Have you heard about the Tragedy of Bashtarlle?

I personally enjoy his style (and it doesn't apply to everything he has done - see Tetsujin 28) but some find it a bit predictable

It's never explained.

The manga that was running at the same time as the OVA had Yomi as the leader of the IPO, which could mean a simple role-switch or could mean something deeper. But that manga changed a lot of stuff from the OVA, so who knows.

Honestly I can buy original Babel II as a villain anyway. Kid is stupidly overpowered and verges dangerously close to 'amoral asshole' constantly.

What would have happened if the Big Bang Punch landed?
>>
>>15653026

No more Genya, no more Eye of Volger, and no more oxygen on Earth.
>>
>>15653028
It would have re-destroyed Bashtarlle and killed everyone there too wouldn't it?
>>
>>15653029

Chief Chujo was a good several miles away from the plant when he attempted the punch. St. Abbay would have been relatively safe, or at least suffered some degree of collateral damage.
>>
>>15653034
But if we take the example we got of a Big Bang Punch where Chujo got teleported away before really doing it the explosion should be massive enough to reach maybe 6-7 miles.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6pAdFOUDmw
>>
>>15653036

When you put it like that then the plant probably would have taken a massive hit just to destroy the Eye of Volger. Heavily damaged, but perhaps functional no less.

Tell me about Babel II. Who is that kid and how OP is he?
>>
>>15654234
That kid is Koichi (last name varies depending on the version) he's the reincarnation of Babel an alien who came to Earth eons ago and tried to help uplift human civilization. He fights against a powerful psychic named Yomi who commands armies of monsters, robots, psychics, etc (think 009).

As Babel II he has access to a supercomputer in the Tower of Babel and three guardians. A titanic Rodan-like bird known as Ropross, a morphogenic creature named Rodem and a giant robot named Poseidon.

In addition to that, Babel II has incredible psychic powers, psychokinesis, telepathy, teleportation, etc, etc, depending on the show.

So, yeah, he's pretty OP all-in-all.
>>
>>15654342

Thanks. Why is he an asshole? And why is Yomi fighting him?
>>
>>15649538
In the manga versions of Giant Robo OVA, Babel's rival is the leader of the IPO.

So there's the implication that the true nature of the IPO and the BF Group isn't what it seems to be.

Within the context of the OVA, however, it's just Chief Chujo who's in charge.

I don't recall if he references having any superiors, but I would assume that he's not the highest level within the organization.

I enjoyed this a lot, makes me want to watch G Gundam since it's the same director/writer. Is it as fun?
>>
>>15656772
G Gundam's much more fun because it's not trying to be as artistic or somber as Giant Robo.

But if you want my honest opinion, Shin Mazinger is Imagawa's most entertaining work. The Mazinger setting really seemed conducive for the man to just let loose and be as crazy as possible. Feels like DP gave him a lot more creative freedom than Sunrise did with Gundam
