AKB0048 is his best work in the past ten years or so, so neutral to meh.
I like how he incorporates music in a lot of his works though.

0048 is pretty underrated. Solid mecha designs, some interesting themes, a few surprisingly memorable characters, good music (most of the vocal pieces were forgettable, but there were a few standouts and the OST was excellent), great world building, and all the best kinds of Kawamori insanity.

Fuck the election arc, though.

Yeah, hire a competent director like Shinichiro Watanabe instead of going about it like his usual talentless self.

He's good when he cares but he's spiteful immature and unprofessional.

He drove Delta into the ground because he instantly lost interest when the network wouldn't let him do it exactly as he wanted, and couldn't care less about making it good as a result.

He inserted his crazy ideas at the end of Evol, and then had the gall to tell the fanbase they should think what he wants them to think (specifically that Mikono is great and Zen was above everyone and wasn't to blame for anything)

He's a hack director who doesn't deserve to be in charge of Macross. As a mecha designer he's pretty good though.
