A lot of the AEUG pilots lacked discipline and the AEUG also let Anaheim run their strategy, making them waste time and resources on Earth in an attempt to work on their image (Jaburo drop being a huge example of that) when they should've just fought them out in space and taken out their Gryps headquarters early on like Char wanted to. Then Axis came in and Haman manipulated both sides into destroying each other

Zeon was always superior at mech designs and production, so Feddies stole them after the war. Hizack is just an advanced space Zaku.

None of the characters ever took the fighting very seriously and immediately forgot about the deaths of their loved ones. Except Jared, who did nothing wrong and suffered endlessly for it.

It's about twice as long as it needs to be, there's shitty mecha fights shoehorned into every episode, and the mech designs in the later episodes are pretty awful.

In universe answer: Anaheim acquired the companies that produced Zeon's mobile suits after the OYW. Zeon designs were really solid so they incorporated them into their own. Hizacks are more advanced than the average GM and the Titans are an elite group that uses the latest and greatest suits.

Real world answer: Because the bad guys need to pilot bad guy suits so you know they're the bad guys.
