You posted it. Sadly, American theatregoers don't give a hot gay fuck about mecha. Even my "grew up watching monster movies and kaiju stuff" dad was shitting on pacific rim.

Yeah because it sucks. Good mechs doesn't mean good movie.

Pacific Rim was too high level for your average movie goer or old guy who once watched Voltron and part of a Godzilla movie on TNT. It appeals to the people like Obari but loses mere plebs.

Honestly, it's PR. The only thing close to it would be the first Transformers movie. Maybe the first Iron Man if you want to stretch your definition to include power suits.
>>
>>15702729
Not much of a mecha movie, though.

It's more of a sci-fi thriller than anything else.

I honestly think TF1 has some of the best mecha CGI to this day.
>>
>>15703631
I would agree. Why call it TF1 though? They never made a sequel.

I think it looks more photo-real than later movies. The more recent ones look faker and more 'video-game-ish'. I can't quite explain it.

>You posted it. Sadly, American theatregoers don't give a hot gay fuck about mecha. Even my "grew up watching monster movies and kaiju stuff" dad was shitting on pacific rim.

The reason is : who fucking cares about giant monsters destroying the West Coast, Hawaii or Hong-Kong ? Giant monsters and Tokyo are like siamese twins. Can't have one without the other. And this why Pacific Rim was shit. I want to see giant monsters levelling Tokyo to the ground and the Japanese inventiveness to the rescue (which means Anno's Godzilla is out). Anything else just won't cut it no matter how much CG and hundreds of milions of $ are poured in the project.

>Pacific Rim was too high level for your average movie goer or old guy who once watched Voltron and part of a Godzilla movie on TNT. It appeals to the people like Obari but loses mere plebs.

I call bullshit. Pacific Rim was tailored made for the plebs. There is nothing in the film that requires even a modicum of gray matter to understand what's going on. It's all fucking explosions and who has the biggest dick.
If the film failed it's because it was shit pure and simple.
>>
>>15703672
>contrary to normalfags believe, Godzilla only attacked tokyo once

Godzilla is a giant monster, but not all giant monsters are Godzilla. I don't fucking care wether Gozilla appears in a giant monsters movie or not. What I want is films that feature giant monsters to attack Tokyo, Osaka and fucking Japan. And see Japanese people to the rescue (without the fucking Americans coming to the rescue)

Big 'if'. PR had great kaiju and mecha, awesome fighting, surprisingly good visual storytelling (on granted a straightforward story), and succeeded well enough to get a sequel.

Pacific Rim didn't succeed as much *as I'd liked*, but hey, it's one of the best monster bash flicks

The only attempts of note are the Mechagodzilla movies (+Moguera in Space Godzilla), Robot Jox, Transformers, and Pacific Rim. Of those, the two best graphics wise are Transformers and Pacific Rim, the two best mech design wise are Godzilla x Mechagodzilla and Pacific Rim.
>>
I wish I could tell Del Toro how much I love Pacific Rim. How did something so intensely mecha get produced in Hollywood? It's a mystery.

Honestly, it's no masterpiece of storytelling, but you could really feel all the love poured into it. Still my favorite movie. Wish we got more Ronin and Tango though.

Did you read Tales from the Drift?

'Cause you get both of those! (A lot more of Ronin than Tango, but Coyote makes an appearance)
>>
I'm still hoping HBO, Netflix or some other big-budget series producer picks up a Battletech license and we get 'Actually-good-Game-of-Thrones-meets-Top-Gun-with-giant-robots-IN-SPACE!'
>>
Is pacific rim real or super?
>>
>>15703753
>Wish we got more Ronin and Tango though.
That scene with Pentecost standing on top of Tango just after killing Onibaba, with the rising sun behind, was pure super-robot. I loved it.
>>

Not with Harmony Gold lurking at the wings waiting to sue their asses off.
>>
>>15703747
It helps when that production company's (Legendary) previous CEO was a gigantic weeb.
>>
>>15703837

All mechs are hero mechs and each have their own unique weapons and special abilities, and only they can fight the giant monsters with only a few people capable of piloting them. So, Super.

It's one of the more 'realistic' super robot ones and the mechs technically had production runs, but it's closer kind to Mazinger Z than it is Gundam.
>>
>>15703837
It's DaiGuard
>>
>>15703837
It's clear super.

>But it was built by some industry.
So was Mazinger, Getter machines...
>>
>>15704005

Sure, I'm just thinking some people might argue that rather than being unique or near-unique, there were five whole large runs of them... but that's just me being devil's advocate, I'm with you, it just meant they had more 'Mazingers' for awhile.
>>
>>15703672
contrary to normalfags believe, Godzilla never even went to Japan
>>
>>15703832
The only medium that could ever do justice to BTech is an anime and that's definitely no possible given that almost no on in Japan even knows the series exists.

HBO and Netflix are businesses and Battletech is an absolute cluster fuck of licenses that no sane person would invest their hard earned money into.

They got lazy with their lighting. Makes the cg look like it doesn't belong in its setting.
>>
>>15708621
They are going to be shooting themselves in the foot then. They casted Boyega as the lead, and rumors are parts of the movie are set in Japan.
>>
>>15709663

you realize this film was funded by chinese to begin with and is designed by committe, yes

They're digital film filters. They have to work harder to color correct the cg when they shoot on film, so the lighting looks better.

Instead of meticulously correcting the lighting, Just run the whole frame through a filter.
