Twilight Axis is a disgrace because Sunrise used to do real ovas, you know a COUPLE of 30 minute episodes with high quality animation, music etc... What we have now is a trickle of 45 seconds (neglecting the opening and ending credits) of what ? It's not even a real ova. I was excited for this until I found out it was just shorts. Then from there I was at least hoping for 3 minutes of cool fights or something. Instead we got weird pacing and a shitty HG. The one super small bright side though is that it makes for some nice looking screenshots, not gifs though because the animation choppy as fuck.

Oh a side note I also started Giant Robo. That shit is pretty cool.

It was some procedurally generated animation thing, and given it did look like crap compared to some stuff game developers have done but Miyazaki goes on about how it reminds him of his disabled friend having a seizure or something after seeing the models roll around on the ground. The problem is expectations. In video games, the 3D is a given in most genres, because you're in control of the perspective, and developers have to put a LOT of work in to making it look good and natural - there are plenty who don't of course, who just straight mocap and it looks wrong.
In anime, they're using 3D as a cost saving measure. The fact is it takes just as much effort and talent to make motion of 3D models look good as it does to do good quality 2D animation, but low effort cheapo 3D is significantly less costly than low effort cheapo 2D.
