so far but If you go look at the streams on their youtube page you can see some very early versions of Paprika (Pinkie) and Oleander (Twilight). As far as lore and designs we've also seen Pom (Fluttershy) and Tianhuo (RD), you can see those on the indiegogo page. There's also some lore on mane6's website.

I never displayed my liking for it, but I visited forums, 4chan and my Steam friend list are by the hundreds, with Skype being the same.

I was pretty much kicked off for complaining about the design changes, and complaining that not enough effort was put into making it like Smash.

At one point I was told by one of the programmers or artist (I am too lazy to dig through my Skype logs) that they weren't interested in the Smash hardcore crowd and stated they were outright not interested in the Smash competitive crowd at all (calling them whiny babies).

I was in charge of training and leading several animators to help get designs for RD's animations done that I had helped plan out. We got pretty far, but I began realizing at some point that I had no damn control over the moves I was not directing. This also meant that shit was repeated, like there were two different special fall animations.

I lost my patience because despite designing moves, I had no idea how they planned to make this game feel like, and stubbornly I began to demand that they give me a clear idea as to what I was making or I would quit.

I began to notice as well other issues, there was a demand to put in items rather than put in basic character animations, items that the team had no idea how the characters would hold as they never anticipated how that would work (they would just float on the character's back).

I also realized that animations I had planned and made (for some) such as TECHING and SIDESTEPPING were NOT overlooked, they were not designed to be in. I asked why they weren't in and I was told that's because the game isn't a Smash clone. I asked how the game was supposed to play like and I was pretty much told Smash, but not Smash.

I'm not even exaggerating, I don't know how this game played like aside from an early tech demo.

To live up to my namesake, I also wanted to add Normal Norman as a WTF character and the Equestria Girls rep.
I wanted to pad the stage roster by having stages from other Hasbro properties as stages (a Battleship Stage, Downtown City, Lite-Brite, Canterlot High, and Cybertron) were all stages I had suggested.

Crossovers were shot down because "crossovers are terrible" and "we don't want to make another Double Rainboom" to which I pointed out the hypocrisy when I stated that Smash Bros. was one big giant crossover.

Normal Norman was shot down because I was informed that a human attacking ponies was considered too violent to Hasbro and this is when I learned that things would need to be tweaked because certain things in Smash Bros. would be too violent and the project would get taken down, so I decided to make things super silly to get around having things be violent.

Right, but Smash *Ponies* would have two distinct character body types. While it works in Smash because it just looks like a random mess of shapes and colors, it'd be more of a Ponies vs Humans in a less diverse cast.

Before you mention the other species in Equestria, I'd like to mention how you'd probably have at the very least 10 different ponies, their human counterparts, and *one* catbird, *one* donkey (if Cranky even makes it to the game), *one* phoenix, etc. In Smash, I find that each body type looks pretty different, beyond colors and hairstyles, even while being the same species.

Whoever thought rope could be used to bar an alpacas way clearly hasn't had many years experience. Back when I was just starting out, we had regular sheep fencing around all the paddocks. The gates were wooden, and rather flimsy. That all changed once Sox, one of our males, ended up on the front lawn. Resources were immediately spent into upgrading to deer fencing, and 2 meter high steel gates. We only use temporary rope fencing to act as a 'hallway' when needing to guide the herd across a paddock during rotation. As for plastic fencing, well, it took our stud male Caspian all of 4 hours to break a hole through the temporary paddock subdivider, and get to the females on the other side. I have the exact same feel when having to go to /vg/ for a few games I love. It gets easier with time.

so guys, since the pom lore is two days late, I was thinking about certain headcanons to pass the time.

We know that Pom is young, as Faust stated she was a lamb. Since she also stated that cattlekind most likely grows like real life cows, it's likely that other species (including sheep) do too. Lambs in real life are less than 1 year old.

My headcanon is that Woof, Ruff, Tuft and Puff are the same age as Pom, and it was designed that all newborn sheep are given a litter of puppies in order to prompt the protective nature of the dogs with the sheep they guard.
