The shields were equipped with be gatlings not auto cannons and even then it was a last minute addition that wasn't designed for or normally added to the unit. Without them, as it would usually be, all it has is shield funnels; useful, but not something that makes it outright better than most late UC units, which almost all have stationary beam shields of their own.

Counting the beam gatlings as funnels though it's still not really any different than Nu, which also had beam rifle funnels that Co form I-fields, not only ones small enough to fit on a funnel, but which could hold a mobile suit inside their field if I recall, meaning they worked on physical matter as well as energy.

It was basically the Gundam version of the Force Awakens. Like, there were far too many callbacks. More, it smacked of AU writing, down to Banagher's role as basically Newtype Jesus.

See, the story is actually really, really dumb when you pause to think about it. The thing about Unicorn is that, as a story, it doesn't hold up at all. It has great animation, but the plot is completely insane.

I don't know about that. I'm sure v2 is way faster, but while unicorn isn't given any hard numbers, it does kill it's first pilot through g force. I'd say it is quite a bit faster that non minovsky drive suits.
