Zoids, robot girls, space installations, and laser canon satellites. Is Mai-Hime /m/ enough to have a thread?
What did other /m/en think of it? I liked it quite bit, and I liked that it wasn't plagued by having nothing of consequence happen for episodes on end--something that is seemingly ubiquitous in most anime these days. The endingbeing a get out of jail free card, more or less, was really disappointing though.
>>15769755
It was fucking trash and the first anime I could safely call bad.
It was fun.
Especially the lesbo rape andMai going berserk and biting her lip til it bled
>>15769809
>spoiler
Yeah, after spending the whole series up until that point always being the goody two shoes and trying to get everyone to solve things peacefully it was great when she finally justfucking snapped and (apparently) incinerated her best friend right there on the spot.
What about Mai-Otome? Worth watching?
>>15769926
I marathoned the whole thing in a few days and I couldn't watch more of it fast enough, but for the life of me I don't remember why I found it so engaging, I can't really think of anything to recommend about it.Maybe Miyu's cameo where she turned out to both still be around and to have held onto drift platinum and the anti-materialiser, then using it to mop the floor with the irritating henchwoman. That was cool.
>>15770007
any of the other old characters make an apperance?
>>15770018
Miyu is the only one that appears as 'herself'
ITT: People who did nothing wrong
>>15769755
For the most part, I left feeling like I wasted time after finishing it. The beginning is interesting and gave great set up but I feel like a majority of the rest of the show was spent building up what basically became a poor man's ryuki. I did like the childs but I wish more time was spent on them. Why is it that there a lot of anime that seem to borrow/steal concepts from Ryuki? I'm noticing a surprising number of shows that can basically be described as "Ryuki but with/in ____"
>>15769755
I'm more disappointed we never got a sequel to both Hime and Otome Zwei.
The Hime manga also goes in a dramatically different direction, to the point it's almost a different story just using the same setting and cast. The only other /m/ anime I recall immediately with such divergence is Majestic Prince; where the manga is more pilot academy while the anime does its own original thing.
>>15771006
>The only other /m/ anime I recall immediately with such divergence is Majestic Prince
There are dozens of examples of manga-anime discrepancies. Escaflowne, Rayearth, Lunashaft... and that's not mentioning the classics like Getter or Mazinger.
>>15770018
Sort of. It's one of those re-usable cast situations. It's set hundreds of years in the future, but versions of most of the Mai-Hime cast exist even though they're slightly different. The sole exception as >>15770939
mentioned is Miyu, since she's an immortal robot and is thus implied to be the very same individual.
>>15769755
I liked the character designs
New Mai Hime series when, Sunrise?
>>15770951
>>15775073
Never
>>15775073
After LoveLive Sunshine S2
>>15775073
Was it even popular back in its day
>>15777509
Uh yeah. It was a solid hit the year it came out.
>>15775073
In 20,000 years.
>>15775641
Why is Shiho(?) so happy about wearing those novelty handcuffs?
>My Hime Destiny
>Destiny
Sunrise why.
>>15775073
Only 17,989 more years until the movie comes out
>>15775641
While we're here WHY IS ARIKA'S ARM SO SHORT AND STUBBY HOLY SHIT
>>15777561
That's not Shiho, it's a newer character who was in My Otome SIFR if I remember right.
As for the title, they really liked doing double/triple level puns with the title, which is why My Otome's Japanese title had multiple readings like Z Hime and Meister Hime
Hell in the manga at one point Miyu had a Freedom Gundam form.
>>15777590
All japs seem to love those dumb puns.
>>15773562
I liked Mai's stonking huge tits.
>>15777590
Oh yeah, obviously her chest is too big to be Shiho. Thanks.
>>15777687
Shiho isn't a slut like Mai you know
Did anyone say Natsuki? I thought I heard Natsuki.

>>15779072
How can you hate such a beautiful face like that
>>15779145
Otome Shiho is a lot better than HiME Shiho.
>>15779173
I liked the joke of her grogger things and how when she's in super form it looks like aZeong
>>15779173
I prefer both Shiho counterpartsHime Shiho was far more interesting than the wacky Otome counterpart
>>15777579
Arika is the cockroach that killed the franchis
>>15779385
Her mom was hot so I forgive her
>>15779359
HiME Shiho was a clingy brat that only existed to add drama to a romance subplot that was already pretty shitty. Otome Shiho was a less important character but at least she was decent comic relief.
>>15779385
Arika was alright. Again the worst thing involving her was the romance subplot, those really bring these series down.
>>15779390
Arika mom should have been Mai's mortal rival in the HiMEverse
To this day I still wanted this to happen

>>15779837

>>15771006
>The Hime manga also goes in a dramatically different direction
but is it any good
>>15779934
No, Otome manga is better
>>15779865
>Haruka
>lift
Bitch please the gorilla can't even finish the bubuzuke off and she couldn't save her own best friend's CHILD.
>>15779934
It's... different. Definitely more generic.
In the Hime manga, Tate is the main character and Mai and Natsuki are both his love interests. The powers work differently in that the Himes require a partner who basically is a 'key' that activates their powers and allows them to manifest. Tate is the Special Guy who is somehow a universal key so he can power Mai and Natsuki at the same time. So there's a whole bunch of those types of shenanigans. As someone who loved Natsuki in the anime I can't say I was super into her thirsting hard for a dude.
The Otome manga is the better of the two honestly. It's similarly different from it's anime, but it's more bonkers about it generally.
>>15777509
Very popular that Sunrise mentioned Shizuru Fujino's B-day on twitter back in Dec.
>>15780771
Well she's the fan favorite.
>>15780810
Well, who doesn't love repressed homosexuality that leads to some forcible girl on girl action?

Windows of Soul was the best fanfic I have ever read

She's the embodiment of a lesbian character done right
