Weaponising the weird or misunderstood parts of the Eva defeats the purpose of the design. It's not an Eva if you can have 100% control of all the elements and there isn't a threat of some independent action. 2.0 could have gone somewhere interesting with Unit 02's beast mode had it actually been useful, but it just further complicates what was already one of the least interesting scenarios in the original series. Q's was an improvement because the story was at least original.

Despite losing her intelligence and becoming more of baby-mindset with the instinctual knowledge on how to fight, she is instinctively attracted to Shinji's unique life signature (something due to Shinji and 01 being two parts of a whole at this point or something) and does as he requests. However, the big-bad manages to copy Shinji's life signature in its/his desire to become one, and she temporarily ends up fighting for them against Shinji and co. But she's later recovered after Shinji mans up and attracts her back to his side. They eventually manage to undo the fusion, and she returns as Asuka and 02.
