It's almost an interesting take on post-WWII relations. I don't know if the creators did it on purpose or not, but all of Domon's closest allies were representing countries that fought Japan during WWII. That's actually important for a couple reasons. First of all these countries haven't all completely gotten over WWII, especially China. I know France and US are friendly with Japan, and I have no idea about Russia, but there's some bad blood between China and Japan. Having all five of them work together is actually pretty important. Second, it's also unique in anime. For some reason anime doesn't like those four countries. Hell, even America is generally seen as antagonistic a lot of the time. Having them all be important allies to Japan in G Gundam is a big deal and sets it apart from other anime.

Though this might just be complete coincidence and G Gundam just needed four high-profile countries to be allies.
