I remember the problem with the manga being it had the most insane power creep in a pretty bizarre way, in that Megaman would get a new powerup every five minutes and it would be rendered obsolete like a chapter later. It did this over and over and over until eventually you get stuff like Fireman casually kicking Megaman's shit in while Megaman is using his most powerful form that's been hyped up for most of the manga.

You need adapters called Battle Chip Gates that plug into the link cable slot, and it only works with the JP versions besides US 4 and US 6 recognizing their respective Gates, though 4 has no function and 6 just gives you a now useless emblem on the title screen. Despite this, the US chips work just fine on the JP games. In them, I believe you can slot in the chips to the gate during battle to add them to MegaMan's current stack of chip data. For 4.5, there are also specific Navi Mark chips that unlock the Navi for use early, and in 6, similar chips let you use Link Navis or ProtoMan as your regular Navi instead of MegaMan. This feature is fully present in US 6 through things like GameShark, but I don't know if the actual gate and chips work. 4.5 came with a chip like this for StarMan.

4 and 4.5's adapter is just the Battle Chip Gate, its chips are shaped like a rectangle. I don't know what 5's adapter is called, but the one for 6 is the Beast Link Gate. I don't have any crazy stories since I was in middle school around the time BN was at 5 or so. But I very much remember that my school friends and I used to play just about everything together, and quite competitively. FireRed/LeafGreen, Yu-Gi-Oh! the works. Battle Network naturally followed and that's what I was the best at. We'd run to this shabby little store to look at the WWE magazines at the time since they basically had softcore porn all over them and included posters. From there we'd hit up the local gamestore. We had a lot of fun playing the Battle Network games together, and since we were just NYC kids, every little thing was cause for hype. There wasn't any of the "cool kids picking on the videogame nerds" kind of thing, since both groups had a lot of overlap, so everyone could just get into seeing other kids play games. By the time BN6 rolled around, I had to move away over night due to a domestic dispute and never got to say goodbye to my friends or the girl I was "dating," etc. So Lan moving away for the game hit me pretty hard. Lan eventually going back was nice, but I knew that'd never happen to me so it sucked. But I got a lot of mileage out of BN6 and even the older games with the pocketful of kids who openly played games at my new school. I made some lifelong friends there and we still play. Not necessarily a netbattling story, but one of how important BN was to me as a kid. Still is even now.

Starting in Beast+, the timeslot was either moved or split into 2 15 minute segments. (One for EXE and one for another series that currently escapes me) Because of this, you now had episodes that were 10 to 12-ish minutes in length. Beast+ also attempted 2 storylines (one from the Gamecube game and one from the mobile games.) 26 10 minute episodes just meant that the season didn't get as much runtime to flesh things out and the final episodes didn't really feel as much of a goodbye as they could have been. The series could have easily ended with Stream and felt like a good conclusion there.

Oddly enough, Ryuusei no Rockman/Star Force's anime had the same issue happen with the second series, Tribe. The timeslot was shortened (iirc, again it's been awhile) and the anime ended after 21 episodes with the plot going through the second set of games. (The 3rd and final game never had an anime to go with it)

Sonia's entire point is that for each other they were "Hey, I'm just like you, but you seem fine, maybe we should stop hurting ourselves over this".
