Autistic characters other than the villains aren't a thing in Mazinger. Everyone just do their job, even Tetsuya.

Kouji himself is the epitome of manliness. He tells his woman to get back to the kitchen when she oversteps her boundaries.

Do you mean the older trailer? Yeah, I'm pretty sure those are flashbacks. Note that they also show the original lab, but there are also shots of the lab with tons of stuff around it. So, those shots of Mazinger launching from the unchanged original lab to face Ashura and Broken are likely flashbacks or just some opening animation clip.
