I still find it humorous that they were cockteasing the native dress (or lack thereof), yet they didn't ever go that painted or naked in-series.

Pretty much. They do go naked in the final battle after coming together as sisters and the direct descendants of the island tribe's King, but we never get to see them go naked with tribal patterns even while they're on the island.

I lament the lack of more background fluff (Ranga's origins and the tribe), and nude opportunities.

If anything, it kind of reminded me of Macross Zero, but lacking a bit more of the mysticism in regards to ancient god-machines.
