Gundam Newtypes

Mild psychic and precognitive powers combined with heightened spatial awareness and multitasking skills. It isn't something that an individual transforms in to but an adaptation emerging across the human race as more people spend their whole lives in space. They just become more aware of it as they're put in stressful situations, and mobile suit piloting greatly benefits from the increased spatial awareness, reflexes and multitasking.
Also the gundams themselves don't really have anything to do with it, except in the case of machines that are specifically designed to interface directly with the pilot's brain.

If I had to explain what a Newtype was in one sentence I'd say they're a person who has the closest thing to objective perception you can achieve.

They can perceive other people's emotions, intent, memories,strategies, thoughts, etc without misconception.

The only time they've ever actually rigidly defined it was in AWGX and the definition was "a new word for something that's always been there". Even in UC they're clearly not any kind of next step in mankind's evolution because 10,000 years later space colonists are still the same regular kind of human we have today. There are occasional people with extraordinary abilities, and occasionally there are extreme circumstances that make those rare people really stand out. The One Year War was basically the most extreme circumstances that humanity has ever been in, so it makes sense that people with uncanny abilities would seem to be advancing when you're looking at it from the perspective of everyone else dropping like flies. Also the fact that the governments on both sides were funneling a considerable amount of resources into researching how to best exploit the rare abilities of these rare people so it's a short mental step from "the next big thing in warfare" to "the next big thing in humanity".

Newtypes are...probably not the next step in human evolution. Probably. It's implied at some points that they're something that humanity has always been capable of, and it's just now that it's becoming common for people to awaken to their abilities. That might be because of the conflicts of the Universal Century, it might be because of adaptations for living in space, it might be because of Minovsky Particles, no one really knows.

As for what Newtypes can do, it's mostly minor precognition and telepathy. A Newtype might sense an attack before it happens and dodge it, or be able to feel someone's emotions without any physical cues of what they are. Stronger Newtypes seem to be capable of full-on telepathy, reading minds or even controlling the wills of others. At the very highest levels, augmented by special machines like the bio-sensor or psycoframe, Newtypes can outright violate the laws of physics. Move objects with their minds, dissolve matter into nothingness, call on the ghosts of the dead to empower their mobile suits, all sorts of crazy things that make no sense.
