People might've said that the OVA was bad because of how it didn't give a shit about the manga that came before it, the plot of the OVA is a hot mess, even by super robot standards. The art is great, the fight scenes are ok but the entire experience ends being average because nothing is really happening most of the time. Literally if you've seen this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8pFD8_-dRw&t=2s) you don't even need to watch the show. "Awaken Zeorymer" is one hell of a majestic soundtrack

See I watched that video prior to trying it out after hearing Zeorymer was bad - and thought that Zeorymer would be mediocre because of that ( I went in expecting just the art to be good). But it cuts out all the interesting parts of the fights scenes in the first 3 episodes. It really does a huge disservice to the OVA.

I thought that the plot and characters were great as well, very simple and effective - with the bit about forging your own identity against pre-programmed destiny being just ambitious enough to give the show emotional weight, but not too ambitious for a 4 episode OVA.
