I'll never get people who seriously defend Zeon and say that they were actually in the right. Like their mobile suits that's cool(the Zaku is one of my personal favorites), but c'mon it was obvious that they were worse than the Earth Federation. Not saying Feddies were angels, but they were better for sure.

This. People mistake sympathizing with characters for supporting a faction that is obviously malicious. You can support soldiers like Norris Packard, or Daryl or Bernie who are noble guys, while still not liking the side they fight for. It's a fucking cliche, like that one good Nazi in a movie or story, but for some reason people think that if you like one Zeek, you support gassing colonies and dropping them.

I like the Zeon aesthetic, characters, and mobile suits, but I never really understood the whole gassing and dropping colonies stuff. It doesn't seem like it's supposed to be part of the Zeonic character or ideals. If they were trying to draw parallels to gassing jews during WW2, the majority of Zeon shouldn't have known about it. Obviously, it's not a secret so any parallels it has to the final solution just falls apart. Not to mention the people in the colonies were fellow spacenoids, which makes the whole thing even less sensible. I cannot suspend my disbelief at all these flaws in the writing.

Guntanks built for Project V compatibility would have to have core fighters so that core block parts could be swapped out and to create different combinations of the parts. This was never used extensively in-series. An interesting note is that technically speaking, the OG Guntank has no waist articulation owing to said compatibility; the core fighter makes it impossible for the machine to swivel its waist. Other Guntanks (e.g. Guntank MP) do not usually share this problem.

I think a great weakness of the setting is that it wouldn't make sense for the Sides to declare independence unless there were a lot of corporate entities without strong ties to THE PLANET EARTH who wanted to lobby towards it.
At some point there are people who own incredibly expensive and massive structures required for a gigantic colony of people to exist. Not to mention a colony would require some ridiculous amount of land to supply its own food source for such a massive population without importing it from earth.

If only Zeon was a rich hippy who employed the original mobile suit scientists to create some cool engines to travel the solar system and go mine out some saturn moons or even plan a long term commune to go populate some distant habitable planet.

Also, on the 'develop psychic powers' thing, how's that working out for them?
