For those of you who actually read the novel, what are your thoughts on it?
I like how its the first real branch from Early to Late UC and goes as far to give us some clues about the rise of Ronah aristocracy.
The inclusion of the R-Jarja and the Byarlant was a really neat callback to the Zeta/ZZ, not to mention the Tristan being the re-purposed Alex.
I also might be in love with Arlette and I can't figure out how old she is supposed to appear.
>>
she looks around 7 during the time of the OYW i would say she's at least 24
>>
>>15731910
She doesn't age normally due to Flanagan Institute experiments.

As a novel, it fell flat. The writing quality, while not the worse I have ever read, is still sub-standard to your usual LN shit.

As for the characterlization, I struggled to remember their names. Saying unmemorable would be to put it lightly.

Where can i read it in English?

Zeonic is a godsend.

I usually wouldn't be an asshole about something such as this but holy shit.
>The writing quality, while not the worse I have ever read, is still sub-standard to your usual LN shit.
It's easily on-par with Hathaway's Flash (which contained about as much technical discussion in way more material) or Sentinel (let's do absolutely nothing but introduce characters for the first several passages, that'll be intriguing!) as far as skill and probably better than Unicorn in that respect (if only because Banana is somehow even more dull in the novel than he is in the OVA).
Let's also not pretend that Gundam LNs are on the same level as the SAO novels or Re:Zero-tier adapted works; HF was written by Tomino himself and the other novels are of similar quality; that is, about the quality you'd expect of YA novel with adult themes which is still well-above the average adapted-LN of today's anime industry.
>As for the characterlization, I struggled to remember their names
There are literally THREE characters for the majority of the translated material. Each of them are fleshed out and defined appropriately (literally the confident smooth-talking soldier, the stoic ex-test pilot, and the genius-but-smart-ass engineer) so that there's absolutely no way you could mistake them for one another. If you're talking about the dialogue being unclear about who's talking to who, you need to read more Gundam LNs because they all seem to be like that (likely a symptom of translation).

Has no one here actually read the novel?

A symptom of translation? Please, elaborate.

Japanese novels in general are all like this. They don't read the same as English novels.

Unicorn was probably one of the most detailed Gundam novels to date. The shit translation that was put out doesn't do it any sort of justice that much is for sure. I'm anxiously awaiting Fukui's next adventure with Gundam. I hope it's good.

You just answered yourself.
You sometimes have to jump to the next line to see who's talking.
Also the Unicorn novel leaves a lot to be desired in the wake of Sentinel. Twilight Axis is a bit more basic but the characters are more endearing.

Sentinel wasn't even translated properly anyways. What was cleaned up by that one dude after Zeonic was an even bigger travesty to the series. Unicorn has way more world building details than Sentinel could ever come up with, and it stands to reason... 11 volumes versus 1.
>>
>>15742544
Let's not pretend more shit == better shit; and I don't think anyone was pining away for that "world building" brought by Unicorn, especially when a good deal of the story is seen through perhaps the worst LN Gundam MC in awhile.

Translation aside, Sentinel had way more techporn as well as a believable plot that investigated a bit of history we barely got to see in an animated work at the time through the internal struggles of EF following the collapse of the Ttians.

I thought it was great
Don't let your contrarianism get the better of you
>>
>>15742772
As much as I dislike Unicorn, I appreciated the fact that it took time to delve into world building. Honestly I'd rather more series took the slower build Unicorn/Turn A approach than the ADD approach most series suffer from.

>>15738628
I started reading it and enjoyed what I read, as for the ONAs I'm gonna wait until they're finished where I can hopefully enjoy a single compilation or something. Right now it's like the promise of a delicious cake but only being given a single crumb at a time.

Redpill me on Twilight AXIS, why are they fucking around in some dumb abandoned zeek asteroid?
>>
>>15744906
Because it has a dumb zeek abandoned MS on it.
>>
>>15744906
>some dumb abandoned zeek asteroid
>some
Confirmed for never watching anything outside OYW. Do you even internal struggle?
>>
>>15744999
The Sazabi was a piece of shit that wasn't even good when it was developed, much less during the events of Twilight AXIS
>>15745042
I've literally watched the entire UC series, even shit like 0083 Stardust memory and I've read all of the side material like Char's Deleted Affair.
