Those are robots anon.

I don't know why you'd want the main Rider to go around killing cops in the first place.

I don't feel it desu.

The wall plot is hilariously bad if you stop to think about it even for a second, the evil scientist guy is eating the scenery but not in a loveable Kougami kind of way, the Pandora Box has no worthwhile mystery hooks other than that it's a power source and the main character is a lowkey Mary Sue which is the worst kind of Mary Sue. The girl is throwing Koyomi/Poppy flags and I fucking hate that.

Oh, and fuck whoever thought random formulas looked good as a special effect. That graph rider kick, I don't even.
>>
That's a neat touch.
>>
>>15840710
>the rider kick with the equation
>all of the math and it actually adds up
I really love the fact that they are playing up the physicist part.
I also really love the costume design and how it changed when he used the hedgehog thing.

The only thing I have an issue with right now is the wall thing. "SO UHH WE GOT THIS BOX FROM MARS" *guy makes a mad dash for it and touches it*
Alright so instead of trying to communicate with the other sides of Japland let's just split the country 3 ways and not mention it to anyone else.
>>
from 1 to 10 how autistic is this episode?
and from 1 to 10 how fun is this episode?
>>
Anyone got a webm of Sento's henshin sequence in this episode?
>>
>>15840840
The way the opening describes it, they're actually still in contact, and the wall didn't force the country to break up. The Box did something to brainwash the national leaders who were in attendance such that they suddenly wanted to break up the country, so I'm guessing the Box is designed to force this scenario on whatever place it arrives in.

I wonder how many kids are going to ruin their toys and/or microwaves trying to recreate this
>>
So, the scientist dudes are totally Nitroge and BloodStark, right?
>>
>>15840883
I didn't really think about it that way. I know they said that the box had an effect on the people who where there, but even still I'm thinking what, the country gets split, they need a new government, and so they pick the people who were insane at the time as their new leaders? I might just be picky for something that at it's core is made to sell toys, but I'm just not feeling it right now.
>>
>>15840917
Seems that way, yeah. Similar to how their shows hid Zangetsu and Genm's reveal(though Zangetsu was spoiled by prerelease material).
>>
>>15840268
>random formulas
Did you never take physics?
>>
>>15840926
>so they pick the people who were insane at the time as their new leaders?
I'm assuming the three that were zoomed in on took control.
>>
>>15840268
>the evil scientist guy is eating the scenery but not in a loveable Kougami kind of way,
Kougami was never a villain and the scientist dude is obviously Nitroge.
>the Pandora Box has no worthwhile mystery hooks other than that it's a power source
It's only episode one and the mysteries will most likely come from poking around it.
>and the main character is a lowkey Mary Sue which is the worst kind of Mary Sue.
He really hasn't yet.
>The girl is throwing Koyomi/Poppy flags and I fucking hate that.
Not at all.
>>
>>15840268

Being nitpicky here but I wish the translations were more true to the original meanings.
"Law of victory" from the actual catchphrase definitely sounds more confident than "winning formula".
Also Hagane is literally just steel, translating it to fullmetal is pretty unnecessary.
>>
>>15841110
For fuck's sake. They didn't do Gaim or Ex-Aid because the suits looked like utter trash in the promos.
>>
>>15841701
Agreed, but OT are the "muh localization" side of the sub-sphere so it's probably not going away anytime soon.

>>
I´m fine with the transformation, powerups, and designs.

I just think the swivel handle is pretty stupid and really doesn´t fit.
>>
>>15841771
The literal translation refers to "law" as in the type associated with science. Like Newton's law. Scientific laws. That anon isn't ESL...

I suggested this to some other team that was working on Build to use: "The winning act has been decided" because it's a good substitute for laws of victory.

Either way, I'm just waiting for Build to say that stupid ass phrase in either literal or O-T variation and immediately job to some newcomer.
>>
>this scene
>expecting sound cue and the guy to scream and fall backwards in his chair
>just looks back to the screen with a subtle "goddammit" look on his face
Makes this episode a 11/10 for me alone. Also helps that Sento is kind of a lovable cunt.
>>
>>15841771
勝利の法則 is Laws of Victory, like a play on "the laws of science"?

Also, 勝利 and 法則 can only mean Victory and Law. You can't translate it to anything else without altering the meaning.

I like this. Seems like it's going to be more traditional yet doing it's own thing. I think I was right skipping Ex-Aid.

As an observer looking in, Ex-Aid just looked like a massive clusterfuck and I think I'd prefer something more down to Earth.

Pandora's Box is a Martian developed super weapon that caused the destruction of life on their planet. It breaks down people, and causes societal rifts that ultimately lead to war and extinction. Smash are created to destroy society, Build's purpose to repair it.

That's just my theory, anyway.

Everyone I know who has watched Ex-Aid, IRL or online (including you guys on /m/) seem to have nothing but praise for it.
And I don't doubt it. It probably is that good.

But the design, I just, can't.
I mean, can you show a pic of Ex-Aid to anyone who doesn't know him, and say with a straight face, "This is my hero, he fights for justice" ?

I'm a Showa faggot and Build is the first modern Kamen Rider I'm watching due to the designs of the other Heisei riders being so off putting. I enjoyed the first episode.

OOO wasn't awful, but it still kind of felt out of place against a really good series (W) and a series full of dumb yet fun shit (Fourze)
>>
>>15842626
W was shit though. It was going nowhere, plot pacing went to a crawl. The only reason people like it is because

>muh philip

>muh hardcore shotaro
>it's better than decade xdddd

when in reality:
>plot goes nowhere
>plot actually makes no sense
>philip's origins is retarded as fuck
>his entire family dies out of retardation
>sanjo pussied the fuck out and gave it a happy ending
>aka the show went back to square one with 0 progression.

Thank the fucking lord that OOO had more competent writing with a much more clearer plot progression and an actual consequence

imo W holds up for the great characters and cool noir / cyberpunk tone, but looking back I think a lot of its reputation comes from how it compared to the shows that came before it. Pretty much every show from Faiz to Decade had MAJOR issues in one way or another except for (arguably) for Den-O, which is not for everyone. Sure each of these shows have their upsides (desu I enjoyed most of them), but Faiz is an angsty soap opera, Blade is so badly acted the Japanese audience found it hilarious and only gets good about 30 episodes in, Hibiki got completely reformated halfway through, Kabuto isn't too bad but also dropped the ball by the end, Den-O is aimed at literal babies, Kiva's main character is so angsty he tries to abort himself, and Decade has great moments but is frankly all over the map. Then W comes along and is just fun. I stand by it being a good show, but when people praise it to the high heavens you have to remember how good it was in comparison to where Kamen Rider was at at the time. Honestly it really benefits from being the first show in forever with absolutely no influence from Toshiki Inoue, who's responsible for a large part of the franchise's issues in the late 2000s, and especially for the problems with Decade and Kiva.

Maybe because Wizard and Ghost were dreadful to sub? Working on a mediocre show will pretty much kill any love you have for the series. They just took a break to recharge which coincided in not subbing two good shows.
>>
>>15843920
Can we stop this meme? They were set to announce Gaim but Magenta told them he was going to do it through Aesir and Heat basically felt like it'd be a waste to have two sets of good subs.

Ex-Aid wasn't subbed because Heat didn't like the designs. Ghost had shit to do with it. Heat was shitting on Ex-Aid non-stop before it aired and then as it was airing, only warming up to it a bit later on but still never really liking it that much.

dont see what's 'gunpla' about it other than the name???
honestly so far build seems far more coherent than most recent series in terms of motifs, the water bottles at least kinda make sense with the physicist thing, not like Ex-Aid's "we had a show about riders who work in a hospital but then management said we had to work in video games somehow so here goes lol"

>>
>>15844039
Mixing in two or three unrelated themes is the norm since Decade on, Build is the outlier in having such a consistent theme. Nothing still compares to W having like 5 or 6 different motifs shoved together.
>>
>>15844039
The only thing that's really Gunpla about it is the fact that the belt summons a giant plastic injection mold and creates both halves of the suit on a pair of model kit runners.
>>
>>15844095
none of the motifs in W were too egregious and they all kinda fit with the cyberpunk noir thing it was going for. shows like Gaim (street dancing and fruit?) and Ex-Aid fare much worse than W by how off the wall their toy motifs were and how little they fit with the premise of the show, though Gaim put in a damn good effort

Not that anon, but if you got to watch the other episodes past the ones that they subbed, it's kinda true. The only memorable fun episode so far with the subbed ones was episode 3 where there were heavy references to games and I'm glad that they got it subbed. Plus that one bit in episode 2 about the Parasyte parody.

Give it to me straight, how much did I fuck up by skipping Ex-Aid. I was busy at the time and couldn't stand the chibi EX-Aid form even though I knew it'd go away.

Gaim was my favorite for reference
>>
>>15844564
Hi, I am the timer/typesetter/editor of RTA's Ex-Aid and can confirm this was not a spinoff group. RTA actually started on his own, but later on I offered assistance on all the technical stuff to help him out (if you watched from the beginning, you know the exact episode when that happened). It is not Heat (who did do a couple things re:Build, but by and at large kept away from it). It's also plainly obvious it's not Heat, and frankly I am still befuddled anyone would think it's Heat or the colored guy if you looked at the writing for more than a minute.

RTA is also not a regular member from our team, but we know him from previous ventures. He's a cool guy and likes gacha maybe too much.
>>
>>15845626
> how much did I fuck up by skipping Ex-Aid
Well, not much considering you can still watch it.
But yeah, watching it with /m/ was a blast, similar to the Gaim days. Though I prefer the Gaim days on that regard.

If you liked Gaim, you'll probably at the very least like Ex-Aid, even if it doesn´t become your favorite.
>>
>>15845626
Watch it. It's a pretty good contender for the #1 slot among Heisei Rider: about as good as Gaim on average, but it manages to have a decent ending rather than drop the ball at the finish line.

Well if you really need a scapegoat lay it on me, by all means

I'll own up to the early sunday releases, at least.
>>
>>15845868
Don't push yourself too hard. Having a slightly later release won't kill anyone. Take your time and have fun with Build. Thanks for doing it!
>>
>>15845626
It took most of the plotpoints Gaim flubbed and at least attempted to remedy them.
>>15845662
>similar to the Gaim days
Oh please the real rider boom on /m/ was OOO.
>>
>>15840978
The problem isn't that they use the, but rather how they're using them
Just feels incredibly tacked on because their spaz gimmick this time doesn't really lend itself t...matching up.

>Oh please the real rider boom on /m/ was OOO.
Oh, I see. I started in 2013 when Wizard was airing so I didn't know that.
>>

Love you beautiful OT people, I just hope Timeranger gets finished before Shout Factory picks it up.
>>
>>15842230
I dropped Ex-Aid a couple of episodes in because it had the worst opening theme of the Heisei riders. Does it get a second opening at any point?
>>
>>15845983
The only Rider series' in the Heisei Era that actually got a second new opening song Blade and Hibiki. There is also Agito if you count the 24/7 version.
>>
>>15845983
No, sadly. Though it's easy to skip since it's mostly played right at the start of the episode, and sometimes not at all
>>
Fucking Ex-aid is the rebirth of Gaim babies. If I wanted shitty anime writing where death does not matter than I would watch Code Geass R2.

Not him, but it sounds like a song by some 90's boy band, it they sang in Japanese and had only one singer.
>>
Anyone like Hajimari no Kimi e (hibiki 2nd op) I know it feels really off for a Kamen Rider series, but I guess I enjoy it out of being a classic music fag and also learning to appreciate enka-esque stuff.

It's fine. Fourze and W were a lot of fun as well but OOO is really where it clicked for people.
Gaim's hype didn't quite matchup but it wasn't the Wizard era deadzone.

>>15845983
Sadly. Most of the inserts are by Kamen Rider Girls to boot.

and being bad "on purpose" makes it stop being bad how?
>>
>>15846371
If you can't accept and have fun at a show that takes and embraces the absolute worst parts of the early 90s you might be watching the wrong franchise, pal.
>>
>>15846390
Or maybe you just hate Showa?
>>
>>15846305
W was the first time in five years there'd been a Rider show that was actually good, rather than "good characters but shitty story" or "good until they fucked with it halfway through" or "unwatchable trash". I distinctly recall people warning people away from watching W as their first Rider because they thought it was too good and it would be years before we'd get another show like it. OOO and Fourze also being good helped convince people that Rider had actually changed its ways, and that's when you saw a big boom in the viewership here.
>>
>>15844837
i meant theme more than tone really, but it hits on a lot of the motifs of the genre - just in a kid friendly way. cyberspace as a way of gaining knowledge, designer drugs / addiction, the quest to become superhuman at the cost of one's humanity.... sounds pretty cyberpunk to me.
>>
>>15846533
Also W looks less groundbreaking looking back now because it created a formula and even a tone that the following shows would kinda do to death. But at the time the way it balanced an overarching plot with relatively episodic two-parters was a bit of a departure from how things had been done previously!
>>
>>15846143
I didn't because I preferred first OP. Sometimes the transition from the cold opening to 2nd OP was way too jarring for me.
>>
>>15846602
I mean, the reason a lot of other Rider shows follow W's formula and tone is because they work. They consistently produce good shows unless the writer is superbly lazy, as with Wizard, or exceptionally clumsy in their handling of their story, as with Ghost. Sure, Rider isn't as experimental as it used to be, but being experimental doesn't do you any good if most of your experiments blow up in your face. I'll gladly take the reduction in variety for the dramatic improvement in average quality.
>>
>>15846700
yeah absolutely, and though OOO to Wizard stuck a bit too close to W's formula, they branched out a lot with Gaim and Ex-Aid and mostly pulled it off
>>
I love that they're trying to make science look cool to kids haha. I'm hooked even in spite of the shitty CG bike chase

>>15840859
Near 10 on both
>>
You should be able to solve this.

>The formula to walk through walls is a simple derivative

I've been walking around the walls this entire time, I need to see if this works.
>>
>>15847397
The speedforce formula is even more stupid.
If you can fully comprehend it then just saying it out loud gives you a costume and superspeed.

Not that I know of, but they're continuing the candy toy line from Ex-Aid.

Just reminds me of how bad I want Araki to write a Kamen Rider season (or at least design one).
>>
>>15845983
They just straight up skip the OP for a LONG stretch in the middle.
>>
>>15846390
Now that you mention it, I feel like the aesthetics of Ex-Aid were trying to finally make up for being off the air through the 90s.
>>
>>15846533
>people warning people away from watching W as their first Rider because they thought it was too good
I remember the same happening for Gaim too (my first Rider, so I wasn't around for W).

OMG

AMAZONZ reference!

'member that time Hiroki Nagase was like "what the heck" in that show?
