How many episodes would it take to properly tell the story of the game, along with what kind of liberties would need to be taken to make it work cohesively if the main character from the game is Silent or custom created?

I could see something like Metal Wolf Chaos working as a short 6 or 7 episode OVA series, just relishing in the insanity of its plot and characters.

would they keep the VAs/ actual game dialogue in?

it's part of the game's charm and "fixing it" might ruin the experience for some.

Wasn't the actual story that MWC got the first people they found who could speak fluent English to do all the voice acting or is that just a rumor that I really want to be true?
>>

pretty much.

their english is good, it's just the dialogue provided is funny when said out loud.

i forgot what series but a dvd release fixed all of the issues the tv had but fans prefered the tv because the errors made watching it funny.

if a MWC anime is made but they fixed the dialogue, it might lose it's charm (or make it a serious bad-ass).

I could see something like Steel Battalion being done into a 2 season, 15 episodes per season series.

Episode 1: Decider "World building, plus opening to intro mission"

Episode 2: World at War "Intro mission, MC becomes a decider pilot, Hai-Shi-Daos president, Grommit Sin, actively declares war against the Pacific Rim alliance.

Episode 3: Storming the beaches "MC becomes designated Oscar 1, Eventually meets other teams, along with his resupply unit. MC enters into his first official battle at the shoreline of Hai-Shi-Doa and proceeds to lose his cool in the heat of combat.

Episode 4: Artillery ambush "MC is chastized by a more veteran unit for his inability to fight properly during the initial invasion. While Oscar 1 contemplates if it was even right for him to take the place of his trainer in the war, a surprise attack annihilates the veteran VT pilots transports, forcing Oscar 1 to stop the assault before he and his new comrades are annihilated.

Episode 5: Decider vs. Scarface "Battered from the surprise attack from Hai-Shi-Doas Vortex units, Oscar platoon is deployed in a desperate maneuver to overtake a major Hai-Shi-Doa radio station to reunify communications across the territory. Unlike previous battles where Hai-Shi-Doa had been utilizing an obsolite Vitz type VT, a new model VT that stands on par with the Pacific Rim's Decider is deployed to defend the facility."

Episode 6: The Fallen Flagship "Despite a major victory in reconnecting the Pacific Rims communications lines, reinforcements from the sea have been exterminated by a new model Battleship from Hai-Shi-Doa. Undermanned and without a full resupply from the last battle, Oscar 1,2 and 3 are deployed to launch a full scale assault on the naval base where the ship is resupplying before it can do any more damage to the Pacific Rims fleet."

Episode 7: A matter of Prominence "Oscar 1's desperate suicide maneuver to destroy the Hai-Shi-Dao capital ship is a success, however his Decider is completely destroyed in the battle. Without a machine to continue fighting in, along with the Pacific Rims supply lines becoming even further stretched by the invasion inland, he awaits news of his transfer to rearline duty. However, Oscar 1 soon learns that the Pacific Rim Alliance has placed its hope into its newest V2-type VT, The M1 Prominence, and deploys a mass production type to replace his ruined Decider.

Episode 8: Guerilla "While the Pacific Rim Alliance continues to push inland, countless small militia's begin to form in the rural sections of Hai-Shi-Doa. Attempting to find the location of the arms supplier who is arming these Guerilla's, Oscar 1 deploys for his first sortie in the M1 Prominence.

Episode 9: Phantom signals "A captured weapons container used by the local Guerilla factions reveals a major weapon development base hidden into the mountains of Hai-Shi-Doa. If the base can be stopped, Hai-Shi-Doa would effectively lose any protection to its homelands backdoor. As Charlie 5 and Beta 1 begin to investigate the mountains, they are felled to an invisible attacker. Desperate the find the base, Oscar 1 and Echo 1 are deployed to find its entrance and find their lost comrades.

Episode 10: Jaralaccs "The Jaralaccs, known and feared as the most elite of the third worlds mercenaries, are found to be the invisible unit defending the R&D base. Barely surviving the ambush laid for them, Echo 1 and Oscar 1 are ordered to lead an attack on the base to destroy not only the base, but to destroy the Jaralaccs units completely. While a suicide mission on paper, the unit begins a long journey into the blackened bowels of the facility.

Episode 11: Pride of the Jarlaccs "With the R&D bases exterior overtaken, and the Hai-Shi-Doa standard forces in full retreat from the facility, the
leader of the Jarlaccs, the ghost of Gibraltar, remains behind to die fighting for a VT combatant worthy of his attention. Faced with a phantom who has experinces VT warfare during its inception, Oscar 1 faces his greatest challenge yet.

Episode 12: The Railgun "The R&D facility falls, and with its collapse, the entire northern defensive line of Hai-Shi-Doa collapses, forcing a full fledged retreat to the capital. Refusing to let such an opportunity pass them by, Oscar 1's M1 Prominence is upgraded with a new prototype weapon, the Railgun. With the firing strength of nearly five times the power of the M1's 240mm cannon, this weapon is believed the turn the tide of the war. Deployed to destroy the evacuating Vitz and Scarface units onroute to the capital, Oscar sorties into battle yet again.

Episode 13: Fields of atrocities "The war between the Pacific Rim Forces and Hai-Shi-Doa enters its final phase as both sides converge on the wastelands of Hai-Shi-Doa's capital city. Armed with over 80 VT units, along with a new prototype V3 model VT, the final largest mechanical battle in human history is about to unfold.

Episode 14: Capital offensive "Despite the loss of nearly 90% of its total battle strength outside its capital, Hai-Shi-Doa refuses to surrender. Despite the horrific losses also incurred from the Pacific Rim Forces, one final attack on the capital to capture Grommit Sin is put into action. As Echo 1 hatred for the Hai-Shi-Doa populous grows, Oscar 1 is reminded by his crippled mentor that the conflict will never end until Grommit Sin is stopped. Entering into the heat of battle, Oscar 1 and Echo 1 fight not only against the remaining Hai-Shi-Dao military, but the citizens of the city as well.

Episode 15: unatoned Sin "Echo 1 is injured in the chaos of the Capitals destruction and the Pacific Rim unit is overwhelmed by the monsterous power of the Juggernaut, the ultimate expression of VT technology. Reminded by his encounter with the leader of the Jarlaccs and the loss of so many to bring the war to this point. Oscar 1's cripple M1 uses the remaining fuel from Echo 1's unit to engage the Juggernaut one final time. In a heated duel, Oscar 1 overloads his own railgun to deal a fatal blow to the Juggernaut, at long last bribing the struggle to an end. As the EU council enters to aid in negotiations and to gain an assessment of the casualties of the battle, Echo 1 is saved from his unit, but terribly physically scarred from the battle. Oscar 1 awaits the news of Grommit Sins capture, only to learn during the chaos of the war, that Grommit has escaped from the city. With a new puppet government put into power by the EU, the war between Hai-Shi-Doa and the Pacific Rim Forces comes to a close. With the loss of nearly the entire VT pilots corps, Oscar 1 is promoted to Lieutenant as a result of his actions, and becomes commander of the newly formed Oscar platoon. While looking upon the ruined Capital of Hai-Shi-Doa, Oscar 1 and his mentor predict another war shall come about, one far worse than what they encountered today. With the closing of the first VT World War, the world drifts back into idle peace.

Front Mission would adapt real well into anime format. Both from the viewpoint of the main cast (like in the games), as well as from the sidelines, as a bunch of self-contained vignettes (like the manga).

FM3, FM4, or FM5 would work especially well.

FM3 literally starts with the civilians-turned-soldiers-due-to-circumstances schtick common to a number of mecha anime, and either go the Alicia route or a hybrid of both. Kazuki's upgrade would be the Hoshun Mk112.

FM4 would be interesting; having two separate but interconnected storylines. Maybe include the short LN set post-story that dealt with Elsa's temporary descent into depression and drugs and her slow but growing relationship with Darryl, and subsequent recovery.

FM5 also works fairly well; it has the childhood friends, the friend-turned-rival, the love interest, the falling out and revival of friendships and romance, and a sad but happy ending.

Pretty much everything considering how low the bar is for anime writing.
