Yeah, Heavy Object was a pretty good show. I chuckle every time I remember normalfags dropped the show just because of that one scene with the princess and the mech seatbelt. Froleytia is a top tier waifu too.

Heavy Object, unfortunately, was not stupid enough for that. It was such a dissonant experience watching a bunch of cleverly planned action scenes juxtaposed with the same tired, unfunny jokes I've seen dozens of times elsewhere

Kamachi's writing is full of quirks like that which really take me out of the story. It's great that he's so passionate about what he does, but I personally can't get engrossed with his work. Still, I didn't mind watching Heavy Object weekly and had fun with Qwenthur and Havia's superball destroying antics, but I don't think I'd ever watch it again.

It also felt like Hevia wasn't just there to look impressed: Quenther knew object design superscience and he knew regular military technology and tactics, so they paired off pretty well. Add in Froletiya covering their asses politically and Princess handling the actual object combat and they really felt like a tight-knit little team when the chips were down and there was a job to do

Yeah, I was kind of disappointed that we didn't see Myonri in the last arc, since it was an anime original and probably wouldn't have contradicted anything from the LN. I was even more annoyed that she didn't show up in the last episode montage when every other supporting character that appeared throughout the series did.

Well, at least according to /a/ she shows up again in later arcs of the LNs so if we ever get a season 2 (as unlikely as that is) we could see her again.

The first few stories (most of the animated stuff) are pretty much down to those two, though more often than not the way things play out are that the unit's actual mech pilot fights the object of the week to stall it so they can figure out and expose its weakness, at which point she delivers the finisher. I think something like half their kills are technically hers.

Most of the mecha combat is Quenther and Havier working to find out the weakness of the enemy mech and relaying it to Baby Magnum so that she can capitalize on it. At least, when the radio works.

When it doesn't, they have no choice but to get down to business, complaining all the while.

To be fair though; Quenther gets personal with quite a number of the Heavy Objects he's otaku for, and it's often used by the Princess to bribe Quenther to spend more time around her Heavy Object. On the other end of things, Havier gets enough fame many times over to have the easy life he wanted, only if he can survive his tour of duty long enough to marry his family's sworn enemy's daughter, merge the two families, and retire with his family's combat maids in tow.

Of course he'd whine about getting into the thick of it when all he wanted to do was just survive his tour of duty before leaving and retiring to the easy life. But that doesn't mean he'd abandon Quenser, nor be useless; the dude manages to hold off an entire spec. ops. team solo until a cease-fire is ordered, and hit on their commander in the process.

He and Heivia have a Cowboy Bebop type situation going where they always seem to end up with a net gain of zero. Like that bit in Kamchatka where black uniform lady was all about him being distinguished for his actions until she found out he'd looted some diamonds on the side during the mission, at which point he had to settle for her overlooking his larceny, and then he had to spend them all anyway the next chapter to pay mercenaries. Things like that tend to happen. A lot of 'well, you broke very reg in the manual and made some influential people very unhappy, but you did pull the job off and then some, so I guess we'll call it even. I'm more of the opinion they're stuck at a net-gain of 1. That "1" consisting of:
- Staying on the good side of their CO
- Somehow avoiding being completely annihilated, assassinated, or eviscerated
- On friendly terms with a number of Heavy Object pilots

They can't go any higher due to constantly trading favors, but they have managed to avoid going lower. They just got lucky enough to earn the loyalty of their CO and at least one Heavy Object pilot, and have remained at that level since.

If she made General, or even Supreme General of the Kingdom's Heavy Object forces (she already commands other battles and ultra-long-range fire support from other Kingdom Objects over tablet in the first episode), Quenser and Havia might actually be able to take it easy for once; seeing as how Baby Magnum would likely be deployed alongside another Object or two rather than left as only one unit with the duo acting as another anti-Object commando group.

Additionally, both would definitely amass more than enough merit to get themselves the retirement package of their dreams. They already gained enough merit to get to their desired posts after retiring from the military, but until their tour of duty is over, they're still stuck playing commando. The funny part about it all is that they've already gained so much merit and fame that if they wanted to defect to another nation to retire or work for, they could as they're high-value and their insight into both Object weaknesses and on-the-ground tactical flexibility is high.

A bit. I'm not a fan of the pissy tsundere schtick at all, but I do like the dynamic where she and Quenther have each other's backs in a fight. He counts on her to stall the enemy object for him and usually deliver the killing blow when he's done setting it up, and she trusts his input implicitly and will readily follow even the most irregular instruction he gives without hesitation because she knows he always has something clever up his sleeve. All those little displays of professional respect, I like. No excuse for the tired possessive jealousy bit though.
