Just finished the first season. Probably one of my favorite toku shows now. I hope seven is as good.

If I didn't know Zero Beyond was Zero himself, I'd almost think he was a totally different Ultra. The only real features he carries over are his distinctive eyes and the lines on his body matching his normal form's.
>>
So will it be the final episode or the movie where Zero combines Zero Beyond with the Ultimate Aegis?

What's the consensus on this dude and his show? I honestly forgot he existed until yesterday.
>>

X is fantastic.
>>
>>15814421
I liked it. Yuichi nakamura makes good ultra sounds
>>
>>15814421
it starts out pretty good but takes a nosedive after he gets the Exceed power up.
>>
>>15814421
I liked it a fair bit, but felt that they put in too many cameos from other Ultras. I get why they did it, due to toy reasons, but it still bothered me a little.

The final fight was real good though. Felt like it took a lot of inspiration from Evangelion.
>>
>>15814421

Has some of the best episodic plots in the franchise as far as I'm concerned. It's just too bad the main plot and Daichi himself are both really fucking boring.

Is that another Chaiyo Ultra?
>>

Probably the final episode. The movie will do something newer to sell more toys.
>>

Is X a good show for a beginner to watch? I haven't watched any other ultras, but I have a basic understanding of how these shows work.
>>
>>15814873
Just do it
>>
>>15814873
I would suggest the original, Seven, Tiga, Nexus or Mebius before X to be quite honest.
Unless you're a /krg/ migrant who shits his diapers over shows made before 2000 in which case this isn't the franchise for you.
>>
>>15814873

Yes, it's newbie friendly, but does have a few cameo appearances by other Ultraman characters, and a crossover with Ginga early on. You don't need to be familiar with any of those older series to enjoy it though.

Really, you can watch just about any Ultraman series as your first one. Just pick something that looks interesting and jump in.
>>
>>15814901

Fuck you buddy, I'm a /krg/ migrant and Ultraseven was the first Ultraman series to make me a fan of the franchise.

Got back from Japan World Heroes con lads. Met Bin Furuya and got star struck a little. The man is absolutely a treasure. He shared some good stuff with us:
>The lights for Ultraman's eyes and timer have the battery under the armpits. Furuya got eletrocute from it
>The face of Ultraman is actually made from a face mold of Furuya
>He almost drowned during filming once because water got inside the suit. The suit had no other openings so the water filled all the way up his nose and almost drowned him
He also really liked posing with little kids.

What's the point of turning into different Ultras? They all have the same powers.

Brand Recognition.
They all have varying strengths and weaknesses and techniques, especially among Ultras with various mode changes. Cosmos' calming/healing attacks, Max's speed, ect.
>>
>>15815962
they've never had the same powers literally since Seven
>>
>>15815363
I met him at G-fest and was overjoyed by how cool he was. His politeness and sincerity is like how you'd expect a real super-hero to act. He was hilarious, talking about how Nakajima (whom he called sempai to my amusement) scared him shitless all the time because he would actually hit Bin in most of their fights.

>inb4 G-fest is full of mouth-breathing autists

And that's why I was so impressed with how nice he was there.

What's the point of Geed having multiple forms if all of them have access to the Geed Claw, which all of its finishers are way stronger than any form could ever do and even got said weapon fairly early?

At least with Orb, only Orb Origin could use the powerful Orb Calibur and was the way to go when he faced the final episodes enemies.
>>
>>15817303
>Size change
>Flight
>Cross beams
>Some kind of slicing attack
>>
>>15817491

Selling toys.

I just find it funny how Geed Claw immediately was rendered ineffective against Galactron the episode after its introduction. I'm a little disappointed we didn't get to see it with Solid Burning this week, but I guess they wanted to give some attention to Hikari as thanks for literally dropping Zero's power-up out of the sky.
>>
14 episodes into seven and the kaiju fights are pretty weak. It almost feels like they were trying to move away from giant monsters. I do like the larger emphasis on aliens always trying to invade though.

Today is the anniversary of Akiji Kobayashi's death. It's funny this guy was there for both the birth of Kamen Rider and Ultraman, albeit I think Tachibana was a much better role.

He said the reason why was that Nakajima was very serious. He sounds like Christian Bale, honestly. He laughed saying (or was rather translated), "Yeah, people think Nakajima is just this old man who politely signs autographs, but he was tough!" Bin pretty much saw him as a superior, but not an asshole it seems.

>>15817869
I always thought he was badass in Ultraman. I remember watching some Hesei Godzilla films as a kid and seeing his actor in them too and getting hyped about it. He was a cool motherfucker.

>It almost feels like they were trying to move away from giant monsters.
Well, they never really got to, thanks to fans wanting more Ultraman.
>>
How do Ultramen like Ginga, Victory and X fit into the M78 world? If they have no relation to the Land of Light where did they come from? This is really confusing to keep track of.
>>
>>15818487
They don't. That's why they're not in the M78 universe.
>>
>>15818487

They're all in different universes. Multiversal travel becomes much more of a regular thing after Zero.
>>
Japan World Heroes second day, notable Ultraman panel was with Dore Klaus, the guy who played Jack Shindo in Ultraman Towards the Future aka Ultraman Great
Things of interest:
>The production was troubled from the start. Japanese production and Australia production were apparently at odds. When production ended, the nips left with the show and the strayans were left with millions of debt literally. As a result Great never actually aired in the down under
>Dore thought he was applying for the suit actor but ended up as the lead. The first guy they hired for the suit was a firefighter, who ironically quit because it was too hot in the suit
>Dore didn't quite get along with the female lead Gia at times. One time during a scene where Jean was covered in slime and Jack had to carry her, Dore kept dropping Gia on the ground because it was slimey
>Dore didn't get to take any prop home. Apparently each one of those plasma spark necklaces cost 600 bucks. He didn't get to wear the suit iether

Dore said he didn't enjoy filming for Great. The entire filming process was quite difficult for everyone involved, but he doesn't regret doing the show.
I asked him about the plot and he said:
>The show was constantly being written and rewritten on the fly. One time Dore had a scene where he had one line, but that got changed to two lines, then four lines, then a full page. When he finally memorized the full page and went to the shoot, they reverted back to just one line again

>>

>>
How is Hikari featured in Geed? Did he get a stand-alone series for himself? I don't really remember.
>>
>>15820599

Hikari first was introduced in Mebius, but he had a three-part side story that fleshed out his backstory and development alongside his appearances in the main series.

In the events of Geed, he's the one who first created the Ultra capsules, but they were lost following the Crisis Impact. Zero comes to Earth trying to track them down. Hikari himself made a brief "BUY OUR TOYS" appearance this week in Geed to drop off the New Generation set for Zero to use to make his Beyond fusion form.
>>
>>15820599
In addition to what >>15820620 says
Hikari basically the DHL guy who was supposed to deliver the Knight Brace to Mebius, as King has already foreseen the danger in the future.
Since the time wasn't right Hikari got to keep the Brace for a bit longer.
>>
I like how Geed takes over the old Ultras and Zero takes on the recent Ultras.

Now waiting for any Tiga fusion form.
>>
When is Ultra King introduced? Cause I remember back when I was a kid, Father Ultra is the badass Ultra there has ever been.

I don't understand that movie for the life of me, because Taro is still a little kid but already Ultraman and Seven are fighting on earth, so did he grow to adulthood in the short number of years between their shows and his own? But he's supposed to be 12 thousand years old, so did he stay a kid for all those centuries?

I think a key distinction between the "New Generation" Ultras (ie Zero onwards) and the older Ultras is how vocal they are now. Ultras frequently speak to each other and call out attacks, and their hosts/human forms are shown controlling from within now. Before it was just grunts and yells and they almost never casually spoke in Ultra form.

Did Zero started named his attacks in the 2009 movie or after it cause depending on the answer he may or may not fit into the same era as Mebius and Max.

There's the "Showa Era" which started with Ultraman (1966) and ended with Ultraman 80 (1980) or Ultraman Zearth (1996) if you count all foreign and non-M78 canon.

There's the "Heisei Era" starting with Tiga (1996) and ending with Mebius (2006) or Zero as said above depending on the answer.

And than there's the "Post Fields era" where the slot-machine company Fields Corporation bought out TYO's 51% stake in Tsuburaya Productions in 2010, with Bandai retaining the remaining 49%. If your wondering why there's such an increase in TOYS focus, nostalgia pandering and similarities to KR and SS this is probably why.

It started with either Zero or Ginga(2013) and continues to the current Ultra in this case Geed (2017).

Orb movie promotion used the term new generation Ultra and started with Ginga (with Seven making a cameo in the movie).

The poster that was used in an event(which was used as an OP pic in one of these threads but I dont have it now) also used Ginga.

Though given Zero is a regular in Geed and he has a new form you could argue he's now part of the new group.
>>
So, why the fuck don't all Ultras have one of this and use it properly?

http://ultra.wikia.com/wiki/Ultra_Bracelet

>Reform: If ripped off or dismembered, Jack's Bracelet can help him reform back to his usual self.
>Recharge: By aiming the face of the bracelet at sunlight, the user can recharge themselves.
>Anti-gravity Beam: Emits a green spiral of light rays from the Bracelet, Capable of lifting an enemy into the air while Ultraman lifts him into space
>Lazy Energy Absorption Capacity: Used to absorb the energy of laziness and shrink the target.

It's literally Ultramen's Sonic Screwdriver/Omni-Tool or whatever the fuck you want to call it. Shit is broken as fuck, and Seven just casually gave one to Jack and fucked off like no biggie

Yes it is, you can praise the way the Ultraman franchise treats the older heroes without mentioning Kamen Rider at all.

>You're aware even returning Heisei Riders get treated like shit in crossover stuff right?
That's more about the crossovers themselves being shit, not them shitting exclusively on the returning riders.

>Some of them are killed in one hit. Kabuto was killed by Skyrider.
You do know Skyrider is older than Kabuto right? Not to mention more often than not these are either non canon, or AU versions. Specially in crossovers.

>Often they don't speak of exhibit any kind of personality that justifies them even being there
Saving the world isn't enough for supposedly heroic characters I guess.

Both it and Ultraseven X are super edge.
>>
>>15826005

Nexus gets pretty fucking dark at times, but it's not edgy. It just makes its heroes fight a lot harder for a happy ending.
>>
I feel like Ginga, X, and now Geed are all responses to Mebius.

Mebius is in my opinion the epitome of Ultraman. It is a perfect series. The characterization is fantastic for everyone. The fights are great. The cameos mean something and aren't just there. The only issue is the toys sales were bad. There just wasn't enough material.

Ginga, X, and now Geed seem to be responding to this by making as many things to make toys out of as possible. I feel they might be missing the point though.
>>
>>15826001
I mean the small fighting. Nexus had no small fighting scenes.
>>
>>15826014

Geed promotes its toys pretty hard, but so far it's done a good job of balancing that, and connecting it with really good character development too.

Ultraman ain't ever going to go back to older levels of toy shilling. It'll be here to stay as long as its profitable. So either it'll be obtrusive, or incorporated well into the actual writing, like what we thankfully have now.
>>
>>15826018
That's wrong. It's either episode 7 8 or 9, there is a small fight with Nexus and Dark Faust.
>>
>>15826024
Orb and Geed are really well done toy inclusion wise. X was really weird with it, some of them were included well, but then you had random Ultra cameos just to shill a new toy that added nothing whatsoever to the show.

It's even weirder because beings with completely different origins or species from other universe are called "Ultras" and recognized as such by other Ultras like Zero just because they have similar appearance and powers.
>>
>>15826144

Zero's willingness to jump straight into fights with little to no thought fucks him over. He has some actual development between his movie appearances and him now in Geed.

He's a hilariously archetypical hot-headed shonen protagonist, but he's not a flawless Gary Stu.
>>
>>15826152
The definition of "Ultra" has changed in time.
Ultraman -> Those guys from M78 -> some guy that looks like Ultraman -> Forces of Light

In his original movie he was definitely a Gary Stu. He beat every enemy alone, something every other ultra couldn't do together.
>>
>>15826133
It's basically like those DC Multiverse deals.
Everything exists in one giant multiverse. In the multiverse are the individual universes where each universe has its Ultraman and lore and whatnots. We have:

>Tiga + Dyna
>Gaia & Agul
>Cosmos & Justice
>Next + Nexus
>Ginga + Victory

Simple archetypes are the best sometimes

Riku's actor himself is still a little rough, but holy hell whoever they cast as Leito has been doing a fantastic job acting CONVINCINGLY for two completely characters
>>
>>15826225
completely *different* characters, I meant
>>
>>15826225
The only major issue Riku's actor has is when he's supposed to either yell or sound angry.
>>
>>15826225
He really does the whole Clark Kent/Superman thing really well. That fight scene (on episode 3 I think?) sold me on the character instantly. He also reminds me of Bruce Lee for some reason.
>>
>>15826031
>Main device is given by a base conveniently made for Riku
>Main plot is conveniently about little stars who let Riku access new forms
>Geed claw is willed
>Zero beyond items are asspulled

Now, the first three are acceptable but not particularly good. I agree Orb is pretty good but not Geed.

>>15826163
Isn't Max on X's universe?
And I though Geed was on the Showaverse too given the first episode shows all of the ones n the Showa universe.
>>
>>15826286
The thing about Geed being in Showaverse is that the Zero movie is in the Showaverse and it is in the future, with mankind in space.
>>
The sword girl in Geed is so random. What's her purpose? She hasn't done anything.

All the verses get screwy after Ginga

She's there to make my dick hard.

Token Sakamoto sweaty kicklegfu. She's also training Riku but eh.
>>
>>15826304
Isn't that what the next episode is about?
>>
>>15826304

Sakamoto's fetish fuel

but she's also getting her backstory fleshed out this next episode, so hopefully that helps.
>>
>>15826304
Female Ultra. We haven't had one in years right?
>>
>>15826326
X wasn't that long ago.
>>
>>15826329
I admittedly skipped X.
>>
>>15826329

I don't get it.
>>
>>15826386
The female deputy cap turns into Nexus
>>
>>15826394

Yeah but what does that have to do with Ultraman X?
>>
>>15826135

They're all random citizens of the Land of Light seen in Ultra Galaxy Legends.
>>

The female deputy cap from X becomes Nexus for an episode
>>
Did Mebius get a second opening?

>>
>>15826693

Ah shit my bad I seem to be mistaking the deputy cap for someone else.

That's from the Mebius movie's credits. The second op for Mebius was just the second half of the song.
>>
Why Noa usually doesn't appear as Noa? Wasn't it his true natural state instead of being a hyper mode for Nexus?
>>
>>15826888

It is, but Noa was depowered after landing on Earth after its initial fight with Dark Zagi. The TLT didn't help matters by erasing people's memories of the fight with Next, so it wasn't until those memories were restored, along with people's hope in Ultraman, that it could reach its full power again in the Nexus finale.
>>
Why is it Tak Matsumoto's orchestral performance of the Ultraman theme isn't on youtube?
>>
>>15826888
They probably don't want to make him look too op in crossover stuff
>>
Are 50 episode Ultraman series done for? Orb and X were really short.
>>
>>15826776
Probably mixed it with the Nexus heroine who becomes Nexus in the Nexus show.

>>15826302
Ah, I see.
>>
>>15826888
Noa requires a Dunamist body as host.
If the Dunamist refused to enter the capsule/pod/whatever that is after the calling Noa cannot show up in that world.
>>
>>15827637

Half-seasons seem to be the norm now, but that may change if Ultraman has an upswing in popularity or profitability.

On one hand, I like the increased focus on the main plot a shorter season gives, and an opportunity to use the budget more effectively. But on the other, I really miss the sci-fi anthology format of older Ultraman series.
