The mecha fights are like the only consistently good thing about Ideon. It uses the concept of a combining mecha more effectively than any other show I've seen, has pretty good animation, and the only real complaints I can think of are them only using the black hole cannon once and them not spamming the shit out of the Ideon Gun when they get it

They probably shouldn't have introduced these overpowered weapons if they couldn't make a convincing excuse as to why they can't resolve every battle instantly
