I love the redrawn full burst. The railguns look so much better. Did the Destiny remaster improve such scenes too? Because Bandai not even re-releasing the old kits makes me think they didn't care as much as about the first show.

IBO is S1 was ok, It wasn't great but it wasn't as bad as people hype it up to be.

Not really. Some shots are redrawn yeah, but not nearly as much as Seed remaster, including Strike Freedom's full burst, which is the same as the original.

In fact most of the new animation in Destiny is for the original Freedom and the new Strike Rouge pack. It was really jarring when episode 39 had a beautiful reanimated fight with Strike Rouge against the Zaft grunts and once it "upgrades" to SF the quality instantly drops back to crappy Freedom reskins.

Kind of newish to the Gundam series for the most part (started watching in release order, currently on F91) from what it sounds like Seed and Seed Destiny are both things to just plain avoid, are there any other black sheep in the family that I should avoid like a bad habit?

SEED is mediocre on its own but it had a world a lot of people wanted to see more of. It's kind of amazing because the setting was almost built to be the foundation for a new age of Gundam MSV and sequels, but Destiny floundered in a way that has left people butthurt and bitter about the series more than a decade after it ended.

SEED basically revived public interest in Gundam in Japan after the 90s nearly killed it and set the course for the modern Gundam scene we see today (good or bad depending on POV), but Destiny killed its potential as a new Universal Century with multiple entries in the same universe.

Watch with caution.

I wouldn't really call the setting that good. There's some attempts at magic good use of politics and interests between superpowers, but the entire shit didn't come from humanity's tendency to be selfish and shit, it came as consequence of retarded as fuck racism because somehow people managed to create superhumans that vastly outclasses regular humans and some guys managed to still have a colossal butthurt despite said superhumans went to live quietly in space and therefore were a non issue for earthbound normal humans and the colonies that didn't belong to them.

So yeah, it isn't earth vs colonies due political schemes, it is almost entirely driven due the butthurt of some guy and it doesn't help that everybody that doesn't belong to the special snowflake third option are pants on head batshit insane and the incident mister butthurt caused gave everybody the excuse they needed to commit genocide.

As for most of the potential of the setting, it's mostly from complementary material that is mostly ignored by the main setting, like how the dire consequences of something the superhumans did to earth are merely handwaved as being just a minor hindrance.

SEED/Destiny have varying levels of quality throughout their runs.
Both have very strong starts, especially with Destiny which is well known for its first 13 episodes being really good with how they build upon the events of SEED.

The Stargazer OVA is one of the best things to come out of Gundam as well so I'd say Destiny's first few episodes are worth it just for that.

It makes SEED Re all the more interesting, due to how it further expands and redevelops some of the MS tech lineage.

It'd be nice if they redid SEED (Destiny optional), even in Origin-like format, using SEED:Re. Involving the upgraded "starter" Gundams and a few additional custom units, in addition to condensing and cleaning up some of the plot and story.

Seed redone with Seed Re ala Gundam Origin.....I'd actually pay money to see this. Re is actually pretty good and the additional upgrades to the ZAFT gundams, as shown in your image, make since as optional packs or the environments they are used in.
Hell they could release a whole new HG line for Seed based on the Re designs because, lets face it, Aegis NEEDED an atmosphere capable flight mode.

I liked SEED Re mainly for the mechanical elements, many of which made sense in the context of things, though I also agree it did improve the story some as well.

As you said, Aegis was a very logical one, and it's nice seeing it expanded upon along the evolutionary tech path to Regenerate and Saviour.

Re did also change the tech origins so that it wasn't just Orb innovating, and makes ZAFT look more competent as well.

Blitz got upgraded to have parts that would later appear on the Gold Frame Amatu; probably salvaged from Blitz's remains instead of just the arm and Mirage Colloid.
