I've recently started watching space adventure cobra and I think it's pretty good so far. What are your thoughts /m/?
Pretty decent animation for an early 80's show.
Been meaning to watch it but my backlog is too big enough as it is.
Any news on the manga translation?

>Pretty decent animation for an early 80's show.
Decent ? Lol lol lol lol.
Cobra the tv show has such high quality animation that very very few tv series during the 80s could even compete with it. It helps that it was a 30 something episode series but still Macross didn't even manage that level of consistent quality.

It's a show for real men that aren't afraid of their masculinity. Granted in today's world it's going to have a hard time attracting sissies who're afraid of their own shadow let alone gorgeous women.

When you had Dezaki on board, magic happened.
>>15692250
It's still on Hokuto no Gun's rotation, but no updates as of late. Should still be around volume 4 or so.
>>15692122
It's rad as fuck, but I actually prefer some of the things the snes game did differently (mainly crystal boy and the transforming weapon arc), and the reveal at the end of the tv show is very stupid.
FUCKING AMAZING

One of my all time favorite anime series, mecha or otherwise. Probably one of the few anime I'd call a legitimate classic of its medium.
>>15692131
No kidding. Especially when you compare it to the quality of most tv anime from the mid '70s to early '80s.
It's damn good. I don't think I've seen another TV series or even an OVA with the same overall quality, both in terms of looking nice and being consistently fun. If I ever succumb to complete nostalgia, Cobra will be one of the shows I point at and say "We don't get good anime like this any more".
I hear it's also still popular in Japan, although I'm not sure how old that information is.

One of my favorite anime of all time, I've been holding out on a western BD release before giving it a rewatch though.I also really really like the Streamline movie dub
Love the movie intro

The movie sucks, dunno aboit the series.

A lot better IMO.
>>15692279
Totally agree.
That's why I laugh when people talk about Space Dandy. He doesn't hold a candle to Cobra.
>>15698190
I haven't watched Space Dandy yet, but I'm all for more Cobra-esque settings.
Both are good in their own ways
I don't recall too many goofy ayyylmaos in Cobra like Dandy

And yet the two of you are posting examples with triple takes and speed lines

Shove off
Cobra's pretty amoral type guy. Brushes off people's death's pretty quickly, and doesn't seem to care that much about people not directly his friends.
>>15695852
That's a 'why boner"
>>15698600
You know goddamn well why.
>>15698533
Well he's a space pirate at the end of the day. What do you expect? It's like how at the end of the Skypeia arc of One Piece, the Straw Hats were going to rob the everloving shit out of the very people they just saved.
>"Space Pirate Cobra. Wanted in ten solar systems. That nice little Psychogun of yours is worth a good 300,000 Wolong."
>"Yeah. Honestly, I'd cash it in but I have this pesky problem of it being attached to my arm. You wanna try an take it off? I can help take that fake eye out too."

That fucking Arc went on forever. I thought it was never gonna end.
>>15698671
I'd pay some serious money to see a Bebop/Cobra crossover. Throw in Outlaw Star and Dandy while we're at it.

THE GREATEST

THEBIGGEST
Its a well animated and designed show that values fun above all things and has a genuinely endearing main character. It embodies pulp science fiction of the 60's and 70's very well and if your looking for simple action and fun you really cant go wrong with it.
>That soundtrack
MUH DICK
Cobra or Lupin?
>>15700166
If we had a Lupin/Meitantei Conan crossover, why not.
Only this time we would have two awesome franchises together instead of one awesome and a meh one.

As a sci-fi loving blond guy with a big nose, I gotta go with Cobra.
>>15700911
I'm inclined to go with Lupin since I grew up watching it. But I love Cobra too.
Still can't get over the fact that Nachi Nozawa voiced Lupin at one point.
I enjoyed the Ultimate Weapon arc, but then there was the rugball arc that dragged on forever, and now I'm at the part with the Swordians and this is just too stupid.
I loved the rugball arc.

Things pick up again when Cobra gets his old pals back together for a heist.
>>15707973
That whole plotline really skated the line for me. I think it lasted just a little too long, but the finish was so much fun that I forgive it.
>>15707929
That loops surprisingly well.
>>15707973
Who doesn't? One of the all time best. I remember seeing some Japanese article that said it was a favorite in moonland, too.
