basically Zeon infiltrates the oil rig where the monks are searching for future Psycho Zaku pilots, Claudia finds them but Raven Fuu saves Daryl's team minus Fisher just as the Spartan arrives. Everyone on the rig tries to flee but are caught minus the other pilots Raven Fuu has chosen including Fisher who flee aboard a Prober an end up pursued by Atlas using underwater equipment. Eventually this group in the Prober manages to escape and reach monk area. The rest of Daryl's group fled under the radar earlier and join up with Kaufman. In the sub Claudia and Daryl have an intimate moment and he is convinced that Raven Fuu will cure Karla. Meanwhile the Spartan goes to a base to get repaired and Io has some rig time after he broke down seeing Claudia with Daryl escaping the rig together. Eventually the sub reaches the Dolos base and Daryl turns coat and flees with Karla along the infiltrated monk faction and his former platoon who didn't join the monks and were captured(Sebastian turned coat too). Daryl and Kaufman leave for the Mark II factory but destroy the Dolos crippling Zeon heavily. Spartan is also heading for the same location.

Not as good as season 1. The spacing in releases really hurts it. I keep forgetting what happened between episodes. Season 1s simple story of a rivalry between an adrenaline junkie and a pissed off cripple fit the 4 episode format way better than the space monks stuff.

I really liked the relationship between Io and Bianca though. Episode six was some great stuff. Underwater combat was scary as shit.

Freezy Yard. In the original series, it's used to capture and render underwater mines useless.

Darryl's improvised usage allowed him to slip'n'slide up the side of the fallen bridge tower and maintain momentum as it apparently reduced the friction. It also had the side effect of somehow stopping the machine gun shots from the GMs. In the manga it didn't block any bullets, Darryl only used it to launch his Acguy into the air as a surprise move so he could fire on the GMs from above.

Technically no. Other wire-guided weapons like the Neue Ziel's shot claw, Doven Wolf's wire arms, or the incoms that originated from Gundam Sentinel don't require a newtype. They always have a wired connection to the mobile suit, and can be computer controlled, which the Neue Ziel's shot claw is specifically stated to be. It's just that in the case of wire-guided weapons for units like the Braw Bro and Zeong, those are controlled through a psycommu system and require a newtype's psychic abilities.

I felt that the ACGuy scene looked better and was better animated, though I thought the premise of the Io scene was a lot more original. I really enjoyed all the different ways Io grabbed hold of Bianca's corvette booster, and the crazy amount of ways the corvette booster can hold or grab a mobile suit

I personally just hate the entire concept of "base jabbers" and their ilk although that isn't Thunderbolt's fault. Like I'm already suspending my disbelief enough for mobile suits, but now I have to watch them surfing on airplanes. Likewise the idea of Io being able to just catch them in midair non-lethally and windowcheck them is a little over-the-top to me as a feat.

That said, it was still a good-looking scene, but I prefer the Acguy scene for the MS on MS combat and that intensity when Daryl busts out that radar peg.

They end up working with Zeon for a bit, but it seems like the head monk really only wanted to recruit Daryl to pilot the Psycho Zaku. In the latest chapter, Daryl appears to have started a coup within the Zeon remnants, leading to the destruction of the underwater Dolos base.

It's also been revealed that Cornelius is the SSA's spy/contact within the Federation. It kind of makes sense considering that he made that big speech about wanting the fighting between Federation and Zeon to end before Karla's pals got skewered by a beam saber. The SSA might end up getting Io as well if both of his friends from Moore are with them. Raven has been trying to get Daryl to forget about his grudge with Io

I wonder what happens to mobile suits that are doused in flames. I would assume that the suits themselves are fine, but are the pilots cooked to death as the temperature in the cockpit rises to burning heat?
I wouldn't think so, because then regular infantry would use flamethrowers a whole lot more because it would net them a relatively intact mobile suit, but why else would they bring an ACGuy with a flamethrower attachment.

They probably wouldn't do much, considering flamethrowers irl couldn't cook tanks with much thinner armor, they could however destroy the engine by spraying flaming fuel into the vents on the rear of the tank, Molotov cocktails were more commonly used to do this.

Anything unarmored on a mobile suit would probably be damaged, but the extremely thick metal that the outer armor is made of wouldn't be damaged at all besides needing new paint.

The chest vents on feddie suits seem like a vulnerable spot.

Thunderbolt suits would probably have flaming joints thanks to the fabric covers.

You have to remember how insulated mobile suits are and the temperatures they can take. In this case, we'll make the assumption that the flamethrower the Acguy used was a basic incendiary like Napalm. That only burns as hot as 800 to 1,200 degrees Celsius. We also have a scene of a mobile suit being burned by napalm from MS IGLOO where a HEAT round is used on a Feddie captured Zaku. (The pilot notes it's 1200 degrees Celsius.) In that case, wasn't meant to immobilize the Zaku, but rather used to scare the pilot in order to get it to slow down and be targeted. This is further backed up by Czariano telling the pilot it was just napalm and to keep moving, meaning it would cause long term damage. And this was a Zaku carrying a Bazooka, so that temperature is not enough to cause its rounds to ignite from the heat.

In comparison to a heat level event that proved fatal to a mobile suit, re-entry in the earth's atmosphere (Mobile Suit Gundam and Zeta Gundam), that causes temperatures of up to 2900 degrees Celsius.


So in the case of Thunderbolt the flamethrower was used strictly for covering fire to obscure the vision of the South Sea Alliance mobile suits so the Zeon forces could fall back as opposed to causing damage. Since not only would the flames block their vision, but the smoke from the foliage catching fire would further hinder it.

As for the Dolos, unless you know moonrunes and can confirm it was sunk, there's a chance it's still salvageable since it wasn't destroyed outright and only suffered multiple outer haul breaches. And it wasn't turned into a giant coffin for everyone inside because Kleiber survived (albeit gravely injured) and was able to organize a purist force against the traitors.

Maybe I'm clinging to false hope, but damn, it would be nice to see a Dolos survive in just one timeline and not have it go down in flames spectacularly.

Zeon is pretty much finished on Earth, main conflict will be monks(Daryl, Psycho Zaku Squad) VS Federation(Io, Spartan Aces)

Billy will probably escape and go to space to join the Zeon remnants and set up a future fight with Daryl using a NT machine. There's also the captured FA Gundam remains and data which will surely come into play sometime. Unless they introduce more Zeon characters that's all that's left

From a writing sense, yeah Zeon is finished. Hell from a plot and character perspective. Zeon is finished as a whole unless the author pulls some series shit, even when they go back into space because except for a handful of characters like Billy, no named character is affiliated with them. And while mortality rate is high already in Thrunderbolt (Minus Io's current team which has been packing strong plot armor against the SSA.) you're dead if you're put into a mobile suit and not given a face. Look at how absurdly Kleiber's forces got wiped out. At this point from the current situation, Zeon exists to be jobbers. Tragic. You make a point about Billy and the idea that he goes back to space to get a NT mobile suit are become part of a Newtype corps, but let's face it, he's going to get wasted if he goes up against Daryl or Io. It's how plot armor goes.

However, from a strategic point, even if the Dolos served as Zeon's GHQ, that doesn't mean they're finished on Earth. It scuttles their current plans for regrouping and attacking the Feddies. They still control some territory. Just based on this map, Zeon has control over Japan, Korea, northeast China and the western part of Siberia. Not even taking into account the rest of the world or the map that's not marked where they a brain washing monk isn't meddling with their ranks.
