It seemed like most people's complaint is that Mika is a bland character.

I don't really understand why people act like he's the main character though. It's more of an ensemble show. And his attitude, I thought, is pretty interesting because I was under the assumption that he is literally a sociopath. It was fun to see how socially awkward he could be without having any awareness of it. If you've even known anyone with that condition, it's a pretty accurate portrayal.

Because it's a fucking GUNDAM show, and he pilots the main fucking GUNDAM. If he's not the main character, then the show fundamentally failed at the one fucking thing it's supposed to do.

I don't turn on a show called GUNDAM to watch a bunch of bullshit and no GUNDAMS. I'm here for the GUNDAMS. So when IBO spends several episodes on end without any mechs fighting and doing mech-things with just people talking dramatically at each other, never mind no GUNDAMS in sight, it's a fucking failure. If they wanted to tell the stories of space paupers and sad emotions with no GUNDAMS in it, they shouldn't have fucking called it GUNDAM. Because anything called GUNDAM is going to come with a giant mountain of expectations for fans of the franchise. And chief among them is that you actually have it be about fucking GUNDAMS.

Yes, don't fall for the lie that they don't make sense. The only thing people are unhappy about with the Zeta movies is that it makes ZZ and Unicorn not canon and the jarring animation difference.

Which ironically the MSG trilogy did the same thing, but because animation techniques hadn't advances as much in 2 years as opposed to 2 decades, the differences were not as noticeable.

It should be noted that they did rerecord everyone's lines even for the old animated scenes too. So it's worth watching for how the actors deliver their lines compared to the original.

Yes don't watch the compliation films. They are pretty bad. If you're someone who actually has an interest in Gundam watch the fucking TV series. The movies cut out so much characterisation and development. You won't love the white base crew as much too.

The 0079 movies are a summary of what you just watched.
You should watch every show in the Early Universal Century timeline from OP's chart in year of release order.
That is, after 0079 come Z, ZZ and Char's Counterattack. That's where the main story finishes. Then you have other Early UC shows that happen sometime around (might be shortly before, during or shortly after) 0079: 0080, 0083, 08th MS Team, IGLOO, The Origin and Thunderbolt.
