Finally tracked down the LaserDisc box set for Armor Hunter Mellowlink, & to the best of my knowledge, the OSTs that come with it have been lost to time, so I thought I would share them in flac.

If you have any rare /m/usic you want to share, post it here.

Bonus: There's some descriptions on the music in the artbook that comes with the laserdisc. Here's a very basic translation.

>The "Complete Stage File" of this time also includes 2 CDs beside "Music File". In these two pieces, I was able to record all BGM and vocal songs composed for "Armor Soldier Mellow Link". For the fans, the music collection of "Mellow Link" wanting to taste the sound of Mr. Hiroki Haya from the VAP Co., Ltd.: It is on sale on August 21, 1989. Since the composition of the album at that time has received popularity from the fans of those days, the composition of this time also basically followed it. "Mi Daku FUCK 01" contains all songs of the first releasing record LP, - 02 "contains songs that were only recorded on CDs of the first releasing record and songs that were completely unrecorded up to now did. If there is one who has CD of the first release board, there is "Please enjoy it as a mellow link best board"

>Although I will record commentary on each song ahead from here, I'd like to remind you these songs were under construction. Sound tracks of series works are generally recorded at the earliest point in composition. As a result, there are many cases where there is a large gap in the situation of using the motif at the time of composing and the situation actually being used in the works.

>O SOLDIER BLUE (VIDEOVERSION) The theme song "Soldier Blue" was recorded with the burn used at the opening of the main part. It is a different version by editing, there is no difference from the original for performance and singing

I stopped translating it here, but they get really in depth for a few pages. Well, hope you guys enjoy this.

thanks bro, upload it to nyaa too

You do it.
>>
Thank you so much for this!!

If you don't mind me asking how much did you spend for the LaserDisc box set?
>>
>>15703418

$180 off eBay. I've been trying to find it forever, but even on yahoo auctions it never pops up, so I wouldn't save a penny using a proxy. The single laserdisc volumes do show up from time to time, but they don't contain the soundtracks. I'm trying to track down a laserdisc player & one of the single episode release volumes so I can compare versions (the version I have is the 1995 release, & the original release was from 1989). There's a CAV & CLV release & I won't know which looks better without comparing them. Looking through the artbook at what an HD version of mellowlink looks like makes me cry, but I have a strong feeling the laserdiscs look better than the DVD release. Feel free to post this to your youtube channel, I think I'm subscribed to you.
>>
>>15703450
I got some other things to upload first but I'll definitely consider it. Thanks again.

In fact I'll probably be uploading the Tobikage OST here soon
>>
>>15703464

You're not into video restoration or anything are you? I'm just wondering if the only version of mellowlink online is the shitty DVD rip (lots & lots of ghosting on that release)

Is there a clean, full version of Active Heart anywhere? The OP from Gunbuster.

They play the full version at the end of the 4th episode, but there's VA and SFX over the beginning.

I'm uploading the soundtrack now, I have to go to work, but if someone else doesn't post it in like eight hours I'll do it.
>>
>>15703474
Video restoration does interest me but not to the point that I'd do it myself since it seems really hard to be honest.

I haven't watched the DVD version yet, so I don't know if the quality is as bad as people say it is, but if that's the case then I'd try and rip the LD version if I were you.
>>
>>15703936
I wish people would at least upload high quality LD rips for other people to fuck with because every time they end up fucking it up with low bitrate encoding or "converting" it to DVD format
>>
>>15703353
Thanks for this anon, I really like the mellowlink OST.
>>
>>15703718
>>15704001

All the laserdisc players that have superir comb filters are $300 minimum, & realistically $600 or so. There's muse players that have red lasers like any modern dVD player that could be used for archiving things but they're in the thousands. There's a reason most LD "rips" look like shit, the best players are getting rare & expensive.

>>15704113

Same composer as Layzner right?
>>
>>15704320
>Same composer as Layzner right?
That's correct.

Speaking of which, what are your guys' thoughts on the Layzner OSTs? I think they're pretty good (especially the 2nd insert song on Vol. 2) but I don't see that many people talking about it.
>>
>>15704320
So, no ghosting-free Mellowlink for us when, I assume. Okay, you are under no obligation to rip anything of course.

>>
>>15704505

Even if I dropped $600 on a top of the line Laserdisc Player, there's still other expensive equipment you would need to properly get the analogue signal to a PC. You could have the best LD player ever & still get a bad image by using one of those USB dongles with the composite video cords coming out of it. On top of that there's editing skills you would need, it's completely out of reach for me.

This has stumped me for over a decade:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=67-JXAQAocU

What the FUCK is this trailer song? It's also in the background of a Bakuretsu Tenshi episode.
>>
>>15704616
Are those https://anidb.net/g10109 rips good or bad?
>>
>>15704663

No idea, but if they're using anything worse than an LD-S9 for their transfers, I would imagine there's a noticeable amount of clarity loss from using a lower grade composite filter to split the colors. It's not like video games where you can get RGB out of it with mods/better cords. Laserdisc (like VHS) is stored as composite, so only a better com filter would give you a much better image.
>>
>>15704638
It's not part of the Bakuretsu Tenshi OST, so it must be some stock track. You should google for stock techno music from 2004. Also, I had forgoten how good that soundtrack is; Jo's themes are great.

Preserving LD shit is indeed expensive, and the truly top of the line player is much, much more than $600. In this interesting thread on doing a LD preservation of DYRL, the guy spent almost $5000 importing an HLD-X0 (the ultimate nearly 100 lb player) from Japan, before even getting to capture hardware: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/topic/31698-macross-laser-disc-preservation/

That was for a serviced X0 shipped from JP, nearly a grand for shipping, from a highly trusted seller. They usually go for $3k plus these days on eBay from slightly more sketchy sellers in Hong Kong, and they are quite a bit less in Japan but figure in hassle.

If you don't want the world's best capture, something like a CLD-99 or CLD-97 is much bang for the buck, depending on your preference for a more digital look (99) or more analog (97, bit more beefy machine less digitized).

I realize the muse players are insanely prices, but that's due to them using a red laser & playing 1080p videos. I would love to buy a muse player, but I'm not dropping anywhere near that much on one. Maybe one of will strike it rich & get a recapped muse player one of these days to restore mellowlink. I'm actually looking forward to this, the ending theme was by the same singing duo who performed some of the Terrahawks songs.
>>
>>15728411
Unfortunately it's actually going to take me a while for me to upload it...it sounded pretty clean when I listened to the album through my stereo speakers but the recordings are really dirty. I'm going to clean the record first before uploading it.

In the meantime here are a couple of samples from the album:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IklcWytdBuU

The album itself sounds a lot like a video game OST...not really surprising since the composer is Ryo Yonemitsu, but it's pretty great.
>>
>>15728854

What are you using to clean your albums? I dropped $500 on an Okki Nokki & it seems to do a damn good job. The only thing more expensive would be an ultrasonic vibration cleaner.
