Small walkers like pic related have been tested by the military. The main problem that led to their cancellation were engine-related. There are also some walker-like machines that are used in construction or forestry.

But all types of legged mecha are generally hit hard by the square-cube law. They are supposed to have greater mobility than wheeled or tracked vehicles, however the lack of adequate propulsion coupled with the sometimes huge size and weight make them unfeasible.
