Zeta was well written anime that didnt have to rely on moe females doing quirky things, like all anime today does.

The mecha design was great as well, probably the best mecha designs of any Gundam series.

It gave us the Baund Doc, the most elegant of mobile suits. And the Psyco Gundams, Barzam, Marasai, Hyaku-Shiki, Rick Dias... I think most of my favorite ms' are from Zeta.

I dug all of it! But one unsung hero (pun completely intended) was the score by Shigeaki Saegusa. So much so that I paid more than I should to get import soundtracks for his Gundam osts. (Minus zz... screw that 80's synth crap!)

i finished it a while ago too, and while i agree with all of what you said, i couldn't help but feel like so much of the plot was just arbitrary. So much seemed to happen for no good reason at all.

While I really want to say Zeta is my favorite /m/-core series it did have some slow parts and was initially a bit hard to get into.
Episodes 46-49 were godtier and episode 50 threw me for a loop; at first I was just apathetic to it but after a bit I saw its brilliance.
ZZ is way fucking different (but still very enjoyable) from the get-go, I can't believe its still Tomino directing it.

I see this by people who praise the show but never see anything to make me agree or see their point. Especially when it comes to characters. Characters who go back and fourth in development. I didn't find Fa and Kamile going through the same bs episode after episode, or Katz learning a lesson about fucking up and then doing, the same thing with Fa. I didn't care about Kamille going from crush to crush depending on the episode and his newtype thing with Four. I don't find characters being unreasonable interesting because it's realistic not when most of them act like that.

The mech design in this show is top notch though.

How are the Zeta remasters? Are they significantly better than the DVD releases? I had a look at the Gundam.Info youtube versions, the OP looks fucking amazing but it looks like they didn't put the same effort into the actual episodes, they're still somewhat blurry. Is it all like that? What are the blurays like?

It nails down the Space opera element perfectly which is why it's the best Gundam series. There is nothing deep, insightful or interesting about it, it's a melodrama in space.
