I really need to watch zoids. I remember seeing some of it on Toonami as a kid (like 2nd grade little shit head) and I remember it being rad as fuck. Had a few Liger Figures and the Raptor one.

Built this glorious fucker about a month ago. Found it on ebay for $10 less than on amazon and it was honestly one of the most enjoyable building experiences I've had to date. If you're really hurting for a zoids kit then ebay or CL should be where you look.

How is it stupid? Something like a GM would have a lot more options to engage with than a zoid. For example, it can pick things up to use as weapons if it must, the only zoids that can do that are the ones based on apes. Wow, a GM can pick up debris. Robots don't need a humanoid form to wield guns and blades. The humanoid form is inherently weak at many physical activities, and not to mention complicated to build effectively, compared to forms commonly seen in animals.

Word of caution to anyone considering one of the kotobukiya kits: GLUE ANYTHING THAT ISN'T SUPPOSED TO MOVE. I dropped the head of my liger from 2 feet up and proceeded to lose both the pilot figure and the front teeth, which I then spent 45 minutes looking for. Do not suffer as I have suffered.

It's not just money, it's engineering. A humanoid based mecha is going to be more fragile and way more complicated due to its bipedal form. It's going to be harder to service and fix, while gaining no real advantage other than being tall. Which is a bad thing, anyway.

That wasn't the issue.

Most of Fuzors was spent hyping up the "Alpha Zoid", a Zoid that far outstrips all others, a Zoid that's almost mythical in that it can generate infinite power and IS mythical in that some people don't even believe it exists. This is, of course, a pretty big deal, and the main character is spending his life searching for it, like his father did.

So here's the Energy Liger, which, not surprisingly, seems to fit that category entirely. It acts all mysterious, saves the main character a few times, picks a few fights and wins them with ease, and generally makes the cast go "holy shit this must just be the Alpha Zoid, it must be actually real!" And to be fair, from the way the show describes the thing early on, the Energy Liger fits it fairly well.

Spoiler alert: It's not the Alpha Zoid. It's not even that mysterious. And the explanation both about what it is and what the Alpha Zoid actually is are both stupid to an absolute extreme AND totally and completely nonsensical. Fuzors was a bad, bad fucking show.

I kinda liked that Liger Zero Falcon. Granted for a CAS/Fuzor combination its rather lazily done and could have a bit more of the Falcon parts onto the Liger. At least we got this out of it even if its the only place its mentioned

I was hoping RD would take the Energy Liger as a mid season upgrade to keep in theme of Liger vs Tyrannosaurus type Zoid rivalry since Blake got the Gairaiyuki. But nope, Fuzors disappointed me with that asspull of the reveal of the Alpha Zoid. Jet Falcon can also fuze with Energy Liger so wouldn't that make it the Alpha Zoid as well?

As far as Zoids lore goes I find there's the theme of a rivaley between Liger type Zoids and Tyrannosaurus type Zoids with a Wolf Type Zoids backing up the Liger. The Holy Trinity are that plus derived from wild zoids instead of an old design. They stand out

Konig Wolf is cute____.

My favorite is the Geno Hydra VF, thanks to the Saga games. There's just something I love about an angry lizard robot that somehow attained flight thanks to the giant fuck you cannon strapped to its back.

On the topic of games, how's the Zoids Saga DS game? I notice it has a very barebones menu patch and I know enough about the story that it should be playable for me.

Okay so, Zoids evolved naturally and are pretty much just metallic animals. Then some sort of control sphere was introduced and they all lived on though the spheres. Humans where once metallic, but I guess they traded that for intelligence. Soon the humans learn that they can modify the Zoids and go on to modify them through the generations creating the Zoids as we know them now, which causes a jump in tech levels.

Basically, yes; at some point in the evolution all of the Zoids' vital organs are compressed into a single zoid core. It also reproduces those cores as eggs; which creates their own bodies out of the materials within the water that they were laid in. This was explained in >>15715766 and >>15715771.

It's not the Battle Story stuff and is probably only canon to itself, but in Genesis Zoids use a special substance as a fuel source that is implied to be some manner of geothermal energy (it's unnaturally produced at a few ancient towers to spur life on, but it does occur naturally in a few places, most of which happen to have anywhere from hot springs to volcanos around)

Liger Zero is one of the best designed Zoids for having so much CAS. I particularly like the CAS, though I wish it had an arm of sorts on the body to mount the Katana instead of using its mouth to hold it. Would make a good backstory explaining how the Murasame Liger design was influenced even though its origins is entirely different.
