I implied no such thing. Athrun is more of an MC in Destiny than Shinn is, but that doesn't make him a Char clone like Rau and Neo.

Athrun isn't a Char clone. They have nothing in common aside from the color of their suits. They have no similar character traits and Athrun didn't even want to fight Kira while Char wanted to destroy the Gundam.

Athrun is my favorite and I don't like how Destiny ended with Lacus and Kira getting their way but ultimately resolving nothing because I doubt the racial tensions between naturals and coordinators just disappeared.

Zeta, honestly. It was the first series that was incredibly toyetic by adding new mobile suits in every episode and focusing on fights instead of telling a proper war story and a story of conflicts between factions but also between people, generations, and ideologies like 0079. As soon as Bandai started getting heavily involved, the series turned to trash. The only other good series besides 0079 were Victory, Turn A and G-Reco and that was because Tomino purposefully made a lot of the designs impossible or unappealing to turn to toys, and he also refocused on telling a story about characters and ideas.
Basically, Zeta Gundam and ZZ Gundam were the sequels that no one wanted forced by executive meddling by suits who saw a chance for some big bucks with the toys. Like the upcoming Pacific Rim sequel, or the Star Wars sequel movies, they completely missed whatever made the original so great.

To be fair, Lacus only seems to have unbelievable amounts of sway over the population of the PLANTs. For whatever reason, the non-Orb Earth nations don't seem to really care about her.
I'm guessing the Naturals don't arc up anymore is because Shinn/Durandal wiped out most of their military in Destiny, then Lacus swooped in at the last minute to claim victory.

Cardeas Vist puts Banana through NOT-cyber newtype training as a child to train him for the Unicorn a la Huey doing to Otacon. Full Frontal isn't actually Char despite being referred to as the Second Coming of the Red Comet and him looking nearly identical; he is a figurehead brainwashed into portraying himself as Char to fulfill certain agendas a la Venom Snake in MGSV: TPP.
I'm pretty sure there's other parallels but those are the two that come to mind immediately from the latest K O J I M A title. He also took a lot of ideas from Angel Cop; Raiden becoming a cyborg soldier and Lucifer saying "You're pretty good" are examples.

Also, MGSV's second title is called the Phantom Pain, which is also the name of an antagonist group in Seed Destiny as well as the protagonist's employers in Stargazer.
