New episode out; for the 5 of those who keep up with the series.

They blew through Tzendorg's development and most of the volume in one episode. Personally, I found this disappointing, since it blows over all the details and effort that actually went into such a machine (and Eru's further breaking of that world's common sense), as well as some fun character-building moments from the novels.

They've also made the NTR lab the Silhouette Knight Lab, made their dwarf mechanic more insane rather than the grizzled Dwarf mechanic veteran from the novels, and added about 10 seconds worth of light fanservice (Helvi/Addy river bathing) that wasn't in the novels. On the other hand, the anime did increase Helvi's interaction with Addy and subsequent work related to the Tzendorg.

In related news; the prologue of V5 was translated and posted to the usual site; with updates happening weekly. It's a battle between mad scientists as they attempt to co-opt each others tech.
>>
Karrdator Dashes looking good.
>>
Toybox V1 looking sexier than it was described in the novel (initially just a Karrdator with the flight gear).
>>

So by the sound of it this series is having the same pacing issues Dimension W's anime had.
>>

Adelecumber (Tellestarle base) and Guyale (Serrador Custom upgraded with Tellestarle elements) also ready.
>>
>>15754589
They're going straight for the action scenes and the remaining time dedicated mainly for V4 and V5, by the looks of it.

Anyway, the fanservice /m/ wanted.
>>
And for everyone else, the "fanservice" no one asked for.

The anime fails to really go into more depth; but King Ambrosius actually still has a bit of a child's heart, and with Eru steadily defying common sense, found new enjoyment in unleashing him on others (in the form of both eagerly looking forward to his new creations and enjoying everyone else's reactions).

Headmaster Echivarra especially (also not expanded upon in the anime) gets frustrated with his old friend for allowing Eru to run rampant at times. Duke Dixgard to a similar extent, though he comes to acknowledge Eru's brilliance and applying some of his experimental failures or successes into the black ops group.

So does the story go anywhere or does it stay in "otaku reincarnates as a cute trap and focuses on building mecha" forever ? Like do we get a demon invasion, a war or something ? Because it seems that Ernie will just build the Knights without a care for the world.
>>
>>15757339
There'll be a war that Eru gets involved in. They might skip the Shell Beast invasion though or highly trunicate it.

I hope they manage to end it on Vol 5 instead of Vol 4. The latter would be a huge ass cliffhanger.
>>
It is rushed but I do look forward to it every week.
>>
If we're being fair, a robot series where the main character isn't in his robot and instead spends 90% of it building other robots just to have him finally get into his robot right at the end would be pretty shit for the majority of viewers.

Sunrise will have to make an Anaheim development Gundam OVA before anyone would accept something like that.
>>
>>15757349
>The latter would be a huge ass cliffhanger.

You know how this stuff works, anon. It's not a conicidence adaptations end on cliffhangers.
It's literally a part of the adaptation process.
They ask the director if he can do the whole thing, if he says no, they ask him about how far he can go and have him and the original author settle on the best cliffhanger reasonably close to that point.

Yes, you baiting cretin.

They explicitly stated they can build these because they model them off of humans. Have a magical power source that allows them to control muscle-like materials.
These people don't even know what a transmission is, much less be able to make one. Neither does the guy, because he knows about as much as you or I and neight out of could seriously hope to make that shit from memory. Muscles don't help a single damn thing when moving wheels as well.

I understand it's bait, but I can still have fun calling out your lackluster intelligence, lack or common sense and absolute dumbness. Because as much as you're baiting with the response, you genuinely belive the shit you're sayinga and think the act of mentioning "the truth" is the real bait here.

>>
>>15757545
Well, I`m not him, but... Realistically speaking, it would be easier to develop "conventional" vehicle, using "pseudo-muscles", than the walking monsters. By the way, the mecha in Knights and Magic, literally walks on magic. Mana used as semi-perpetuum fuel source, magic engine converts mana to mechanical power... even the skeleton is strengthened with magic, to widstand the stress. In the novel, the centaur mecha collapsed at first, because the stress was too big.
And, now just think. use three (3), just three muscles, to make conventional motor, rotating whatever you need. Use strengthening magic, to enhance wheels/treads, and armor... Really, mecha just won`t stand a chance. But that won`t be fun.
>>
>>15758331
>And, now just think. use three (3), just three muscles, to make conventional motor, rotating whatever you need.

That's still escheving the need to create precisely milled and calculated grears and grear conversions, something these guys are shows not to have at their disposal.
Also, aren't you basically proposing a bicycle of sorts? Muscles are a horrible source of circular motion.

What I'm saying is, you're basically reincarnated in Ancient Rome/China and go on about tangents of building guns because centuries down the line, humanity would reach the technology needed, instead of helping them out with slightly more efficient materials, formations and what-not.
That they can make giant crossbows and know gunpowder still doesn't make them able to manufacture even basic shit like matchlocks, much less such complex and precise machinery like a modern automatic firearm.

What he's doing here is like telling ancient empires how to cauterize wounds. Extremely important discovery that would have saved millions of lives across their history.
>>
>>15758397
This. You can't just show up in 1825 Italy with the blueprints for a 2JZ and expect them to be able to make one. You have to do what you can to improve the shit that they do have the ability to produce.

How badly are the Lab plebs gonna be rocked?
>>
>>15758633
Almost a one-sided massacre; had Ambrosius not end the fight. Edgar and Di were on the losing end against the 3 they were up against, mainly due to mana exhaustion, but Tzendorg and Toybox utterly raped the 3 they were up against and would have returned to combat against the surviving 3 enemies.
>>
>>15758908
Surviving 2 actually. Before Ambrosius ended the fight, Eru beat one of the knights after recovering mana.

Other than Eru being too OP, the Phoenix Knights won because they had the surprise factor. The customizations the Tellestarle somewhat made up for its weaknesses compared to the Darch, and Tzendolg was too unpredictable because it isn't normal calvary and doesn't have the same weaknesses as such.
>>
>>15758958
Let's be honest here; King Ambrosius likely set it up this way on purpose for his own fun, after not being able to do ridiculous stunts himself like he used to.

Then also to sock it to the Nation's most prestigious laboratory that they were outdone by a kid (or technically a group of kids since they are all middle to high-school age) with a bunch of scraps in an Academy's warehouse and old Knight frames no longer even used in the regular military at all.

Of course, Eru rekindles his mischievousness, indirectly causing him to retire while he's ahead, take up a new Knight designed by none other than Eru himself, then go back to fighting with gusto against Demon Beasts and his own grandson.

There aren't many Kings who get to have that much fun again, especially an /m/-related one.

On an aside, his idiot grandson is practically /m/'s hotblooded protag. "The First thing is power. Then power. The more power."
>Eru writes down muscle-head and circles it for emphasis.
Not to mention, he refuses to take "No" for an answer, and believes he can even tame piloting a Tzendrible like one would a wild stallion.
>>
Enjoyed the latest episode. My gripe tho is the deviation of Tzen's design bet. the anime & LN. In the LN, Tzen's cockpit is placed in the horse's body, since the humanoid torso is too small to fit one, and the height of the lower body alone when it's standing is shoulder-height of regular SKs.
>>
>>15757395
I hate whenever they pull that shit. Either adapt the whole thing, make your own ending or just don't fucking adapt it at all.
>>
>>15759979
I was also frustrated about that. Tzen was fearsome not only due to its shape, but due to its height and presence.

Granted, we'll see if the height is maintained, as we haven't had a good scale of it compared to the other Knights.

Still, I'm disappointed with how rushed the whole anime is.
>>
>>15757430

Because they're not robots? And thus not as cool and completely pointless?

In the later novels when Eru discovers the enemy country has developed airships, he worked hard to make sure that robots continued to be the primary method of warfare in the world instead of letting them get overshadowed by airships.
>>
>>15757572

Yes but I don't think we'll see it in the anime. Unless they really rush things...

They really do not. The novel was pretty clear about them being at best able to harass the bigger robots unless the wearers are willing to take insane risks.

This show honestly has me conflicted because I honestly like the robots and the whole idea of a show mainly about R&D.

Everything else however is a complete hot turd, from the protagonist, to the story/setting and the genericness in every possible way LN's have come to exemplify in bottom of the barrel pandering.

And it's still technically the best mecha show of the year because 2017 is a complete ass end for anything mecha even existing, is a robot show and wins the race by being the only competitor.
>>
>>15760204
> Giant robots are childish shit

SG's are only really at their best when used by someone like Eru or the twins. And even when he fixed the compatibility issue, Its still best used as a manufacturing suit.

>If he helped them develop artillery with AP shells instead of worthless fireworks magic that would be something useful.
He only knows how to build giant robots, and even then magic beams here never really stops being irrelevant since they are plenty of stronger range spell later on.

Boys.

>>15757430
Because all their tech base is around humanoid design powered and reinforced by magic. After hundred of years of stagnation and no reason for doing things diferently, why even consider that kind of radical change? And now they've got a mecha otaku with bunch of ideas for, well, mecha. There will be no tanks.

Well ok, Hildorfr maybe.
>>
>>15757498
It is actually pretty easy to create and build human shaped frame. It is issue of powering it and balancing that is problematic, as well whole material science.
Here, they've got magic to reinforce frames, magic engines to power them and combination of magical scripts and pilots inside machines to balance them just fine.
In comparison, tanks are complicated. Sure, making a box with wheels is simple but making it more effective than established techbase is the problem - kinda how mecha are impractical IRL, a tank would be here. Initially, at least, give them hundred years to steamroll design kinks and develop tactical doctrine and things change. But then,>>15761278

Has the chinks released their version of V6 and V7 yet? I need me more Knights and Magic once Sky is through with V5. I NEED to know how mind-blown the opposition is by FLYING KNIGHTS.
>>
>>15761319
I can't really imagine a use for tanks in Eru's world. I guess a tank would have more outright long range firepower since a tank wouldn't need to waste energy on maintaining the frame, but if it's knight vs tank, the knight can hold a shield and dodge while firing away while the tank can't really dodge. At best, they are useful support units against huge demon beasts.

>>15761630
They don't really get to do anything yet as there's no human vs human war involved. Maybe in vol 8, and by then, probably every nation in the continent would have similar mecha. Vol 6 and 7 mostly focus on the R&D of the flying knights, exploring the demon beast forest, and Eru and Ady getting involved in a tribal conflict with primitive giants.

I'm expecting the author to introduce enemies that come from outside of the continent. I just hope it's not too outlandish like aliens or the God of the world, maybe humans from outside of the continent with different mech design philosophies.

Chink releases are so irregular and skywood has such difficulty getting them that an English license might actually make the translations faster
>>
>>15762167
The author could introduce another continent to fight. One of the first things he states when describing the world is that it technically doesn't have a name, because the people haven't fully explored it yet — they think their continent is the entire world.
>>
>>15762167
>>15762198
It'd be actually nice if Eru and the Kingdom expanded outwards, claiming more Demon Beast Territory for themselves while leaving enough around to serve as natural borders.

Then go do some exploring using upgraded levitate warships and lay claim to other unexplored territories while Eru curbstomps the crap out of any opposition, and continuously developing and refining new Knight tech.

Knight's and Magic chapter 5 just got released on the Crunchyroll manga app.

Assuming 1 chapter a week, it'll be 18 weeks before any newly translated manga chapters come out. It doesn't matter too much since the manga isn't passing the anime soon, and the LN will have translated vol 5 in a couple of months, but the manga is a fun read and I like how it emphasizes Eru's mecha madness

I guess the only antagonists are the foreign ninja people?

Every old guy that seemed kind of shady or to have it out for Erni (the king, the lab guy, the commander of the fort that got robbed) ended up respecting him in the end. I thought this new prince was going to give everyone a hard time too but that worked out in the end.

*Light novel, excuse me.
>>
>>
As usual, I'm just a bit disappointed. The fight wasn't as much of a beatdown as the LN portrayed it to be, and they've changed a number of aspects too. However, I will admit that the CG has looked smoother than in some of the previous episodes, and the action scenes itself were great, just not what I was looking forwards to.

Guyale was the one with the lightning flail mounted within oversized forearm gauntlets and powerful pair of short-range back cannons named "Kamtha" and very much embodied pure offense, whereas Adelacumber had double moving shields and embodied pure defense, never allowing an attack to touch his machine's body while he was able to keep up the sword play. Both still lost out due to mana exhaustion, but they had put up a better fight than what we got.

Tzendorg on the other hand, at least had its massive size retained, but they completely omitted the use of its moving armor system for direction changes (like a cheetah's tail being used to counteract hard direction changes) and for defense, and omitted its towing hook ability outright shattering a Kardator Dash by dragging it on the ground at high speed.

They did at least get Eru's flying knee to the face correct though.

But the biggest rush is actually the great characterization and dialogue between Ambrosius and Emrys. The only thing the anime did better was using Kardetolles with sub-arms so that Emrys could use them to avoid being slammed into the ground, and showing a bit more of the former king's history. But it was lacking the air of a sudden grand performance before the Duke, Count, and the palace guards.
>>
>>15775695
>/m/ hotblood in a nutshell.
It'd be neat if Emrys, Ambrosius, and Eru and co appeared in an SRW alongside a bunch of other fantasy machines. Sure, most of the Knights would be ground-restricted, but SRW has made ground-only mechs work, even in space.

Though I'd personally prefer a Knights & Magic based game in the vein of Vanguard Bandits or War of Eustrath. The setting is perfect for it.
>>
>>15775515
>how does anyone know it's 12-13?

It's the standard size for an anime nowadays.
You don't get more than a single cour unless you really push for it and this show doesn't have a reason to do so.
>>
>>15775760
If episode 8 is the entire Forest Disaster arc condensed, it's leaving a hell of a rushed finish for V4 and V5 in the remaining 4-5 episodes.

It can be done, but at the expense of any actual characterization. They've blown over plenty of great moments with the supporting cast it hurts. I liked seeing how Dietrich changed, how Edgar gradually became more flexible, and how Boss and the work crew were mindbroken then rebuilt to just accept any of Eru's proposals. Then on the other side, the political interplay involving Headmaster Echivarra, Duke Dixgard, Count Knute, and the royal family. And in the last bit, the strong family bonds as the twins' mother ended up becoming friends with Eru's family and the regular get-togethers they have.

That's not including the glimpses of the mindset of their opponents, both temporary and permanent, that the LN also went into to not make them one-dimensional.
>>
>>15775729

24~26 episodes would have been perfect. Around 4 episodes per volume baseline, but could be shifted around a bit based on character moments or expanded battle scenes. It would still be cutting it a bit close, but it wouldn't be rushed.

1~4 for V1
5~8 for V2
9~12 for V3
13~18 for V4
19~24 for V5

If it was 26 episodes, the extra two could be used either as transition episodes, or added to the Kushepereca Arc (V4 and V5). As transition episodes, one place could be between Tellestarle's development and theft, allowing further highlights of all the work that went into the first new Knight in a Century, or between Tzendorg's development and the Forest Disaster arc.

On an aside, I like the torso of anime Gorleo, but the faux fur mantle the LN version had to emphasize the lion mane would have been nice.

>On an aside, I like the torso of anime Gorleo, but the faux fur mantle the LN version had to emphasize the lion mane would have been nice.

You can tell that the animators don't want to deal with capes and loincloths on all the mecha
>>
>>15776838
3-4 years; a bit more if including the few minutes of Eru's youth we got prior to going to the Academy. Eru and the twins started out the middle school program then graduated this episode. If I'm not misremembering the LN, it's roughly a 3-4 year stint for middle school.
>>
>>15776888
The capes on Commander-level units changed to what's basically armor/crystal tissue batteries (like the battery armor strapped to the Tellestarle's butt) is actually a neat thing I applaud the anime for as it makes more practical sense.

Though they kept the smaller hanging banners on both Gorsleo and Silver Tiger.

>>15777144
Yes, though it's rushed as fuck, if you're into the finer details. Otherwise, it condenses a ton of characterization in favor of mecha action.
>>
How much of a typical LN protagonist Eru is? If he is the invincible and amazing at everything, I'll be super disappointed.
>>
>>15777717
Anime skipped his hard work for mecha action, so he's mostly a plot device to usher in new mech tech than actual protag ala say smartphone
Still, he loves his robotos and that's qt enough for many anon not to hate him, besides being a trap.

So how do they end up fixing the mana issues for the mechas with boosters?
>>
>>15778513
yeah, you do it like IBO gundams. Dual reactors
>>
>>15778525
Oh, I figured they wouldn't be able to fit two reactors. I had the impression that only worked with the centaur because it's so much bigger
>>
>>15778528
The reactors can vary in size apparently.
>>
>>15778525
>Dual huge fucking one-of-a-kind reactors, with one being exclusively reserved for propulsion

They brute-force the issue. The kid and the people around him aren't yet at the point where they could build actual efficient jet propulsion, it seems.

>>15778528
Nah, the centaur needs two because it's two-and-a-half mech. The thing'd collaps under its own weight without that much additional power being put into structural reinforcement spells.
>>
>>15778513
Weakened boosters like Dietrich's can be used, but they are hard to control for use in combat and aren't that practical for use in mass production.

At volume 6 though, they combine the Etheric Levitator that provides lift with weakened boosters for speed. It's not as explosively fast as Ikaruga, but it doesn't consume nearly as much mana and the aerial units are practical for mass production (if more complicated to control than a normal Knight).
>>
>>15778531
Its not just a size thing, even the "new" knights that Eru makes are still derived from the older ones. There's nowhere to put another reactor on the frame. When he builds his own from scratch he designs it to have two reactors from the start.

>>
>>15782319
Only Duke Dixgard and Marquis Serrati had any reason to be a possible dick; but with valid reason. Letting some 12 year old learn the secrets behind Knight construction but have no responsibility towards keeping the secret would have been a bad thing.

But Eru's pure desire to just build, design, and pilot unique Knights showed through, and so they threw their support behind him.

Dietrich experienced near-death first-hand, and the brave young soul unafraid to fight, and had a life-altering experience for the better.

The only actual dick was the twins' brother, who was eliminated from the story so fast that it was almost pointless, except for the expansion into the twins' family history and the threat they posed when they were formally recognized/claimed by the Marquis as his children.
>>
>>15783155
Yeah, I really liked Dietrich's development. I always enjoy seeing stories where a character starts out as incompetent or a screwup, but eventually grows, changes, and improves himself to become a real /m/an. While there hasn't been that much character development, given what a short series this is, we can already see Dietrich manning up and getting more courageous and skilled.

Eru ends up in SRW, spends the entire game looking over other mecha (whilst fangasming) and researching before near the end of the game revealing the Toybox mkX, incorporating something from every mecha type the silver knights have 'aquired' whist some originals get ether reactors made from defeated mosters..
>>
Is this the best /m/ anime in the past decade? I'm loving it like I haven't loved in years.
>>
Since horrible doesn't have episode 8 up yet, here's a copy I ripped from a streaming site

>only unlockable if Ernesti kills certain boss units since it has salvaged parts from them.
>It has the most powerful yet most impractical attack in the game

>Able to use a single Boss-level attack once per mission.
>Has no less than 10 Boss-level attack/abilities that can be salvaged and used once before Eru breaks it, and about 3 Boss-level attack/abilities that can be used once per mission after salvaging them.

Moeru ~
>>
>>15796197
Anon, you have no idea... in the LN, he makes a deal that any enemy his knights kill, they own - and thats just for starters
>>
>>15796485
He also was reluctant to share his spoils with the Kingdom they're helping (insofar as they needed the salvaged Tyrants rebuilt into functional defense units or recycled into new Revantiers), but agrees to a new deal in which newer units captured or salvaged will belong to him instead.
>>
>>15796485

So this except with silhouette knights?
>>
>>15796776
Pretty much
>>
>>15796776
>two SPESS MUHRINES in the background carrying a tank each
>these two chucklefucks in the foreground need to buddy up just to lift another SPESS MUHRINE
Do they even lift?
>>
>>15796841
Well, I mean, the one in the black armor is a big guy.
>>
>>15796841
that just means that they weigh more than tanks
tanks are mostly hollow so it makes sense

We getting 13 eps right?
5 should be enough to reach cristobal's demise
>>
who cares for plot right?
just cram in all the mecha and sell plamo.
>>
>>15798023
It's rushed but it's at least got a good plot to /m/ ratio going for it.

It gets kinda dull when /m/ shows barely pull out the mechs.
>>
>>15798023
>just cram in all the mecha and sell plamo.

Bandai is releasing two bare-bones Damashiis of designs that were in the show for like one episode before being upgraded. They won't even come out until it's almost over. The whole "mecha show being used to sell toys" meme is literally only true for Kamen Rider and Transformers.
>>
buy the LN right?
>>
>>15798045
>>15798035
all i wanted was a mecha development show.
not another gendem seed.
>>
>>15798023
>>15798045
nothing wrong with selling toys
>>
>>15796841
The tank doesn't squirm and try and get away.

>not him being Dom
>>
>>15797509
I think that they'll use the remaining episodes to rush to the end of vol 5. It would be nice to hope for them to finish the series on Vol 4 and make Vol 5 as a movie, but that's overoptimistic.
>>
Wew, he has a an army already. And he had mastered the engine thing too fast (barely three months).
But he is so cute getting worked up with his mechs than I can't stop smirking for him.
>>
He's taken what were basically giant sets of armor and is "mecha"-nizing them into actual mecha
>>
>>15799048
Mechanized magitech.
>>

>narcoleptic elf
>we'll meet again if you live long enough

And he never met her again.
>>
>>15801703
She is most likely a one episode character as she is voiced by Han Keiko. She did a lot of characters in the 80s.
>>
Can you really call them elves? Aren't they more like rabbitpeople instead?
>>
>>15798045
The "mecha is used to sell toys" thing is a holdover from the 70s and 80s, when selling toys was a specific goal in the bigwigs' heads when producing mecha shows. It still happens for some modern mecha series, but not at the rate it used to. Plus now it's all about selling your card games or Yokai-watches and whatever
>>
>>15803380
The novel has them with normal elf ears, bunny elves are a anime original.
>>
>>15803823
Must have been to differentiate them from the changes to the dwarves.

Does some kind anon have this CD? If so, can you share a scan for the song's text? Please please please

>>15803823
Its an unnecessary change then. Elves looking like elves is what makes them great. Unnecessary changing it would be like make a dwarf human size and calling them a dwarf.
