The original Garland was really inconsistent in sizes.
It would look like a normal sized Bike in some scenes, but then transform into a 5 meter mecha.
The E=X Garland from part III was the design that handled this the best.

Its been years.
All I remember of that OVA is a shot of the colony descending to earth and a battle damaged garland laying on the floor pilotless.
