Unicorn's story is self-contained. Even if you'd only watched MSG you'd still be able to follow it easily. There are a few ZZ references you wouldn't get, but it's not like Unicorn's plot actually follows anything that happened in any of the previous series or movies. One character appeared as a child in like two episodes of ZZ and there's an ominous silhouette in her dreams that's a relatively major character in the second half of ZZ. There's a major character in Unicorn who is the estranged wife or ex wife or something of an important minor character (stated to be an important person, only seen a couple of times) from Zeta and maybe ZZ. If you don't know who Melanie Hue Carbine is, that won't actually interfere with understanding Martha Vist Carbine's role in Unicorn. Knowing who he is just means you'll get the reference of who her husband was.

Considering that the transformation changes the length of the legs, I have a hard time believing they're able to implement it. Doing it without moving the feet along the ground would mean adding a hinge in the hips and ankles to allow the angle of the legs to change, and that's not going to do good things for the stability of the statue.

Doesn't anybody else think these openings look awfully suspicious? Like, if they were already assembling those parts, why did they leave them unfinished while the only thing left was a cover plate? My serious bet is that those openings are used for final installation/adjustments of some of the transforming mechanisms, which are performed by a different specialist team instead of the people who have been building the statue so far.

why did they chose to use Unicorn's design instead of any of those classic ones like MK2, Zeta, ZZ, F91, Nu or even friggin Wing, why use a recent design that probably won't stand the test of time. Not dissing Unicorn's design, i like it, but i don't think it deserves a 1:1 version... yet.

I actually watched unicorn before I watched the original series.

I didn't quite get what was going on half the time but it was still enjoyable.

It's astonishing to even imagine that thing in reality, given that the tallest building ever made is "merely" 830 meters tall. You still have to add additional 370 meters to get something as tall as the SDF Macross.
