The Bael's swords are gundam frame swords. Only the Grimgerde's swords are made of the super hard metal that's harder than Gundam frame metal, not that it matters. You can in fact break tougher metals with weaker ones over time through wear.

And it's mentioned Bael's in its original form but that's not clear if they meant it literally hasn't been kept repaired or if it just hasn't be modified like how Barbatos and Gusion underwent multiple changes.

The Gundarium of the show is the Gundam Frame metal. But IIRC it's actually less about being super tough (though it is) but because it reacts with the ahab particles to literally power up the frame or something. The Grimgerde's swords are mentioned as being so rare that you couldn't even make a single MS frame with the stuff and it's kind of implied that it was invented later in the war since the Grimgerde is mentioned as being a late creation and it's the only confirmed MS to have that metal in its weapons. Bael's the 1st Gundam, it wouldn't make much sense for it to have weapon parity with a Grimgerde.

Nobody ever said the sword was indestructible, just that it's made out of the same material as the inner Gundam frame. In actuality the Grimgerde's swords were better because they were actually maintained and made out of a material even stronger than the Gundam frame. Bael was a downgrade that required the Allaya Vignana system to make up for it.

The Bael wasn't even a good MS, McGillis didn't think its abilities would help him win, but its symbolic value.

Much to his surprise, no one really cared about it anymore and that's why he fucking lost.

Gundam Bael's swords are the Grimgerde's swords. There was debate about this but the mechanical book confirmed that they are one in the same, the only difference is the hilt.

Bael's saving grace is that it's arguably the most niche Gundam of the series. The original Barbatos (form 4) and the Gusion (assuming the Rebake is truly similar to its OG form) are all-rounders in terms of performance. Kimaris is a high-speed interdiction and pursuit machine, but can still manage a variety of situations in each of the forms we saw in the show, and while Flauros is an artillery unit, there's nothing stopping it from near and mid-range combat. It depends on what you do suture as ripping off.
Destiny makes an attempt to show technology in the CE developing naturally.
For example the strike Gundam is a prototype that was very successful so the EA ends up adapting it into the dagger and then windams.
They even adapt the striker packs into different combat situation variants.
Zaft realized this and does the same with its zaku warrior line.
This is just one element of the arms race present throughout the CE.

Hard materials don't not break, they shatter. It may take a lot to get to that point, but when it happens it's going to fucking shatter.

There's also the question of metallurgical defects, wear and tear due to age, care and environmental exposures, and all kinds of things that can contribute to materiel failure in combat. Even a knife can foul up on you if you don't take good care of it.
