***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

== THICK MS GROUPBUILD ==

Build a kit of your choice that's heavily armored, and thick in the thighs/arms/torso/general area. Examples include:
>Dom + Dom Variants
>The O
>Virtue/Seravee Gundams
>Gusion/Man Rodis
>Full Armor gundams (If they're heavily armored, and not guns strapped everywhere like the FA Unicorn)

Non-Bandai kits are allowed, so feel free to whip out a Frame Arms kit or something and work with that as long as you make it thicc as fuck.

Start Date: 6/15
End Date: 8/31
>>
>>15636813
Good work, you made that shitty kit look like a decent poster.

Aren't the Nemo and Byarlant both Zeta-era suits? There's no more of a tech gap than there is between a Marasai and the Gaplant. One's a mass-produced MS, the other is some technology demonstrator/elite shit.
>>
>>15636969
I was always ass-pained that the Zolo didn't get a kit in the old 1/144 V line because it's one of the first and most prominently used MS in the series.

Yeah seems like it. Not a fan of the arms myself. Do like the skull looking head tho.
>>
>>15636969
The entirety of ZAFT's grunts could use some modern kits, but Non-UC grunts don't get shit after their series has run its course.

I just want a HGCE GINN/CGUE/DINN/GuAIZ.

From looks of it Dantalion has a lot of customization potential for how compact it is.
>>
Should I go with trimming a generic polycap's pegs into a rectangularish shape to match the slot inside a plastic part, and then make up the difference/secure it...

...or is it more structurally secure just to find an actual replacement polycap that slots in?

(The difference between the two options is can potentially be $20, don't ask any further about that point. )

Anything from Victory Gundam or F91 that aren't the main lead Gundams, to be honest.

>>
Alright, so what's the preferred topcoat to use here? I don't like using anything acrylic based because it jams up my airbrush, plus I use acrylic paints, so no good there. Is Alclad II Klear Kote worth picking up, or should I get something from a can and empty it into a bottle?

It's not really surprising since the kits require a bit more effort than gunpla. Plus Ma.K isn't super popular like Gundam.

Depends, what kind of clear coat are you looking for? Alclad flat is nice but their gloss is enamel so you can't do enamel washes on it (which is why they have acrylic aqua gloss as well). They come prethinned, and I'd highly advise making sure to wipe the lid grooves off thoroughly after using them or the lids can get glued shut and you basically have to cut apart the cap to get them off again.

I personally like mr.color gloss and flat. They are very thick out of the jar (the flat looks like fresh cum) but thin them out with mr.color leveling thinner and you get a beautifully smooth finish.

Wear a respirator for all these options.

Pic related is alclad flat.
>>
>>15637470

Why potentially $20 tops?

FAG-use, flesh-colored spare poly caps that have specific slots and pegs, also middleman fees, Taobao, and the like.

You're right of course, but after having these threads open for like two years straight I'd have expected to see them mentioned at least a few times.
I'm getting the Groserhund for now, but I'll probably have to practice weathering and army patterns before I paint it as I've mostly just done clean looking gunpla.

Indeed. Thanks to that, not only is this kit stable but it really has some fantastic possibility. It's too bad some of its potential gets held back by the back wings. And yes I've heard the horror stories of the RG. I was about to get that before I ran into this kit in my local weeb store. I was also thinking of getting the MG 2.0 but the fact that it can't stand well turns me off. I think I'll wait for a 3.0 or Ver Ka.

Nah, that's just first model syndrome. As you build more you'll improve, and eventually the improvements will be sorely noticeable. When I got over the initial hump I realized that my models were significantly stronger and tighter at the joints than any model I had completed before that. My HG 00 Seven Sword is pretty solid because of this, the only time there's any weight issues it centers around the GN Buster Sword, but that's only in some poses that overextend the arms.

That paint job looks really clean. Something I myself always run into is that when I do a pannel wash and then clean up the exces with a qtip, I have strands from the qtip getting stuck to the kit or slight smearing from the exces paint.

There seems to be none of that on your kit.
>>
>>15642739
I use tamiya's enamel wash and wipe them with q tips slightly wet with enamel thinner if that helps although that happens to me too when i accidentally apply too much paint. if it flows nicely throughout the lines with a small drop then i can typically clean the excess without problems

Another thing i found to make that happen is when my paint raises the panel lines to the point where i can't gently slide the q tip across the surface without wiping the paint inside away too
>>
So I have a gold leaf tamiya marker. What is the best way to actually use it to paint stuff like V-fins and Lupus Rex's fingers?

Finally finished my first serious attempt at painting a kit. Almost everything that could've gone wrong happened. Didn't help that I went from Tamiya cans then hand and airbrush when it arrived. A lot of fixing up and retouched and still easily noticeable mistakes. I just posted this because I promised myself to let myself get criticized till I get good. A good take from this is what one anon said that painting a kit is 90% prep.

Not telling you to be a jew about it, but if they're local or near you, they're more than likely to compensate you in some way for this. Obviously you don't mind as much, but it's more or less illegal to sell a customer something under the pretense that they're getting Item A but you send them, on purpose or accident, Item B.
Definitely let them know, as a business it's highly unprofessional to let something like this happens.

It works out a little cheaper to get them from a japanese site like Hobbylink Japan (Good selections, good prices, good stock), Amiami (pricer shipping but mostly like Hobbylink) and Mandarake (all second hand stuff, but great prices, plus there's a lot of rarer bits on there too.)

>>
>>15645278
Well what type of paint were the sprays? If they were acrylic it will work, if they were lacquer or enamel which are the common can types you will need appropriate lacquer thinner or enamel cleaner like mineral spirits. And always prime, it saves a lot of hassle and makes the colors go on easy and scratch less easy. Topcoat too.
>>
>>15645437
After having built EVERY available scale of banshee (I have an unhealthy addition(, I can easily say that the MG is the worst by a country mile. With that said though, if you really want a banshee MG it can be pretty serviceable. The biggest problem I found was with the pegs being too shallow on the shoulder and ankle armor which meant they are pretty prone to popping off if you so much as look at it funny. I'll probably get a lot of (you)s for this but honestly the only solution I had for fixing the ankle armor was to glue them in place, hardly a big issue though since it doesn't hinder the transformation. The feet are total dogshit though but again, if you use an action base with it it's negligible. It's just one of those kits where you have to make a ton of compromises just to build the damn thing.

The manager itself is great, it does suffer from having trouble holding up the armed armor shield and the larger beam magnum due to the weight of the revolving launcher. In the end I ended up putting it in the novel loadout with the shield and beam magnum just because its arms would sag down every time you tried to pose the magnum. Now the LEDs are a different kettle of fish altogether. Trying to get a wire into the backpack and then fit the backpack on to the body is an exercise in tedium, same goes for the head. The wire just loved to pop out of the backpack/head as to placed it onto the joint. Since its my only pg it certainly was a challenge, but it does look great, the leds react really well at night and having the option of novel/norn parts is really nice, not to mention if you want the original ova banshee but don't want to be jewed by p Bandai, daban did a copy of those which is about 1/3 the price.

Does anyone have any experience with the Kotobukiya line of Cyber Troopers kits? All I know is they're 1/100. I've had my eye on the Viper II for a while now and I want to know if it's worth buying. I loved the game, still do despite how dated it looks, and would like a few kits to mix it up a little. I'm worried about fitment and plastic quality. I'm not spending $60+ on something that is going to crumble to pieces or has casting problems that people just overlook because of reasons.

I haven't built it myself but I've been eyeing it for a while and generally I haven't heard many issues. The only prevalent problem is the dragon momoko third party hands that are similar to the mg 3.0 hands except they're really loose. This isn't much of a problem though because all dragon momoko kits tend to come with at least 3 pairs of hands.
>>

>>
I don't have a camera good enough to take a picture but how the fuck are you supposed to remove nubs without having the entire piece turning dulled and scratched up? I cut the pieces off the runner far enough away that I could come in with an exacto knife and shave them off real close to the piece, yet after sanding AND buffing the piece still looks scuffed and there is clear discoloration where the nub was. This is my fourth kit and it still looks awful so despite watching probably hours worth of video there has to be something I'm not getting.

>they're stress marks that are noticeable from multiple feet away
>with an exacto knife
This is your problem. Using an exacto knife may work for a lot of people, but not for everyone. Personally for me using a knife leaves me with stress marks/gouges (might be the knife, might be the user)

I suggest you try using a file and sand paper and se how that works for you. Do as in pic related and see how that works for you. I know it works for me. You'll still have discoloration, but like the other anon said it's almost impossible not to get that.

Painting is always a good next step if you are willing to give it a go, but for now try the file instead of a knife.
>>
>>15646632

I'm too clumsy with the file and always sand a bit in the wrong area as well as where I actually want to.

I use godhands -> xacto with #17 blade -> sand

Sometimes I do use a file, but only the round kind and if I can't really do it with the other tools.
>>
>>15646632
I followed this and it ended up as the cleanest piece I've ever gotten. Might just be a fluke because it's a dark grey piece and usually the worst offenders are red and blue pieces, but thank you. I only wish I could retroactively go back and do the other ones I already mangled with nippers+exacto.

There's a reason why those MSV kits are only like $6 bucks. you should start out on the Zaku Sniper first if this is your first time doing this kind of thing
>>
>>15648138
The Zaku Sniper is a bit more complex of a kit, but I've built a couple of jet models before. If I build the GM unpainted, I'd need to take it apart to paint it, wouldn't I?

1 more batch after this and it's done.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone gotten their shipping invoice from SamuelDecal for the CuteCube Woundwort yet? I've never ordered from him before but the lack of a reply from the multiple emails I've sent is pretty annoying. I don't think I'll be ordering from him again in the future.

Not yet. And yes, he's always been slow and hit or miss at responding. Hes a popular decal and middleman service but he's also a one man operation.

There was this email we got on May 31. I just took it as him saying that he would accepting payments for shipping, so I sent him the money through PayPal. Left him an email to let him know that I'd done so, and he replied shortly after.
Haven't gotten an email saying it's been shipped yet, though.

I got that one as well, I replied to it with basically the same thing, sent the payment and all that. No reply from him at all since.

Kotobukiya or Bandai for an EVA-01 kit? I've heard Kotobukiya is a lot higher quality, but I really don't like the rebuild design very much.
>>

looks great, dont use actual black

Kotobukiya released a TV version EVA-01 a few months back. Proportions seem a bit leaner than Bandai's (especially the shoulder pylons).
