Yeah but I doubt they're gonna use any of the archie stuff. They may bring in some more game characters like Ray, Mighty, Honey and Sticks but the Freedom Fighters are gone for good

I've been thinking this over with my gf, and a point we've reached is that while the actual Archie characters can't show up in it, they could easily continue similar storylines with similar characters. IDW kind of did the same with how they dealt with the ROM comics. Most likely they'll go with retelling some of the Genesis games in some manner for the first few issues before mirroring any of the Archie works. Amusingly some of the old Archie staples like SWATbots could be used though.

Why? They weren't exclusive to Archie. They originated in the cartoon.

This, it should be noted that the original Freedom Fighters can still be used (yes, even Darcy). Plus I believe that IDW may be their best chance for survival, since they do acknowledge lesser-known characters, just look at the Mutanimals in their TMNT comic.

worth mentioning that any Archie characters that made it past the "Pendering" or were introduced after it are actually fully SEGA property, so nothing particular blocking their use, heck it's entirely possible that since Ian Flynn will almost definitely be in charge of IDW Sonic that he just continues where he left off from Archie(most likely it'll be a reboot, but even then Ian will probably just reuse as much of his Archie stuff as possible)
