Do the PC versions of Lost Planet and 2 have split screen like the console versions?
I want to co-op them with my nephew.

someone needs to tell Capcom that if they did an HD Remaster of Lost Planet 2 they'd probably make an assload of money

The super amazing McGuffin from Lost Planet one that let the main character convert thermal energy into inhuman strength and instant regeneration was mass produced and commercially available by Game 2. A Harmonizer lets everyone shrug off missile hits and man handle siege ammunition as long as they have excess thermal energy.

What was Lost Planet about? I know the first game was about surviving in some ice planet, but then the second one was some kind of jungle, and I don't even know when the third one was released; oh, and there's the anime one that didn't seem to fit with the rest of the series.

The second one is the same planet but it got super terraformed due to the ending of the first game. It is basically a whacky frontier new colonized planet setting that is excuse for giant robots and giant insects to be in the same scifi setting. The main antagonists of the games fluctuate between the colonization development corporation and the planetary ecosystem itself. I don't know anything about 3

the planet is called EDN-III
it's a massive iceball of a planet, but has alien fauna on it, that survive by biologically synthesising a substance called Thermal Energy (T-ENG) which both serves as some sort of exothermic heat reaction, and as a potent power source, which humans use to keep warm and power their mechs with akrid blood.

the stories are a bit fucky and over the place.

in lost planet 2, i think the reason parts are no longer an ice planet is that so much akrid blood has been bled, it's heating up the planet. it's more co-op focused than LP1, and is generally viewed as the peak of the series

lost planet 3 is a prequel thrown off to western devs, and has weird pseudo horror elements. and is generally not well received

main human bad guys are the NEo VEnus Corp (NEVEC), they have cool helmets, and the guy in charge is the one with the biggest helmet.

There's a ton of different akrid enemies, most of them really distinct.

One of the best boss battles is battling a giant sandworm akrid, with a giant railway cannon, having to rely on all 4 members of your team to work like a well oiled machine:

defending against the swarms of smaller akrid,
performing emergency field repairs,
finding the best ammo,
loading the cannon,
supercharging the round,
speeding up the guns rotation to get a better shot,
aiming at its giant T-ENG laden weakspots

shit felt so rewarding with buddies

Lost Planet 2 is a good game, the only problem with it was that too many people approached it expecting it to be a generic TPS shootbang game and they whined when it wasn't.

When did this happen? Granted I'm not a huge LP fan and don't participate in any "communities" or whatever but when the game was first released it was bashed non-stop all over by retards complaining about how it wasn't Gears of War.

Lost Planet 2 is a disjointed mess without style or substance. The developers don't bother themselves with well-designed levels, clever triggers and challenging AI. They just throw you into a hostile crowd, hoping that you'll have fun - at its best, it's a mix of Gears of War and pattern-based action games - but it will probably frustrate them, and it will definitely offend everyone else.

Sadly, graphics alone can't overshadow Lost Planet 2's abysmal controls or cliched plot, and competitive multiplayer won't tear you away from multiplayer juggernauts such as Call of Duty or Battlefield.

That's a little harsh and misguided as far as criticism goes IMO. It's standard Platinum fanfare, not particularly fun or innovative but it presents its concepts in a cool and entertaining way. A solid 6/10 if you ask me, worth playing but not likely to land on anyone's top 10 list.
