The lines make it look more fragile. Before it was like a solid hunk of steel, now it's made of lots of little pieces so it just looks like there more stuff in it to break.

I'm looking forward to the movie but I wish they hadn't gone so overboard with the details. It looks like they crinkled Mazinger Z up like a ball of tinfoil and tried to straighten it out.

Actually the design makes sense.

It means that Mazinger Z got so damaged all over the years that it had to be repaired several times.

This movie takes place like 10 years after the original, so it's not far-fetched to think so.
