Just finished this anime. I'm shocked how good it was. Multi-layered and memorable characters, lots of subtlety and use of inferred emotion, fascinating set-pieces that go along with numerous simultaneous sub-plots... Extremely believable characters that highlight the contradictory nature of humanity... Just a very genuine, empathetic, and thoughtful work of art. A person aware of their own emotions and in touch with other human beings would truly love it.
What do you love about Zeta Gundam?
>>15634827
Gabthley.
>>15634827
I only like it because the protagonist is a cute girl.
The last 5 episodes were pure mecha kino.
>>15634827
No, it kind of sucks and the characters acted like retards.
>>15634887
Just like real life
>>15635059
And that makes for poor television.
If I want to watch retards being retards I can just go to work, I don't want to come home to it too.
Zeta was well written anime that didnt have to rely on moe females doing quirky things, like all anime today does.
The mecha design was great as well, probably the best mecha designs of any Gundam series.
>>15635090
Can't you afford a mirror at home?
>>15635153
Fucking rekt.
>>15635136
>like all anime today does.
Oh fuck off.
>>15634827
It gave us the Baund Doc, the most elegant of mobile suits. And the Psyco Gundams, Barzam, Marasai, Hyaku-Shiki, Rick Dias... I think most of my favorite ms' are from Zeta.
>I want to have a puru time everyones a noble minddddd
That song was my shit
>>15635346
Zeta had good shit. Titans knew how to make a damn fine mobile suit.
>>15635090
t. moeshitter
I dug all of it! But one unsung hero (pun completely intended) was the score by Shigeaki Saegusa. So much so that I paid more than I should to get import soundtracks for his Gundam osts. (Minus zz... screw that 80's synth crap!)
>>15634827
No matter what I dislike about Zeta I'll always love the mecha designs.
i finished it a while ago too, and while i agree with all of what you said, i couldn't help but feel like so much of the plot was just arbitrary. So much seemed to happen for no good reason at all.
>What do you love about Zeta Gundam?
Nothing.
For starters, Katz is the worst character in any piece of fiction.
>>15636003
I felt bad for him when hedied.
>>15635277
But its true. Show me example of good modern anime without moeshit. I genuinely want to know if i miss it.
>>15636003
Kid who discovers he has superpowers and is still naive and idealistic fails to change the world, requires babysitting and saving despite grand ideas, and dies pointlessly.
If he had a happy ending, he'd be bad, but he had consequences for how shit he was. Same for Jerid's obsessive personal revenge during a war.
>>15636459
Kamille and Jerid really were the antithesis of each other. They both started out with personal grudges, but Kamille was able to let go of them and develop strong pacifistic ideals while Jerid became consumed by them.
>>15636328
There's... uh... oh...
Jojo? Jojo is new, right?
>>15636470
It has no moeshit, yeah, true.
Being good however is based on other's people perspective.
>>15636328
Is fate/zero modern?
Apocrypha might fit the bill when it comes out.
>>15636328
Of course what is good and isn't is subjective, but I'll give it a shot.
Space Dandy
Mononoke
Ping Pong the Animation
House of Five Leaves
The Tatami Galaxy
Sadly they aren't really mecha, but not moe stuff either.

There have been numerous undisputable masterpieces in robot anime, such as the strikingly realistic classic Armored Trooper Votoms or its fantasy counterpart Escaflowne. Zeta Gundam will not join their ranks; its surface is too generic, its presentation too provocative and its messages too obscure. Its take on the abysmal is an illumination in one person’s despair, but a paroxysm of another’s perversion. It will remain underground – treasured by the most avant-garde among intellectuals for its edifying if horrifying insight into the fundaments of human morality. Philistines and self-proclaimed critics alike will shun Zeta Gundam, but you can’t fault them for that. It takes wisdom to appreciate its subtleties, and courage to side with the unpopular opinion. Sed domi maneas paresque nobis novem continuas fututiones.
Superficially, Zeta Gundam appears to be a show which caters to the most proletarian among men; aloof critics dismiss it as such often without a second thought. As complacent as these self-proclaimed "birthers of misfortune" are, they fail to realize that Zeta Gundam is a cult classic, a chef d'oeuvrea buried under false preconceptions and unfounded criticism. This gem is hidden because it does not shine; it is buried because its tone is that of abyssal black. Zeta Gundam pries into to the darkest corners of our subconscious, the most visceral of our cognition, the most carnal of our urges, and the most primal of our instincts.
As brilliantly put by Cattalus, "Pedicabo ego vos et irrumabo"; to describe the artistic qualia of Zeta Gundam would be to describe music to the deaf, color to the blind or beauty to the philistine. The painting speaks for itself, and it is up to the player to fully absorb its depth. Its sublimity will ever be debated yet always remain objectively irrefutable; the fundamental insight it provides into human and perhaps animalistic nature may shape the basis of moving pictures for centuries to come.
>>15636670
>it is up to the player to fully absorb its depth
>player
You done fucked up.
>>15636479
>there are other Fatefags on /m/
My nigga
>>15636701
Good to see you too
While I really want to say Zeta is my favorite /m/-core series it did have some slow parts and was initially a bit hard to get into.
Episodes 46-49 were godtier and episode 50 threw me for a loop; at first I was just apathetic to it but after a bit I saw its brilliance.
ZZ is way fucking different (but still very enjoyable) from the get-go, I can't believe its still Tomino directing it.
>>15636501
>Space Dandy
>no mecha
I'm sorry?
>>15636701
Have you seen that /m/ anime with a case of same-VA-syndrome where Saber is a raging psycho lesbian, Sakura is the cause of all troubles again and Tohsaka Rin actually pleases old men for money?
>>15636726
Doesn't immediately sound familiar but never enjoyed Fate for the waifus anyways.
Kiritsugu and Gil temporarily turned me into a husbandofag
ZZ is miles better.
Z only has autistic characters that act like robots.
>>15634827
I see this by people who praise the show but never see anything to make me agree or see their point. Especially when it comes to characters. Characters who go back and fourth in development. I didn't find Fa and Kamile going through the same bs episode after episode, or Katz learning a lesson about fucking up and then doing, the same thing with Fa. I didn't care about Kamille going from crush to crush depending on the episode and his newtype thing with Four. I don't find characters being unreasonable interesting because it's realistic not when most of them act like that.
The mech design in this show is top notch though.
>>15636479
>zero
>not moeshit
>ilya, iri, loli rin, waber and fucking saber
>apocrypha
>not moeshit
>mordred, fran, fiore, jack, astolfo
>Gundam Sentinel being "canon" to the Zeta movies
Gaza-E showing up. "IF" ZZ gets the movie treatment, I hope it gets nice MS cameo like this
>>15634827
I'm so glad my posts about Zeta Gundam often become copypastas.
Thanks OP :D
Zeta sucks. Writers played fast and loose with the plot and some fights dragged on forever. Pacing is terrible.
>>15634827
>a person aware of their own emotions and in touch with other human beings would truly love it
That's the problem. People on /m/ are two autistic to fulfill either of those things.
On a non trolling note
How are the Zeta remasters? Are they significantly better than the DVD releases? I had a look at the Gundam.Info youtube versions, the OP looks fucking amazing but it looks like they didn't put the same effort into the actual episodes, they're still somewhat blurry. Is it all like that? What are the blurays like?
>>15635136
Instead it relied on idiotic women and children doing dumb things to advance the plot.
>>15637571
No, it relies on the viewer to not be autistic like you
Oh my Zeon nen!
>>15640080
what does quadra vagina have to do with zeon?
>>15640081
I couldn't find another two-syllable word that described Char.
>>15636003
I agree except you forgot the part where he was completely right about how Haman was going to fuck them over.
>>15634827
The ending was honestly the most emotionally draining thing I have watched in a while. Zeta overall is really strong, and as a result it's my favorite Gundam series.
>>15634827
It nails down the Space opera element perfectly which is why it's the best Gundam series. There is nothing deep, insightful or interesting about it, it's a melodrama in space.
Best mecha designs in the franchise though.
>>15640662
you just have bad taste
>>15642403
He is absolutely right.
>>15634827
Zeta is good
EVA and TTGL are pure shit.
That's all.
WHY WON'T ANYONE ABSORB ME!?
>>15643775
If she wasn't about to die, she could absorb some of me.
>>15634827
>subtlety
>main character incites a riot, joins a rebel faction, has his parents murdered, and steals a fucking gundam because some guy calls him a girl
>Main character has multiple psychotic episodes
Yeah... Sure man... Real subtle.
>>15634827
>What do you love about Zeta Gundam?
Yas' character designs and some mecha designs. The transformable Gundams are shit though.
>>15643832
>The transformable Gundams are shit though.
Fuck you, Char.
I'm actually enjoying Zeta a lot more as I rewatch it on Youtube. Subs are less confusing here so that's probably why.
>>15643825
Yes, we all know how to meme up plot elements to make them sound as silly as possible.
