How about retelling existing stories instead? Remakes of Zeta, ZZ, CCA and Victory to go with the 0079 remake that we all know is coming eventually because it'll earn Bandai boatloads of money.

Stuff in G-Savior's era would be welcomed as well, same for Gaia Gear.

There are always more stories to tell, the question is whether anyone wants to hear them and/or if they're worth telling. UC is pretty ripe for non-mech stories and more that concentrate on the political or social landscape I think, like stories about what life was like for the average citizen in a colony pre 0079 and why people might have found Zeon Zum Deikun and his philosophy or Degwin's rhetoric compelling, along with how their personal flaws and desire for power twisted their ideals, how that made life for the average colonial or even Earth citizen change. Stories like "The Assassination of Gihren Zabi" would be good too, ones that don't focus on mecha, but feature it in the background while it focuses on the characters and setting, trying to explore and deepen them.

Was it ever explicitly stated in an official source that the technology had regressed?

From what I can gather from the official publications, the suits from G-Saviour are statistically advanced enough to indicate they are from their time. I do know that the RGM Freedom is supposed to be 30 years out of date by the events of UC 223 but that's about it. The Freedoms do also seem capable of beam shields but are seen fitted with traditional shields, presumably as a means of power saving because they're Gaea's only defence force and the impression I get from Gaea is they don't have a huge amount of money going into their defence forces.

The game however explicitly takes place in the last month of UC 223 and continues into the early months of UC 224 and for the most part the tech is visibly advanced.

In plain words : no. Zeon has had it course, Amuro, Char are ghosts and the rest of the characters get on with their lives.
There is no more material to develop interesting stories on. And no, telling what the 876th Zeon splinter group does is not interesting.

aside from the animation not being up to standards (ponderously slow for some) for a lot of people, many just find the g-saviour weak in comparison to the v2 (and earlier gundams) in terms of performance and lack of gimmicks.

The slowness would be an aspect of them attempting realism I believe, I think to have had 1999-era CGI zipping everywhere would have done more harm than good. While it's clearly dated I still enjoy the overall employment of CGI in G-Saviour in that it doesn't clash too harshly with the live-action sequences.

As for the lack of gimmicks, this could have been a design choice influenced by the fact it was live-action. Personally, I liked how streamlined the load-out was. It would seem that far in the future, a mobile suit would only need a beam rifle and beam sabre of sufficient power. Granted, the game does introduce gimmicks but seems to work within the same frame of streamlining - beam sabres are incorporated into the beam shield for one and the G3-Saviour does get different load-outs without being too excessive.

The Federation was scared of newtypes due to the contents of Laplace's box and how it could be interpreted. They originally appropriated the cybernewtype labs from Zeon as a means to have a countermeasure to actual newtypes should they ever start rising in number. That was the purpose of the UC Project; destroy the newtype myth by making newtypes a concept made obsolete via technology, and the Unicorn's NT-D was the system meant to be the tip of the spear, using a cyber-newtype to hunt down and destroy any newtypes on the field of battle.

Tons. Hathaway's Flash could go with an adaptation for one. The period post Victory is largely unexplored and rife with dramatic potential. A story about the dissolution of the federation, for instance, could be really interesting. There's also a lack of side-stories that take place outside of the OYW.

All Unicorn suits were commissioned by the Federation as part of the UC Project. RX-0 units 1, 2, and 3 are all technically Federation mobile suits; Cardias simply planned to hand Unit 1 over to the Sleeves but instead gave it to Banagher before it could serve it's purpose.

Hathaway's Flash relies on Beltorchika's Children's version of CCA, in which Hathaway accidentally kills Quess. Also there's not much plastic to move with it, since the Gustav Karl and the Messer are the only mobile suits to play a role in it, apart from the Penelope and Xi. The Gustav Karl and Messer probably wouldn't sell well either, which is a shame because they're pretty sexy in their own right.
It'd all be worth it just to see Hathaway get executed by firing squad though.

Yes. Basically F90 have 26 types of setups, and each of them are unique.
N-Type is the top secret setup that is yet to be revealed. It is supposed to be the next gen one-off experimental unit built for multi-purpose.
F91 is using V Type setup for F90-II plus the Bio-computer on a more streamline frame, and a mass-produce prototype.

I'd love to see a bit more emphasis on UC land warefare, primarily infantry, tank battles etc. Hardgraph did it pretty well, but it'd be cool if there was a story in the style of like Ryan, BoB or The Pacific, where you witness the mental stress and deterioration of the individual characters, and the after effects at the end of the war, like shellshock and ptsd.
