I think you can consider the cast generic or bland, but the show itself isn't. Just avoiding Sentai's usual "and now in the villain hq" kind of scenes, focusing specifically on arc villains that fall one after another is a pretty big break from Sentai's usual story structure. Heck, the last time we got arc based villains was in Goseiger.

And then there's all the space faring stuff, alongside how they're freeing the universe/world from the enemies, rather than just repelling monsters of the week. The ships often are incorporated in the storytelling too rather than only being used as props for the mecha battles.

It's just the cast itself that can be generic.
