Not really, for the most part the use of language is pretty simple. The only real complications are the references, but even for most of those, people who can recognize them would recognize them even if given a straightforward translation.
The translation stumbles at the basics of the basics: conveying the meaning of what is being said in Japanese in English. It's not a matter of failing to recognise references and giving them special attention or having an unpopular localization style, but simply one of the translator appearing to not grasp Japanese well enough to actually understand what is being said half of the time.
