Gipsy Avenger sound so typical, like you'd expect a video game title with the word "dark" in it
Which saddens me because one of the fun thing about PacRim was the names the Jaegers had. Eureka Striker, Coyote Tango, Crimson Typhoon, they sound like a riot.

Still can't fucking wait for the movie though
>>
So I mean to sound like a hipster/naysayer, but I just wanna say - Avenger makes me appreciate Danger more. I never really liked Gipsy Danger a whole lot (Eureka Striker best girl), but I think Avenger is really generic looking. I feel like I've seen every part of its body somewhere else.

Eh, all I want to know is what they've further retconned from their original story material.

Like the fact that they had already quit making Jaegers and were originally putting more emphasis on the wall until it was proven useless. Then explain for what reason were any Jaeger rebuilt from scraps (or built new) after the threat seemingly disappeared.

Especially since Pentacost, who had been campaigning hard for keeping the Jaegers active, is dead and gone.

That aside, has there been any additional translations of the Femacost Jagirl 4komas? Or a full mini-manga set?

Pentacost died proving himself right, and justifying the Jaeger program to the world- it's not that surprising that there'd be renewed interest in having top of the line Jaegers after the breach is sealed in case the aliens ever returned.

I don't doubt that, but the world had already shut down their Jaeger programs and sent the last remaining and fully functional Jaegers over to the China dome.

The only way I can see the Jaeger program restarted is:
- If the scientist duo and/or the two former MCs end up suffering nightmares from the aliens, a la Independence Day 2, and forcing a reluctant world military to at least build a few reserve Jaegers.
- If the world militaries decided to make Jaegers weapons of war instead of reverting back to typical tanks/ships/aircraft.
- If goddamn shoe man had further secret dealings with Pentacost (prior to Penta's death) over salvaging and rebuilding other mostly intact Jaegers such as Cherno Alpha or Crimson Typhoon for future contingencies and the promise that bits of alien remains goes to him for black market sales and experimentation, making the Jaegers more of a PMC group rather than a formal military controlled group.

Promo materials say Mk VI, though plenty of streamlining from the Mk V.

The Red unit looks like a fusion of Eva 02 and Tacit Ronin, while the Brown unit looks like a fusion of Cherno with Coyote Tango.
>>
>>15669588
6 then? Neat. Regardless, it's nice that they're following the Mark evolutions when making this new Gipsy.
>>

>>
Everyone is being so pessimistic, but I honestly think the first movie had a lot of room for improvement, so I have my hopes up for this one.
>>
>>15669645
It did, but this sequel doesn't look like it's improving things that needs improving and it's just breaking what worked before
>>
>>15669588
They are all sleeker, with more traditional humanoid shapes and proportions... they give off more of a vibe of giant superheroes than mecha now. I know the first movie had tons of hidden weapons in each mech, but I think showing off those weapons would really help these look less boring.
>>
>>15669615
Well, Mk VI is what the schematic says, though only GA's schematic was previewed.

Some YT videos mention GA also has a limited flight system installed, in addition to upgraded equipment based on Gypsy Danger's equipment. My guess, as far as the thruster system goes; is more or less Armored Core-style thrusters; useful for forward boost charging (Tacit Ronin's former gimmick), or for long jumps or gliding (probably to deal with flight-capable Kaiju).

The bulky brown Jaeger seems to have a double-cockpit (if not split, or a false cockpit), while the red Jaeger shares more in common with Tacit Ronin, though one could make a case that it was a rebuilt and upgraded Crimson Typhoon considering the thick shoulder armor.

One of them is probably a new Japanese Jaeger; since most of the action is supposed to take place in Japan this time around.

>>15669623
If it's based off Tacit Ronin, it probably could be. Tacit's main thing was speed and maneuverability (as far as a multi-story titan can be) at the expense of armor, and had thrusters on the back for even faster charges.

My main question this time around is if the battle with be more of a team effort rather than having all but the main character's unit job after 5 minutes of combat.
>>
>>15669640
NECA no longer has toy rights to Pacific Rim. It'll be interesting to see who picks up the toy line, if at all.

Given the setting had shifted to Japan, I wonder if Koto or Bandai might make some kits.

I know this is /m/, but the monsters were the real stars of the first movie in my opinion. That's where all the real in-universe cultural impact came from, the mecha were just one of many product created as a reaction to them. I'm gonna wait to see what the new (or returning) monsters will be before I make any preemptive judgement.
>>
>>15669660
>they give off more of a vibe of giant superheroes than mecha now
They remind me too much of the 2017 Power Rangers movie designs and Halo, especially the GA.
>>
>>15669753
Yeah, I get that too. At least they aren't quite bayformers.
>>
>>15669588
It would be pretty interesting if the second cockpit on the bulkwark Jaeger was simply for weapons control, assuming it had even more weapons at its perusal that could be affixed on it similar to the Gundam Deep Striker or the SEED Strike packs, while two pilots take care of regular piloting duties and handheld weapons.

Proportions are those of a man in a suit and not a GIANT robot. The head is too large and the legs are too short. Seems to be eight heads tall. A height of eleven heads with calves about four heads long would be much more impressive. Despite all the details such as panel lines and angular contours it's actually very plain. There's no real interplay of shapes to make it more interesting.

Del Toro willingly chose not to direct PacRim 2 because he wanted to direct another movie, but the Legendary takeover of the franchise put a stop on him immediately working on it. design materials say it had a "gatling chest"

iirc the concept was it has clampy grab hands that were supposed to hold the kaiju up close and a rotary explosive system would propel the big armored fin forward and bash the target to fucking hamburger really fast (like revolving bunker), hence why it also had 3 legs to steady itself better in the early design stages

a real daredevil spaghetti at the wall kind of design, you have to go in close and dangerous but once youre there you can murder the fuck out of anything

pic related
>>
>>15673418

its pretty conventional for jager designs though since the whole rationale for them eisting is they needed some huge grapplers to fight Kaijus.

All I want from the movie is better fight scenes. First movie had some goodies but I want more, that sense of weight Gypsy had during the Shanghai fight was incredible.

Despite the initial disappointment, this is starting to look pretty cool. All the sleek lines, angles and CHROME is really giving this Gypsy a new and shiny look. I especially like the way the abdominal armour streak across the torso, like the chrome bumpers on a car.

Hope not, it's easier on the tongue and makes you sound less like a faggot than "Mech." There's never been a good robot that used that name.

I'm expecting this movie to turn into a safe cookie cutter project that at best will be a lateral step compared to the first one, and a big step back at worst.
These Jaeger designs just look boring.
I remember in one of the behind the scenes videos, Del Toro was talking about the process of how they were designing Jaegers, and that they would start with general silhouette shapes, and then flesh them out from there. Gipsy an Saber just have regular person silhouettes, and Bracer is just missing a head.
It just feels sterilized.

There's a chance that the last 4 Jaegers are a bit more unorthodox; then again, if they are Mark V and VI, they're more likely to all be similar.
>>
>>15672639
>>15672634
Their silhouettes aren't nearly as memorable as PR1's designs, but they're certainly decent.

What are the odds of us getting a 4-armed Jaeger where one individual controls the upper pair and another controls the lower pair, thanks to advances in the control technology allowing for that much?

Or for that matter, a Jaeger that doesn't need a vulnerable cockpit location and is designed to tank Kaiju? A vanguard of sorts meant to endure and outlast a Kaiju.

Or even a Jaeger that is built around a pair of railguns, with its sole purpose being to blast Kaiju held up by other Jaegers from range, where development of a Kaiju hard-counter would be more problematic. Kind of like MW's Fafnir.

Plamax made a pretty sweet 1/350 scale model kit of Cherno, if you're in to that sort of thing. Comes with LEDs and shitloads of decals, but it looks a little plain oob.

I want my motherfucking Russian love machine.
>>
>>15683870
The dealbreaker for me with the Cherno kit is that its fingers aren't posable.
>>
>>15672840
>those wide birthing hips
>dat narrow waist

I guess all those Jaegirls gave the designers ideas for a feminine Jaeger.

I'd say really high for all three scenarios. I'm also imagining an SDF-1 tier Jaeger built out of a military base as a sort of last line of defense.
>>
>>15684034
They kind of are. It comes with two seta of hands. A closed fist set and a set with one hinge joint on each finger. Really ugly knee joints though.
>>
>>15677539
Praising the Jaeger designs of the first movie seems contradictory when the repeating message of the movie was that the kaiju were overpowering the various gimmicks.
>>
>>15685174
But then wouldn't it make sense for the new Jaeger's to have new and strange gimmicks?
