Well, on Victory Gundam, Fuala gets exiled into space, comes back as a nutcase newtype that can sense people from far away and read people's movements, so she's insanely hard to fight.

So Usso comes back with a bunch of Core Tops and Bottoms to use at her since they don't have souls for her to locate.

It's really a shame that Impulse didn't have the modular ability that V1 does. But on that note, they probably should have decided if the thing was going to be mass produced or not.

ZAFT did produce a limited number of Impulse units, some of which saw use in the sidestories before being retired. ZAFT later decided to convert all but one of them to unmanned units under the control of a single master Impulse unit. All of them were outfitted with the upgraded Destiny Pack R, which basically fuses the Silhouette Flyer with a Destiny Pack as a kind of Mobile Armor that does both the delivery of the pack and docks with the Impulse itself, cutting out the old Silhouette Flyer being needed to ferry packs then return.

They were subsequently destroyed in a shadow war against AI piloted variants of the Calamity, Forbidden, and Raider.

They were buried too deep to dig out in two short years, though postwar materials mentioned that ZAFT did begin work to dig them up. Granted, same sidestory materials also mentioned that the wealthier parts of the world shifted to clean energy while the poorer parts shifted back to coal/gas/oil.

As to not using the NJCs on their power plants, the extremists in the EA wasted most of them on single-use nuclear weapons. The kicker here is that the exotic materials needed to produce the NJC are in very low supply from Mars (they themselves arming up in preparation for a possible confrontation with the Earth if necessary, thus limiting the resource).

They had already started using unspecified alternate power sources, and they probably did start using NJCs for civilian power projects after the war. It's just that as soon as the NJC design was leaked to them, they decided to mass produce them and fit them onto nuclear warheads instead.

IIRC the setting says that the Earth has been seeded with so many NJs at such a deep level that it's just not practical to bother locating and destroying them because the combined coverage is so widespread and overlapping. It's apparently not like they can just clear out any one spot on the earth, then build a new nuclear plant there and then pipe off the produced energy to where it needs to be.

Even space is covered all over with that shit. IIRC there's a battle where one of the Astray manga protagonists takes two miniature lohengrin cannons with him to use. It is mostly useless because the system has to be powered by a minature nuclear reactor, it won't run off the suit's own batteries. Anyway, in a fortuitous moment, he exploits the fact that the enemy has a NJC by getting up close enough so that the enemy NJC's field of effect allows him to start up the nuclear reactor and use the lohengrins.

I always figured that was like a peace offering to Kira fans since even though Kira does much better in their rematch he still never actually defeats Shinn again.

Plus that's not really as much a BS explaination as it sounds. Compare the two fights (as well as Kira's performances against other opponents) and he really wasn't trying in 34, spending half the fight trying to shake him, and then (only reluctantly after he realized he needed to get back to AA immediately) firing a few ineffective rifle shots and saber slashes.

In 42 and 43 he's much more aggressive, uses all his weapons, and uses things like the blade catch, or a roundhouse kick when Shinn rushes him from behind and he doesn't have enough time to pull out his swords.
