It should count but the robot fights are kept to a minimum so if it was a show it would probably be hated here since a lot of people on here don't like shows that aren't entirely focused on the robot fights.
>>
>>15747348
>a lot of people on here don't like shows that aren't entirely focused on the robot fights.

You're on a board where most people like Ghost in the Shell and spend 90% of Shirow threads talking about characters and stories rather than mechs

A big part of why we don't talk about Metal Gear often is because /v/ already has multiple 24/7 Metal Gear threads, it's more on-topic to post about it there and threads go faster there.
>>
>>15747348
Except for Rising where literally every fight was against a robot/cyborg, with the exception of 2.
>>
>>15744885
Yes, it is a machine. I can tell because of the metal bits on it.

Yes, but Rex is a pretty shit one considering that it only took one guy with a rocket launcher to fuck it's shit up.
>>
>>15747484
Solid Snake isn't just any old guy though.
He's a genetically engineered clone of The Greatest Soldier Everâ„¢
And not only that, he has access to some seriously fancy gear like the Soliton Radar and the sneaking suit.
>>
>>15747491
The point of MGS is that Snake's genes aren't why he's as good as he is.
>>
>>15747484
Ray is even worse considering one guy with a rocket launcher fucked up 4 of them.

Multiple rocket launchers. Fired at its exposed cockpit, whilst being ridden by a man whose almost as tough as the gear itself.

And it still worked, after nearly a decade sitting there unmaintaned in shadow moses. That's far from shit.
>>
>>15747484
To be fair that only happened because the guy that designed it intentionally gave it a weak point AND intentionally tipped snake off about it. If the radome had been properly shielded snake would have had no shot against it.
>>
>>15747463
>water powered "laser"
Lol kojima, that's not how that works at all.
>>
>>15747563
>shit design is shit because the designer purposely made it shit

That's the entire point.
>>
>>15747570
Still took a lot of shots from both Snake and Fox to break the damn thing and open the cockpit.
>>
>>15747565
Isn't it a water cutter?
>>
>>15747570
Well what I'm saying is that the design overall isn't shit so much as one part of the design, which was altered on purpose to be shit, is shit. The overall design is actually pretty good aside from the fact that it, like all other bipedal robots, become useless the second something tips them over.

>>15747673
That's the official explanation, yeah.
But it makes a laser sound when they use it lol.
https://youtu.be/z9GwJt3pHl4
Plus in rising they switched it out from being blue to red so either there was a lack of oversight on that part of the design or they just decided to throw that "water cutter" nonsense out the window anyways.
>>
>>15747750
In Rising the water cutter gets swapped for an outright plasma beam cannon. Boris tells you that over the radio when it fires it for the first time.

>>
>>15747943
yes, that gave the rays that organic look , they were the first in the saga that empoloyed artificial muscle , if we ignore the cyborg ninja
>>
Seeing as this is a relevant thread:
How should I fix the railgun's ball joint on the 1/100 Koto REX? It snapped off the limb.
>>
>>15747484
It wasn't one guy with a rocket launcher, it was one genetically engineered super soldier clone and a fucking cyborg ninja
>>
>>15747543
And then killed a mech specifically designed to kill it, while in a such a state.
>>
>>15747954

>>
>>15747742
given how wide its stance is, and how low its center of gravity seems, and those secondary feet peg things, I don't think tipping over metal gear rex would be viable.

>>
>>15747898
That's a fair point, it's been forever since I played it. At least they thought about it enough to include a reason.
>>
>>15747484
Reminder that Otacon built Rex with all its optics in the radome just in case someone used it for evil and it needed to be stopped.

If he hadn't given it that weakness, Snake might've not been able to stop it since it's pretty much immune to all other weapons you have in game.
>>
>>15747543
It was also fuctional to the point that it's MTHEL laser still worked, was armed with working missiles and its vulcans still had plenty of bullets.
And then it had a hidden protocol that allowed it to perform CQC maneuvers, which the higher-ups didn't want to use since they believed Rex was "too fragile". Hal was a damn good engineer.
>>
>>15748002
Exactly, snake didn't defeat rex, he disable the pilot, completely different, and of all boards I would expect /m/ to know this.

Sahelanthropus is just one of the many things I hated about MGSV. It should have looked more like this instead of a humanoid version of REX.
>>
>>15749229
Why?
It should look more like a more complete version of Zeke.
>>
>>15749137
What's even less believable is that the cockpit was still serviceable in MGS4. Apparently even Rex's control levers were MADE OF SUPER ALLOY Z and all Snake managed to do in MGS1 was activate some kind of failsafe system that automatically locks Rex's system down in the even that the pilot is hit in the face with sixteen stinger missiles. All Otacon had to do was access Rex's computer and it was good as new again.

The whole point behind Sally was that it was a physically unfunctional design that could only work due to being puppeteered by Psycho Mantis. The whole time he was making it Huey was baffled by why Cipher wanted something that wouldn't function.

That makes sense, but I think it's inherently silly from an aesthetic standpoint. It looks like it belongs in Metal Gear Rising rather than V. Granted, I have the same gripe with Peace Walker as well, but to a lesser extent.

Also, the fact that its design is nigh identical to REX when "closed" makes it feel like Otacon was just ripping off his dad's work.
>>
>>15750845
Well, Sahelanthropus couldn't function unless you jammed a psychic child into it's cockpit, which makes it less of a robot and more of a metal puppet. And it is its own nuke, needing to blow itself up to.

REX comes from the same Russian origins but is a functional, heavily durable war machine capable of taking down much more advanced machines in a state of disrepair and abandonment. And it could launch nukes normally. In all respects it is a better machine than Sally.

So basically Hal cucked his father again.
>>
>>15750924
>So basically Hal cucked his father again.
In the end, that's all we wanted after we found out what a dick Huey was.
>>
>>15749183
while I appreciate the Awkard Zombie joke. You gotta understand that Zeke is Closer to the TX-55 than Sahelanthropus.

Zeke was made literally out of scrap and was supposed to be a support for ground troops. Sally is a behemoth designed to bring terror by its own movement.

The tx-55 was made so small militas could deploy it, keep it hidden and launch nukes, much like outer heaven was in MG1. REX and ZEKE had a closer principles to that.
>>
>>15750981
>Zeke was made literally out of scrap and was supposed to be a support for ground troops.
I guess that's true, especially given that the scrap in question was looted from high tech state of the art US Gov. weapons testbeds.

>>
>>15750833
I honestly don't understand how people like you can post shit like this, the game and that idiot Huey says that Sally WOULD WORK if Skull Face didn't go full retard and force him to install a cockpit, he said that the whole thing was supposed to be handled by a AI but SF fearing another Peace Walker incident forced the human part and even then didn't allow him to complete Sally.

Even with all of that the fucking thing is still a technological marvel that is only challenged by the Ray, it had a sword capable of igniting ore underground and that weird mist that rusted anything made of metal.

It shouldn't fucking exist and yet it does, it just goes as another one of the great fuck ups Kojima made in TPP
>>
Are traps gay???
>>
>>15752490
He also said it needed more time to be complete, and since the AI designer fucking died, I doubt it would be operational anytime soon.
>>
>>15751412
What strikes me as odd was the fact that RAY was meant to counter REX clones, which should have had the same performance as the original.

Then when Hal reactivates the "Street Fighter" protocol you can literally stomp Liquid's RAY into submission, pick it up by the throat then throttle it into the ground. Sure, the match between the original REX and the newer RAY was technically a draw, but RAY fell first before REX gave in.
>>
>>15753399
>AI designer died
More like he stuffed her into the AI pod to suffocate because she didn't want to use their son as the test pilot.
>>
>>15753488
Wasn't that just a cover story and Ray was actually intended from the start to be AI controlled and just act as anti-ship protection for arsenal gear?
I mean, why would something meant to counter Rex need to be amphibious? Not to mention the part that it needs a water source to draw from to use its main weapon
>>
>>15753500
Obviously not given the tanker chapter and its continued usage following MGS2.
>>
>>15753699
Sure the marines developing it as an anti-rex machine was the surface story, but that doesn't make any sense. Plus, the black guy in charge was in with dead cell, who are in with the patriots.
>>
>>15753705
Wasn't Fatman the only guy that was with the Patriots? The rest of them were either against the patriots or pretending to be with them.

And why wouldn't it make sense? I mean, if you're going to make a superior Metal Gear, wouldn't it be better to have it be able to operate in more environments? The part that doesn't make sense is calling the RAYs "Metal Gears" since none of them are nuclear equipped.
>>
>>15752490
It even has what I trust is a port in the back for the AI pod, which will stay completely unexplained forever.
>>
>>15753755
They weren't with the patriots, but they were in that general sphere of illuminati nonsense and were part of their plans.
And the thing that doesn't make sense is that the anti-rex metal gear straight up requires a body of water to use the only weapon it has that could actually damage a rex, which makes it pretty damn easy to counter, especially considering that most rogue nations that would build and employ metal gears are dry dusty shitholes.
>>
>>15754018
No it doesn't. It obviously runs off of an internal water supply or whatever. Otherwise they couldn't be firing the water cutter at you outside of water like they do in the MGS2 boss fight.

And regardless, I don't expect REX knockoffs to be built as perfectly as the original since I doubt the people building these knockoffs ever got a hold of the original schematics. For all we know, the RAYs were just as effective against the REX knockoffs using their missiles and superior agility alone
>>
>>15754169
The one in the Tanker chapter drinks from the water filling the sinking tanker before firing its water cannon.
>>
>>15754169
it drinks and compresses the water.
And yes they had the original schematics, the entire reason there are rex clones is because every single design document for the rex project was leaked.
>>
>>15754169
>>15754199
also in that fight the rays are standing in water.
>>
>>15754223
They can shoot it when they're standing on the platform
>>
>>15753399
Yeah but that happens after Skull Face forces him to make it pilotable so even if she hadn't died it would never be a AI controlled weapon
>>
>>15753488
This is why I love the Rays in Revengeance so much, they were given actual weapons capable of dealing with other Metal Gears, that single one from the prologue could probably solo Rex and damn nearly every other Metal Gear outside of maybe Sally given the weapons they finally thought of giving the Ray line
>>
>>15752490
Huey also points out though that the thing was never designed for battle, it has basically no armor. Even if you use the metallic archaea to turn its amor into depleted uranium, now it's 100 times heavier and can barely move without a psychic child moving it.
>>
>>15755236

Metal Gears had become obsolete compared to cyborgs at that point anyway.
>>
>>15753978
>It even has what I trust is a port in the back for the AI pod, which will stay completely unexplained forever.
Oh, I'm pretty sure we all know the explanation.
Kojima probably planned to have the AI pod feature in the game for more than just a cutscene appearance, but Konami pulled the plug on his plans.
>>
>>15755338
Not so much "obsolete" to their role in combat was shifted. A cyborg soldier can deal with one-on-one combat and large battalions/UGs/Metal Gears if they are skilled enough.
Metal Gears like the Ray and Excelsus now focus on mass infrastructure destruction, terror, and land support.
>>
>>15755788
It made no sense not to make metal gears from cyborg parts. Raiden's strong enough to outright toss the UG Ray into the air and block Excelsius's swings. Why not make a metal gear out of cyborg parts?

>>15755236
desu the UG ray could take down Salahenthropus with that missile barrage. And it's certainly mobile enough to dodge most of Sally's attacks. The only danger is the metal archaea, which they may or may not have a defense for
>>
>>15755798

Because Raiden is an exception, he's an experimental super soldier running on tons of "Mk. 2" parts

He was experimental when he got converted, but his cyberware was a bit outdated by the beginning of MGR.
