Macross 7 has problems by virtue of being a 50 episode tv series (the only one in the Macross franchise up to now) but it steps all over Delta and its stupid anemic characters, to say nothing of the music. As for the fights, the final episodes of Macross 7 are EPIC, they fly so high not even Frontier has reached that level and they got very close. Delta's ending by comparison is what ? Meh ? You could almost miss it if you weren't paying attention.
In other words you're trying to compare Canard laque (Macross 7) with fried chicken (Delta). Fried chicken is gonna lose every single fucking time man.

I think you're incredibly wrong about that, Macross 7 is quite possibly the most hotblooded mecha show of all time. It just goes about it in a different way than usual. Basara does not yell passionately about the virtues of truth, justice and protecting his loved ones. He yells passionately about being able to sing. In every episode. And by god, does he want you to listen whether you want to or not. His actual goal seems to be to make everyone in the galaxy hotblooded through the power of his rock and roll.
